-ANNA-

In the early ages, Alphas didn't have the right to dismiss their Lunas. The moon goddess had made it a rule, for she never made mistakes. At some point some sides didn't believe in the moon goddess's rule and decided to be promiscuous, adding another wolf to their mating circle.

They were to be punished really badly, but after numerous pleas, the rules were adjusted. A divorce or rejection could enable you to cut off your mate, but there was a disadvantage beneath it. If one of the partners is forced off and he or she seeks revenge, a rite of passage known as the kiss of vengeance must be held.

The kiss of vengeance acts as a guilt trigger. Every layer of memory that could have been hidden or forgotten comes back to haunt you, and you find yourself regretting ever leaving. These memories haunt him till he kills himself or leaves the throne. But a strong Alpha would need one on the lips or ten on the hand to bring him down.

With Jake giving me one, I knew he would be able to remember the days so faintly after I left. The probability of getting ten kisses on my hand was low, but getting him to suffer and wither till I could get the final kiss would make it all worth it.

… Nicholas and Jake moved into the meeting chamber, leaving me all alone with Linda. She kept staring at me, observing my curves like she was amazed by them. After a while she moved closer, probably to seek out my scent.

"How can I help you?" I stopped her before she could close the gap between us.

She giggled a bit. "Just thought you had a familiar scent, but I must have been mistaken."

I motioned towards her slowly and gently. Just as expected, she couldn't keep eye contact, her hands trembling like never before. Was she frightened? Did she already realize the difference in strength between us both?

"Mommy." A child's voice filled the atmosphere.

A small darling walked in, with feeble legs and hands, a cute face, and that face that I recognized in my dreams. She was James's exact copy, and she also had that attitude of folding her hands and looking so stern when she was pissed.

So it's been that long.

Linda took the little girl in her hands, cuddling the girl whose stern expression turned soft and joy-filled in an instant. After cuddling the girl for some minutes, she brought her daughter close to me. "Would you mind helping me?" She held out her daughter.

For a minute those cute eyes got to me, but when I tried to lift my arm, it went numb. The silence was enough to tell her that I couldn't, so she handed the child over to the maid and flashed me a fake smile.

"Noelle." Nicholas appeared before me, his hands grabbing mine as he closed in for a hug. I opened my arm, letting his mouthpiece fall next to my ears. "I hope you didn't get caught?"

I nodded, and he relaxed a bit. Even though I had changed my facials, he warned about my lingering scent, as the bloodline of Alphas reeked the most when they were out of their territory or raging. We laughed it all off so it would look like we were all in love.

Jake was staring at us, a smirk on his face and his thoughts well hidden. He had severed the kind link between us a year after we mated, and I have been wondering ever since. Even though I knew him like the back of my hand, I wanted him to look at Noelle and watch his life crumble to smithereens.

"How about a meal to enjoy this meeting?" He led us to the dining hall.

I tried my best not to get ahead so I wouldn't have to be found out, and unconsciously I held onto Nicholas, whose aura kept suppressing mine. Both of them had a silent but intense conversation with their eyes before the maids saved the day with meals.

"Where are your wife and child, Alpha Jake?" Nicholas asked.

Jake chuckled a bit before searching the room with his eyes. "My child, Lydia, should be with her mother. They'll join us soon." He snapped his hand, indicating to the maid before us to go call her out.

"So, Alpha Jake, what's the story behind your ex-mate?" I said unconsciously.

He adjusted into his chair, his arms folded with a smirk on his face. I kept my eyes fixed on him, awaiting the answer to my question. "My ex-mate had a fragile body, and the doctors advised us not to have a child till she was sure she could handle it. We thought it was a lie at first, but she had several miscarriages, and during our last trial a year ago, she lost her life in the tragedy of miscarriages." His words were filled with melancholy.

So he tells people that I was killed by a miscarriage. So pathetic.

"Is that so?" My voice was soft and unsteady. "From the stories I was told, she seemed to be a very kind Luna. I believe the moon goddess will provide her with a nice abode in the afterlife."

He said nothing, forcing a smile.

Underneath the table, Nicholas's hand was trailing down my lap, with silent whispers in my ears: "Remember our agreement, Noelle." I took a deep breath, adjusting to a more comfortable position.

"My Lord!" The maid rushed in, blood on her hands.

Jake headed out almost immediately. He tried to hide the fear that lingered, but his widened eyes and hushed breath made him lose it. Nicholas and I walked in minutes later, seeing the sight of a bleeding Linda in Jake's hand staring right at us.

I should have felt pity, I should have rushed over to help, but instead, I let out a smile. This was just the beginning of the kiss of vengeance.

