Chapter 1

I JUST WANNA SHINE LIKE THE SUN WHEN IT COMES UP. RUN THE CITY FROM THE ROOFTOPS. CAUSE TODAY'S GONNA BE MY DAY...

It was a fair weather in July. Gwyneth is sitting by the window nook in her room and quietly sipping on her morning coffee when her phone rang. Yes, it's that song by Fitz and The Tantrums. She just loved the lyrics from the first time she heard it and can't seem to get enough of it thus, she assigned it as her ring tone.

I JUST WANNA CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAINS STANDING TAL WHEN I'M HOWLING...

Her phone is still ringing so she decided to pick it up.

"Hello?"

"Gwen! Thank God." It was Mary, her classmate in college. "What's up?" replied Gwyneth as she took another sip of coffee. " Girl, you have to help me out!" cried Mary. " What happened to you? Did you get in trouble or something?" Her statement is clearly laced with concern. Grinning, Mary replied " It's actually more like or something, "

"Spit it out." Her coffee is already getting cold so Gwen is getting a little impatient to keep up with the conversation. "Relax, lady. What's with the tone?" Mary teased her even more.

"Mary! You freak! I'm hanging up now." Gwyneth thought she couldn't be bothered by her friend's antics anymore. "Don't! Sorry. Geez, you're being hot-headed again. Are you maybe on your period?"

"That's it!" But before she's able to press the end call button, she heard Mary gave up "Okay, okay. I'm telling already."

"Well?" Gwen compelled.

"Well, you see I'm quitting my job at Holy Trinity Academy."

"What?! Have you gone nuts?" exclaimed Gwen.

"Ouch? Hear me out, alright?" Mary beseeched. National University is offering me a teaching position in their college department. And everything goes along with my terms. So yeah, I'm more than willing to accept their proposition."

"Really? It's a no-brainer I see. Congrats!" Gwen gladly acknowledges Mary. " But what about your students at Holy Trinity? Are you really leaving them? I thought you said you have already created a bond with them." she continued.

Mary is silent for a while before answering in a low voice, " I have made up my mind. I can't possibly let such a good opportunity go, right?"

"I know. And I couldn't be happier for you, girl. Now what it's got to do with me?" Gwyneth queried.

"The Board of Trustees is not letting me go unless I secure a replacement for them." Mary responded in low spirit. " Mary, you're not asking me to take your place, are you?" Gwyneth finally realizes her friend's intention.

"Hehe. That's exactly what I'm trying to do. What do you think?"

Now it's Gwen's turn to go quiet. In a soft voice she answered, " I don't know. "

Mary is well aware about the reason of her friend's reservations. After being rejected from several schools in the last three months, Gwen was devastated and had lost her confidence. She dared not to look for job anymore. She is even considering a different career path after the said letdown.
