-ANNA-

The beeping of the monitor rang in my ear. My eyes slowly open, the lingering scent of incense blending into my nose. I tried to stand, but my body ached, my hands were burning, and my tummy felt hotter than fire. I groaned as I tried to sit back, taking the pain in as I tried to check myself out.

I was all bandaged up. My body, which was once filled with fat, had undergone a drastic change. I had become moderate and slender, like I was a new soul entirely.

"You shouldn't try to get up—well, not yet." A masculine voice echoed in the room.

The scent of sandalwood with a touch of tobacco wafted through my nose. I could swear the incense had gone out at that moment. My whole body tingled as he approached, the danger signals increasing with each step. Suddenly, I felt something choking me. It was his sinister aura, so bland and cruel, like that of a wolf who had murdered countless warriors.

I felt suppressed by his aura, my heart thumping with fear. After a few more steps I could see him, that perfect jawline, that handsome face, that icy gaze that could make any woman weak in the knees, and those piercings with diamond rings on both ears. He was definitely the bad boy my mother warned me about.

He grabbed a chair from behind, setting it by the side of my bed before adjusting into it. We stared at each other for a moment, gazes colliding like we were communicating with our sight. For a while, I didn't bother to ask myself the most important questions. What did he do to me? What happened after Jake clawed me out? Why was I sleeping in a bed so cozy and unable to move my limbs?

"You're lucky to have survived that intense surgery. Your baby was already dead, and you were going to die any moment. The operation was enough to get you and your baby back on your feet, and I must say, you've struggled a lot over the coming years, Anna." He rested on the chair, grabbing a pipe from the drawer next to him.

My eyes widened for a bit. The urge to question his authority is filling me up. "How do you know my name?"

He chuckled. It seemed like he was toying with my intelligence on purpose, and to top it all off, he didn't seem to give a single care in the world. That just made me more enraged. Even though he went through all the trouble to save me, I still had a life outside, a life where I was lo…

"There's no life for you outside these four walls." He exhaled, the scent of tobacco taking over the atmosphere. "He's still searching for you after six months of your death. He doesn't believe you died, but he can't undo what he already did, right? "

After I died? Am I in the afterlife? What did he mean by Jake didn't believe I died? That's all he's ever wanted so he could take control of the throne and watch me fall.

Love was never in his dictionary. I was just this girl that he could manipulate and take away all she's inherited for himself and that turkey he called his next Luna. If only I were stronger, I would have ripped her throat apart and made her eat her words. "He's dead to me."

He motioned towards me, his muscles tensed with a smirk on his face. I could feel something mysterious clouding his system, but for some reason, I didn't want to know what it was. He rose to his feet, taking a walk to the door and back to me. At first, I thought the tobacco had taken over, but he proved me wrong.

His voice was calm and wanting, like he was ready to save me from what I so feared. "Do you want your power and inheritance returned to you, Anna?" He asked.

My power and inheritance were restored to me. Becoming the first female Alpha who rules without a man beside her, she laid off anyone who tried to betray or attack the peace of the pack. It's been all I've ever wished for apart from Jake. But knowing Jake, he'd never give it up so easily, and I'd still be falling for his deep treachery like a little lamb.

"Jake is powerful; no one can touch him. Not even my father could scratch him during the rite of passage. What makes you think we could do him any harm or toss him off the throne just like that?" I inquired.

He burst into laughter. After a little while his face became stern and his eyes became darker. He adjusted into the chair with his index finger settling on my boobs. "You just have to say the word and watch your ex-husband fall into despair."

He was quite a big talker for a bad boy. If he thought he was some bad boy rider that could cause trouble or make Jake bow before him, then he was in the dark. I've seen this over and over again, people getting killed by ignorance, and also because of their confidence that they were above Jake.

"If I may ask, what's your name?" My curiosity finally got to me.

"The name is Nicholas Sleeze, but you can call me Nick." He flashed me a smile.

My body began to tremble when I finally realized who was sitting before me. He wasn't an ordinary bad boy, nor was he an alpha of a little pack who could get squashed. He happened to be the legendary Lycan king, the one they addressed as the million-year demon.

I tried to run, but my body kept me still, giving him an advantage as his sinister aura suppressed me. If he truly was the million-year demon, then I couldn't be here; I couldn't accept any form of help from him.

"I'll take that as a yes." He chuckled evilly. "And just so you know, you're not to be addressed as Anna anymore. Anna is dead along with the supposed heir of the Flaming Moon pack."

He placed his hand on my head, a smile on his face.

"From now on you'll go by the name Noelle."

