Chapter 7

Sleeping peacefully in her bed, Gwyneth was cradling a pillow to her chest. The sun was beaming through her blinds causing the woman to stir. Usually, waking up was a simple task to Gwyneth. She is a morning person after all. She groaned when the first beam of sunlight hit her face. Picking up the alarm clock on her nightstand, Gwyneth looked at the time.

"Ugh, why is it so early?" she placed the clock back on the surface and slowly began to sit up. She put her hand to her head which was throbbing. " Nothing a little Aspirin can't handle."

Crawling out of her warm bed, she walked to her bathroom and took out two pills, pouring tap water into her rinse cup. Once she took her medicine, she jumped into a warm shower. It was very pleasant to feel the drops of water fell on every part of her body, and the fragrance of the fabulous shower gel that is made of unique flowers filled the bathroom which made her clear her thoughts while she was thinking about how she's going to spend the rest of her day.

After taking the shower, she brushed her long wavy hair with a wooden hairbrush and then leave it to dry naturally. She went to her closet and chose a comfortable outfit -- a faded jeans and a white blouse. As she was checking herself out on the full-length mirror, her phone vibrated. She gave her reflection one final look. Satisfied, she picked up her phone. It was her brother Gordon calling. 'What does he want now?'

"Good morning, little girl."

"Morning, bro. What's up?" she walks towards the window nook and sat on the most comfortable position she can afford.

"Well, nothing much. Just checking up on my baby sister that's all."

"Oh," Gwyneth chuckled. "So you've heard."

"Hmm, he's not worth it. I want you to find a man who will treat you how you deserve to be treated. Find someone who is worth your time."

"I will, just now isn't the right time. Don't you think?"

"You'll know when you're ready. Anyway, I just wanted to see how you are. I have to get to work. Gwen, please keep in touch."

"Okay." Gwyneth hung up her phone and intended to leave the bedroom to fix herself a cup of coffee.

"Big brother not happy about the split, huh?" Gwyneth jumped in her seat.

"Shit... you nearly gave me a heart attack." Ashlyn laughed as she handed Gwyneth a warm mug of coffee. " Aww, thank you. Did I wake you?"

Ashlyn is her housemate. When she quit her job a year ago, she decided to share her apartment with another girl in order to save money.

"No. Mr. Santos next door was doing his daily 'I'm going to watch television at full volume' thing. " Gwyneth laughed. "That's pretty annoying. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. There is nothing worse than waking up to Claire Celdran's voice. The man blasts CNN more than Bloomberg does.

Gwyneth snorted causing Ashlyn to smile. Gwyneth took a sip of her coffee before responding, "Anyway, my brother is perfectly fine with it. He knows I'm happy and I'll find someone worth my time."

"That's good. You deserve better than that." Gwyneth nodded in agreement while drinking her coffee. " So since you're up, wanna get some breakfast? There's a newly open diner not far away from here." Ashlyn suggested. But before Gwyneth could answer, her phone rang. The ID says it's Holy Trinity Academy.

"I have to get this." Gwyneth cast Ashlyn a sorry look. The latter winked and gestured an OK sign before closing the door.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Miss Sarmiento. Where are you?"

Perplexed, Gwyneth answered "Well, I'm at home Sister Divina. Is there something the matter?"

"What do you mean by that? Don't you know you have classes this morning?" Sister Divina is agitated.

"Well, no. I'm confused. When did I get hired?"

"You mean nobody informed you?" Sister Divina turned even more frantic.

" Yes. I mean no, ma'am. I didn't receive any call from your end."

"I see." Sister Divina is back to her calm demeanor. "Well, I'm telling you now Miss Sarmiento. You are hired, and I expect you to report for work this afternoon. "

"Well thank you, Sister. I'm thrilled to get started. I'll see you this afternoon." Gwyneth is over the moon.

'Finally, this is it! Indeed, when a door closes a window opens.'
