-ANNA-

In the early ages, Alphas didn't have the right to dismiss their Lunas. The moon goddess had made it a rule, for she never made mistakes. At some point some sides didn't believe in the moon goddess's rule and decided to be promiscuous, adding another wolf to their mating circle.

They were to be punished really badly, but after numerous pleas, the rules were adjusted. A divorce or rejection could enable you to cut off your mate, but there was a disadvantage beneath it. If one of the partners is forced off and he or she seeks revenge, a rite of passage known as the kiss of vengeance must be held.

The kiss of vengeance acts as a guilt trigger. Every layer of memory that could have been hidden or forgotten comes back to haunt you, and you find yourself regretting ever leaving. These memories haunt him till he kills himself or leaves the throne. But a strong Alpha would need one on the lips or ten on the hand to bring him down.

With Jake giving me one, I knew he would be able to remember the days so faintly after I left. The probability of getting ten kisses on my hand was low, but getting him to suffer and wither till I could get the final kiss would make it all worth it.

… Nicholas and Jake moved into the meeting chamber, leaving me all alone with Linda. She kept staring at me, observing my curves like she was amazed by them. After a while she moved closer, probably to seek out my scent.

"How can I help you?" I stopped her before she could close the gap between us.

She giggled a bit. "Just thought you had a familiar scent, but I must have been mistaken."

I motioned towards her slowly and gently. Just as expected, she couldn't keep eye contact, her hands trembling like never before. Was she frightened? Did she already realize the difference in strength between us both?

"Mommy." A child's voice filled the atmosphere.

A small darling walked in, with feeble legs and hands, a cute face, and that face that I recognized in my dreams. She was James's exact copy, and she also had that attitude of folding her hands and looking so stern when she was pissed.

So it's been that long.

Linda took the little girl in her hands, cuddling the girl whose stern expression turned soft and joy-filled in an instant. After cuddling the girl for some minutes, she brought her daughter close to me. "Would you mind helping me?" She held out her daughter.

For a minute those cute eyes got to me, but when I tried to lift my arm, it went numb. The silence was enough to tell her that I couldn't, so she handed the child over to the maid and flashed me a fake smile.

"Noelle." Nicholas appeared before me, his hands grabbing mine as he closed in for a hug. I opened my arm, letting his mouthpiece fall next to my ears. "I hope you didn't get caught?"

I nodded, and he relaxed a bit. Even though I had changed my facials, he warned about my lingering scent, as the bloodline of Alphas reeked the most when they were out of their territory or raging. We laughed it all off so it would look like we were all in love.

Jake was staring at us, a smirk on his face and his thoughts well hidden. He had severed the kind link between us a year after we mated, and I have been wondering ever since. Even though I knew him like the back of my hand, I wanted him to look at Noelle and watch his life crumble to smithereens.

"How about a meal to enjoy this meeting?" He led us to the dining hall.

I tried my best not to get ahead so I wouldn't have to be found out, and unconsciously I held onto Nicholas, whose aura kept suppressing mine. Both of them had a silent but intense conversation with their eyes before the maids saved the day with meals.

"Where are your wife and child, Alpha Jake?" Nicholas asked.

Jake chuckled a bit before searching the room with his eyes. "My child, Lydia, should be with her mother. They'll join us soon." He snapped his hand, indicating to the maid before us to go call her out.

"So, Alpha Jake, what's the story behind your ex-mate?" I said unconsciously.

He adjusted into his chair, his arms folded with a smirk on his face. I kept my eyes fixed on him, awaiting the answer to my question. "My ex-mate had a fragile body, and the doctors advised us not to have a child till she was sure she could handle it. We thought it was a lie at first, but she had several miscarriages, and during our last trial a year ago, she lost her life in the tragedy of miscarriages." His words were filled with melancholy.

So he tells people that I was killed by a miscarriage. So pathetic.

"Is that so?" My voice was soft and unsteady. "From the stories I was told, she seemed to be a very kind Luna. I believe the moon goddess will provide her with a nice abode in the afterlife."

He said nothing, forcing a smile.

Underneath the table, Nicholas's hand was trailing down my lap, with silent whispers in my ears: "Remember our agreement, Noelle." I took a deep breath, adjusting to a more comfortable position.

"My Lord!" The maid rushed in, blood on her hands.

Jake headed out almost immediately. He tried to hide the fear that lingered, but his widened eyes and hushed breath made him lose it. Nicholas and I walked in minutes later, seeing the sight of a bleeding Linda in Jake's hand staring right at us.

I should have felt pity, I should have rushed over to help, but instead, I let out a smile. This was just the beginning of the kiss of vengeance.