Alpha Nicholas Shafter's POV The woman shook her head slowly. I asked again while catching my breath, "Then, am I going to finally die the real death this time?" To my shock, the shadow nodded again. My heart trembled. "Can you do it quickly or are you not the one to do it?" Again, the shadow nodded. Seeing that, my lips curved in joy and I felt relieved. For once, I neither cared about my life nor felt terrified. For once, I believed that my suffering would end. I lifted my hands up to welcome it. "Please, do it now." The woman moved closer with slow and deliberate steps. But just as she reached me, she looked twisted with her mouth lined with rows of jagged teeth. Her body stiffened with terror as she let her arms spread wide. "Why are you hesitating? Just do it." But before her teeth could touch me, a burst of light split the void, and another woman, older, stepped in to join us while her body glowed with power. "DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH MY SON!" Her voice shook the dark

Alpha Nicholas Shafter's POV Darkness. That was all I saw. I found myself in an endless void where no wind stirred, there were no stars, and there was also no sound, not even echoes. The only thing I heard was the slow pounding of my own heart. This was not the first time I would be here. In fact, I felt like I spent most of my lifetime, drifting in this dark abyss. Sitting down with my knees pulled closer to my chest and my arms wrapped around myself as if I wanted to protect my body from the emptiness. My lips kept trembling as I whispered into the dark. "Why me?" My own voice came back to me and I quickly gulped. "Why was I born only to suffer? Why do I keep coming back here?" My eyes closed and the memories came back. I was the unwanted child, the son of the Alpha who was not wanted by his father. I was the illegitimate prince of the Shafter Pack and I was born into the palace not as a son but as a servant, an omega. My father’s concubines always looked at me with di

Anna's POV Everything I had gone through started flowing back into my head. Starting from what I went through in Linda's and Alpha Jake's hands. I was supposed to have a happy ending not one to get destroyed by Alice and the invincible army created by her uncle, James. Even when I became the Alpha, all the sacrifices I made for the pack, my father's legacy. I had to kill this man to make sure all that were not wasted. No matter how hard this proved to be, I must see it to the end. It was just like a second chance for me. "I only wanted to save myself and the people of my time," I whispered to myself. My hands trembled as I looked at him. "Just to make sure that Alice won't have the invincible army before I leave this world." My eyes narrowed. The words in my mind sharpened into a vow and it encouraged me. "I can't let you live, Alpha Nicholas Shafter." I pulled out a dagger and raised it up with my fingers stiffened around the hilt. Slowly, I stepped forward with the aim of

Anna's POV Before she could realize what was happening, I slammed a sharp strike into the side of her neck and her eyes bulged instantly while she exhaled a strangled gasp. I brought up my low voice after a dry chuckle. "Didn't you say you are the best in the pack. If you, the best is like this, how will the worst be."? Immediately, Wendy collapsed and her body hit the ground with a thud. Her eyes were still wide open in disbelief but the twinkle in her eyes had vanished. I dusted off imaginary sand away from my sleeve and walked off without sparing him another glance. I followed Wendy's direction and found myself at Alpha Nicholas' Fort. Torches glowed faintly against the night with long shadows against the stone walls. A handful of guards were patrolling the gate while their armor kept clinking softly. "Your Highness!" They stopped and bowed politely with respect as they caught a hold of my sight. I did not respond but my expression was a mask of cold determination. I cont

Anna's POV I quickly remembered everything Sturbridge told me about the man I came here to kill. He was the most powerful back in his time; no one could match his power, and he was literally not killable. The only way I could kill him was to get to him before he became a celestial demon. He didn't become a celestial demon until he got me, his wife, pregnant. So I had to kill him now before he would get me pregnant, easy peasy. On the other hand, for some reason that I didn't know, Wendy kept shivering violently beside me. She didn't seem cold but her bones kept rattling as if frost had pierced into her marrow. It seemed like she was suspecting that something must have awakened in me. She turned her head away as her breath kept hitching. My stern eyes bore into her with sharpness as if I had a killing intent so deep, like I wanted to claw at her soul. "Hey, Wendy!" I said with a thin and dangerous smile. "How do I get back to my residence? How do I get back to my husband?" We

Anna's POV My breath felt like it was caught and squeezed by a giant invisible hand while my chest constricted. Out of all the cursed names and all the cursed places, Shafter Pack was the only one I wouldn't wish anyone to get associated with. My father used to tell me about them, how powerful, brutal, and merciless they were. Their power and brutality were so bad that all the other packs came together to annihilate them before my time. Sturbridge's words were also clear and simple. The only way to defeat Alice was to go back to the past to kill Margaretta's mother's ex-husband within his pack territory. And that pack was none other than the Shafter Pack. Sharp chills swept over my spine and I felt as if ice was cutting into my marrow. My gaze snapped back to Wendy in despair. "Tell me his name," I demanded. Wendy blinked as if she was confused by the intensity of my tone. "His name, my Lady?" "Yes!" my voice cracked as it had become raw with fear while my heart thundered in
