Chapter 3

Author: Buffay
Vincent was threatening me. For a moment, I thought I misheard him.

However, that was the truth. Right now, Vincent was just standing there with a stony expression while spitting out words that easily tore through my heart like blades.

I dug my nails into my palms tightly in order to force myself to calm down. However, my quivering lips betrayed me.

I said, "You want to terminate our packs' alliance? Go ahead, but don't forget that your pack is the one that asked for the alliance in the first place.

"As the offending pack that has terminated the contract, you'll have to pay 300 million dollars to my pack. Are you sure that the Brownstone pack is willing to terminate the alliance with the Moonlake pack and pay me 300 million dollars just because you said so?"

Vincent was obviously agitated after hearing my words. He could only gnash his teeth in response. He wasn't the one who had the ultimate authority in the Brownstone pack, after all.

The only reason the Brownstone pack could last this long was all thanks to the Darkblaze pack's protection. As for the Alpha of the Darkblaze pack, he was Benjamin Sawyer, Vincent's uncle.

If not for the fact that I had been using the Moonlake pack's resources to help Vincent, the latter would've remained as one of the many successors whose significance is equal to zero.

Vincent thought I'd yield to him and continue to play my role as a kind-hearted and loyal fiancee, just like how I had done in the past. However, my love for him had already dissipated. I would never compromise for his sake ever again.

Seeing that the situation was starting to get out of control, Sharon decided to plaster a smile on her face and act as the peacemaker.

"Don't be mad now, Angelica."

She took my hand as though we were best friends, but I didn't hesitate to shake her hand off mine.

Tears began to bead within Sharon's eyes. She started fake-crying in front of everyone.

"I'm sorry, alright? Don't get mad at me, please… You should continue the bonding ceremony with Vincent… If you really are that angry at me, then… then you can just slap me, okay? Just let it all out!"

Even though Sharon was apologizing to me, she still shot me a provocative look when she got close to me. She wanted me to lose my temper so that she could play the role of a victim again.

Naturally, I wouldn't do what she wanted me to do.

"Alright, then. Come here," I replied softly. "Let me slap you."

Everyone gasped audibly after hearing my reply.

Sharon's expression went stiff. She didn't expect that I'd agree to slap her.

Meanwhile, Vincent quickly stepped in front of Sharon, being the pretentious white knight that he was.

"That's enough! What makes you think you have the right to slap Sharon?"

I just laughed in response, though a phantom pain began to flare in my chest.

"How about the fact that she took my ring or the fact that she screwed up the bonding ceremony that I've spent one year preparing? Aren't those reasons enough for me to slap her?

"Could it be that you were the one who gave the ring to her, Vincent? Are you planning on bonding with Sharon from the start? If that's the case, then there's absolutely no reason why this ceremony has to go on!"

Vincent's expression became extremely dark at that moment.

"You just have to screw this ceremony over, do you?"

He grabbed Sharon's hand before lifting it. "The truth is, I've already booked a honeymoon trip to the beach. Since you don't cherish this opportunity, I might as well take Sharon with me on the trip."

Vincent was very sure that I'd panic and beg for him to take me instead. He thought I'd keep pursuing him like the lovesick fool I once was. After all, I had done those things in the past.

However, everything between us was over now.

When I lowered my gaze and didn't respond to Vincent, his expression finally faltered. He dragged Sharon out of the venue, leaving me all alone under the fragmented light.

As for Vincent's parents, they left the venue out of displeasure. Their friends and family did the same thing as well.

The remaining guests remained quiet, though I could sense their scrutiny in the silence.

Nancy walked over to me, her voice quivering as she asked, "Do you want me to announce the cancellation of the bonding ceremony, Angelica?"

I sighed quietly. "I've spent so much effort organizing this ceremony. Why should I cancel it? If Vincent doesn't want to become my mate, I'll ask someone else to fill in that position."

Then, I dug out my phone and dialed a number. Soon, a drunken baritone that carried a seductive, husky lilt drifted from the other end of the line.

"Angelica? Am I dreaming? Aren't you in your bonding ceremony right now? How are you able to call me at this time?"

I did my best to suppress the rasp in my voice. After all, I didn't want him to find out that I had cried earlier.

"Vincent has gone on a honeymoon trip with his beloved childhood sweetheart, but I don't want to let the bonding ceremony go to waste.

"I'm so sorry for disturbing you at this time. Right now, I'm lacking a groom for the ceremony. Will you—"

Before I could finish my sentence, the voice interrupted me giddily, "I do! Give me ten minutes! Don't go anywhere, my princess! I'll be right there!"

