Alpha Jake's POV

I pulled out my sword and froze as I realized the look on Nicholas' face.

"She's just a mistress, one of your mistresses. I don't expect you to be disturbed like this," I managed to say without looking into his eyes.

"Noelle is not just a mistress." Nicholas' rage was so hot that I could feel it even without standing close to him.

"She is your adviser, I remember." I tried to pacify him but I expected him to understand. "My hands are tied. If she's found guilty, I will have no choice." Knowing that he wouldn't be very happy with that, I moved farther.

"Every sensible soul knows that she was framed for this murder. Everything was too accurate." He moved closer to me and I felt somehow suppressed.

"We can only act on what is proved, to maintain justice. Alpha Nicholas, you are a high-ranking Alpha, you understand this more than I do." I put my sword back in its sheath. It seemed like there wasn't going to be any training today.