Alpha Nicholas Shafter's POV Darkness. That was all I saw. I found myself in an endless void where no wind stirred, there were no stars, and there was also no sound, not even echoes. The only thing I heard was the slow pounding of my own heart. This was not the first time I would be here. In fact, I felt like I spent most of my lifetime, drifting in this dark abyss. Sitting down with my knees pulled closer to my chest and my arms wrapped around myself as if I wanted to protect my body from the emptiness. My lips kept trembling as I whispered into the dark. "Why me?" My own voice came back to me and I quickly gulped. "Why was I born only to suffer? Why do I keep coming back here?" My eyes closed and the memories came back. I was the unwanted child, the son of the Alpha who was not wanted by his father. I was the illegitimate prince of the Shafter Pack and I was born into the palace not as a son but as a servant, an omega. My father’s concubines always looked at me with di

Anna's POV Everything I had gone through started flowing back into my head. Starting from what I went through in Linda's and Alpha Jake's hands. I was supposed to have a happy ending not one to get destroyed by Alice and the invincible army created by her uncle, James. Even when I became the Alpha, all the sacrifices I made for the pack, my father's legacy. I had to kill this man to make sure all that were not wasted. No matter how hard this proved to be, I must see it to the end. It was just like a second chance for me. "I only wanted to save myself and the people of my time," I whispered to myself. My hands trembled as I looked at him. "Just to make sure that Alice won't have the invincible army before I leave this world." My eyes narrowed. The words in my mind sharpened into a vow and it encouraged me. "I can't let you live, Alpha Nicholas Shafter." I pulled out a dagger and raised it up with my fingers stiffened around the hilt. Slowly, I stepped forward with the aim of

Anna's POV Before she could realize what was happening, I slammed a sharp strike into the side of her neck and her eyes bulged instantly while she exhaled a strangled gasp. I brought up my low voice after a dry chuckle. "Didn't you say you are the best in the pack. If you, the best is like this, how will the worst be."? Immediately, Wendy collapsed and her body hit the ground with a thud. Her eyes were still wide open in disbelief but the twinkle in her eyes had vanished. I dusted off imaginary sand away from my sleeve and walked off without sparing him another glance. I followed Wendy's direction and found myself at Alpha Nicholas' Fort. Torches glowed faintly against the night with long shadows against the stone walls. A handful of guards were patrolling the gate while their armor kept clinking softly. "Your Highness!" They stopped and bowed politely with respect as they caught a hold of my sight. I did not respond but my expression was a mask of cold determination. I cont

Anna's POV I quickly remembered everything Sturbridge told me about the man I came here to kill. He was the most powerful back in his time; no one could match his power, and he was literally not killable. The only way I could kill him was to get to him before he became a celestial demon. He didn't become a celestial demon until he got me, his wife, pregnant. So I had to kill him now before he would get me pregnant, easy peasy. On the other hand, for some reason that I didn't know, Wendy kept shivering violently beside me. She didn't seem cold but her bones kept rattling as if frost had pierced into her marrow. It seemed like she was suspecting that something must have awakened in me. She turned her head away as her breath kept hitching. My stern eyes bore into her with sharpness as if I had a killing intent so deep, like I wanted to claw at her soul. "Hey, Wendy!" I said with a thin and dangerous smile. "How do I get back to my residence? How do I get back to my husband?" We

Anna's POV My breath felt like it was caught and squeezed by a giant invisible hand while my chest constricted. Out of all the cursed names and all the cursed places, Shafter Pack was the only one I wouldn't wish anyone to get associated with. My father used to tell me about them, how powerful, brutal, and merciless they were. Their power and brutality were so bad that all the other packs came together to annihilate them before my time. Sturbridge's words were also clear and simple. The only way to defeat Alice was to go back to the past to kill Margaretta's mother's ex-husband within his pack territory. And that pack was none other than the Shafter Pack. Sharp chills swept over my spine and I felt as if ice was cutting into my marrow. My gaze snapped back to Wendy in despair. "Tell me his name," I demanded. Wendy blinked as if she was confused by the intensity of my tone. "His name, my Lady?" "Yes!" my voice cracked as it had become raw with fear while my heart thundered in

Anna's POV Despite being an unexpected piece of information, I did not linger on it. I still had plenty of time to know about this world and the woman who owned this body that I had just taken over. For now, I should be focused on finding her particular husband and how to get the power to kill him. I sat down cross-legged with my breath steady and my hands formed into a triangular shape. My current goal was clear and that was to forge a spiritual root in this body so that I could absorb some of my powers from my timeline. I could sense that her frame was fragile compared to my trained Alpha body, but it was still adaptable. Just as fragile bodies could react fast when they drink poison or hurt themselves and go through grueling hardship, fragile bodies could also be coaxed easily and reshaped to fit the desired needs. That was something I learnt from Nicholas. I just had to guide it into readiness. Now, it was time to start building it for transformation. I closed my eyes and dr