A commotion broke out instantly. Everyone just stared at me, clearly shell-shocked. Even Nancy revealed a stunned expression.

Ignoring their looks, I reminded the werewolf calmly, "Alright. Take care of yourself on your way here. Don't drink and drive."

When Vincent saw Benjamin, he widened his eyes in astonishment. He even took two steps backward out of disbelief. Then, he began chortling in amusement."That's enough, Uncle Benjamin. Don't joke around. Everyone knows you don't like she-wolves at all. For the past 29 years, you never had a she-wolf by your side. How is it possible for you to become Angelica's mate?"His words left me feeling surprised. I could only turn to stare at Benjamin in shock. However, the latter just gazed at me tenderly."Of course. That's because I'm in love with Angelica this whole time. You're the blind one for abandoning her at the venue of the bonding ceremony. I've waited 29 years, and I finally got my hands on this golden opportunity to be with her."Speaking of which, I must thank you, Vincent. It's all thanks to your stupidity that I get to be with the she-wolf I love. I no longer have to live the rest of my life in loneliness."Obviously, Vincent didn't believe him."That's enough, Uncle Benja

Angelica's POVWith Benjamin's fingers lacing with mine firmly, we stood on the podium of the bonding ceremony once again. Everyone applauded loudly while giving us their blessings. The officiating elder began reciting the bonding vows for us once again.I didn't expect that Benjamin would make so many preparations for me. It had been barely an hour since I last called him, yet the venue of the bonding ceremony had gone through a complete makeover thanks to his staff. The fences and the beautiful arch woven of red roses were back. The red carpet that was etched with intricate patterns covered the floor. Even the bouquet that I held was crafted of pure gold.To sum it all up, this ceremony was perfect. The guests whom Benjamin had invited to the ceremony were all here as well. Everyone kept cheering and shouting their well-wishes to us.After the officiating elder was done with the vows, Benjamin sank to one knee before me once again. This time, he recited his own vows to me."I

Vincent's POVAngelica's words enraged me to no end. She claimed that her new mate was an Alpha who was stronger than me!So, that meant she was displeased by the fact that I had yet to inherit my pack as the new Alpha.Everyone around me either openly mocked me or kept dropping hints at me that Angelica was the only reason why I got everything I wanted today. Only when I was able to force Angelica to yield to me repeatedly did those werewolves begrudgingly admit that I was very capable.Of course, I was extremely pleased to hear that. I enjoyed the feeling of watching a powerful she-wolf like Angelica surrender to me.However, during our bonding ceremony, Angelica actually had the guts to talk back to me! That was why I wanted to teach her a lesson by taking Sharon on a trip with me.Who would've thought that my friend would text me about Angelica finding herself a new mate? He even included a photo in the text!It was a photo of the new mate, though his back was turned to the

I turned around and made a grand announcement before the guests and the officiating elder."Everyone, the bonding ceremony shall go on. My new mate will be here soon. Please wait for a short while."I had always been a very opinionated she-wolf. My mom had passed away when I was but a pup, and my dad didn't want to find himself a new mate since then. So, I gradually took on the responsibilities and power that belonged to the Luna.As such, I became one of the most authoritative she-wolves in the Moonlake pack. If I were a cowardly she-wolf without any opinion of my own, my pack would've gotten snatched up by other werewolves a long time ago.As for Vincent, the only werewolf whom I had sacrificed myself for in the past, I had already kicked him out of my life. The guests began muttering among themselves once again. Those who originally intended to leave the venue decided to stay in the end. They were all curious as to who my new mate would be."Do you think the new mate is as cap

As I watched the flicker of smugness crossing Sharon's eyes, I finally understood why she had kept to herself today. In the past, whenever Vincent and I went out on dates, Sharon would insist on joining us. Today, she intended to ruin my bonding ceremony, too.I did my best to suppress a choked sob before I questioned her seriously, "Sharon, I just want to know that if someone swaps your ring out for trash during your bonding ceremony, will you still think of it as a joke?"Sharon just pouted while blinking at me innocently."I grew up with Vincent since we were pups. Whenever I climbed onto his bed teasingly, he never got mad at me. Angelica, I only pulled off this stunt because I viewed you as a friend of mine. I never thought you'd be this sensitive toward jokes!"Sensitive, she said.Fine."Well then, please return the moonstone ring to the ol' sensitive me, then," I stated.Sharon rolled her eyes at me. Then, she began tugging at the ring on her finger. However, after twi