Anna's POV As I was rushing to the basement, Nicholas came after me, calling my name aloud, to stop me. "He obviously did this, why don't you know that?" I stopped briefly but my anger couldn't let me wait. "Let me just see him first!" I snapped and continued my journey to the basement. "It's not him." Nicholas pulled my hand from behind but I wasn't ready to listen to him. "Who else could have done that? That tranquilizer was his trademark!" I pulled the trapdoor up and climbed down the stairs into the basement. James was there, breathing heavily as he had become worn out. "Please, give me some water, Lady Noelle!" he begged as his gaze landed on me. I was shocked for a while, seeing the state he was in. "You did this, didn't you?" I asked and rushed at him. "Did what? Just give me water, please!" he refused to answer my question and I dealt him a slap across his annoying face. "If it's not you, then who is it?" I yelled at him. Nicholas pulled me back and walked me out

Anna's POV "No, no. That has nothing to do with this. It's a personal secret, you don't have to say it out!" York was still shaking and I noticed that he was stealing glances at me. "My plan is also personal, why are you forcing me to let it out?" James shamefully admitted with a nonchalant attitude. "What's your secret, York? I think everyone at this point, needs to start spitting it out before we can continue." I pretended as if I was trying to help them resolve their issues but I was mocking them and enjoying it. "What's the secret, brother? We are here all this while talking about uncle James betrayal not knowing that you also have hidden intentions!" Alice also snapped and confronted York. "Alice, don't let him confuse you. This has nothing to do with what we are doing here. Won't you have known if it's related to it?" York was still scared. "York, you are funny." James shook his head and made a sarcastic face. "This is about Noelle and you say it has nothing to do with w

Anna's POV As I sat at the table with them, I kept staring at the three with disdain but I made sure they saw a smile whenever they looked at me. I wasn't sure whether the hatred I had just grown for them had something to do with the potion Sturbridge forced down my throat or not, but I loved it. "Why are we stalling time again? All parties has agreed already, can someone tell me why we are still sitting at this table when we should be at the tomb?" James suddenly burst out, speaking exactly the same thing I had in my mind. "Are you not the one delaying us?" I was already tired of sitting down and looking at their faces. "What? Don't tell me we are just wasting time sitting here, let's get out of here!" James stood up immediately and I quickly followed suit. "We actually have a message to share!" York spoke with a gentle voice. "A message that has something to do with this?" I asked, making my disinterest obvious on my face. "Yes!" Alice roared, her eyes closed with her eye

James POV I had been waiting for Lady Noelle to arrive since hours ago but she didn't show up. Though I honestly didn't want the possession session to be successful because I had another plan different from York's and Alice's. Suddenly, someone banged on the door angrily. Without seeing who it was, I was sure it wasn't Lady Noelle but I still found it hard to get who it was. Before I could get out of my deep thoughts, the door was forcefully pushed open. And he walked in, looking around with arrogance and impatience. "What do you want, Nicholas?" I asked forcing myself to be calm. "I don't just know why she keeps thinking there's a good side of you. You are just another devil called James." He made his words intense to show how angry he was. "Funny you! You are talking to your uncle James, you realize that, right? You always say I am one of the best to be in this realm. Don't you need to check yourself?" I mocked him with a glare. "I didn't know. Whenever you try to show me

Anna's POV Even after Sturbridge and Nicholas had told me about Carrick and Long's dark secrets and their intentions to oust me, I didn't change my mind. The next morning, I commenced my journey to the demon lair without any guard as always. As I was about to get out of the border, my mind became filled with thoughts about Sturbridge. I thought I would meet him standing at the border singing my support like last time but he wasn't there. As I was not going there to fight this time, I wasn't worried. I would just go and get back in no time. I had ridden far from my territory when I started hearing heavy galloping behind me. Stopping to check it out, I saw two riders coming towards me and they were clearly men. "That must be Nicholas and Sturbridge!" I muttered to myself. They couldn't leave me by myself as they were the only families I had left. I waited for them to get to me. Despite seeing that I had stopped, they didn't reduce their speed, they even increased it. "Who are

Anna's POV After I had arrived at my pack territory, I sent words to the seven elders of the major Forts of Flaming Pack but only three of them showed up and they arrived before it was up to an hour. All I wanted was peace by reaching a midpoint with the demon family. I had already agreed to go with their plan of allowing Margaretta to possess me once in a week. But to finalize it, I believed that the seven elders of the major Forts of Flaming Pack must know about it. "Just once a week?" Carrick, the oldest lord among the elders, asked, but I couldn't say if he was serious or being sarcastic. "Yes." I nodded. "What do you mean by that? Why are you asking that question? Does it mean you have already accepted? Have you ever thought about the negative effects that could have?" Hanford, another elder queried. His face was so strict and I could already see that he was never going to accept being a part of this. "This is a simple issue, Hanford. We don't have much to say to it, Alph
