I was so excited to finally have my parents back home.

They had been away for almost a month—maybe even longer—and the house just hadn't felt the same without them.

The moment I stepped through the front door, I forgot about everything else.

"Dad!"

He looked up from the dining table just in time to see me running toward him.

He laughed, stood up, and opened his arms.

"There she is."

I practically threw myself into his embrace.

"I missed you so much."

"I missed you too, princess."

Before I could say anything else, my mom cleared her throat dramatically.

"So... are you just going to ignore your mother?"

I laughed and walked over to hug her.

"I missed you too, Mom."

She wrapped her arms around me and kissed my forehead.

"That's better."

Across the table, Noah made an exaggerated gagging face.

"Can we stop with the family reunion? Some of us are trying to eat."

"Oh, hush," Mom scolded, pointing her fork at him.

I stuck my tongue out at him.

"You've been living with them your whole life. Let me have my moment."

Dad chuckled.

"Speaking of moments, your mom brought you something."

My eyes immediately lit up.

"My clothes?"

Mom smiled.

"They're upstairs in your room."

I turned to Dad hopefully.

"And..."

He grinned, already knowing what I was asking.

"Yes, I got you the ruby-red one you wanted."

I squealed.

"I love you!"

Noah groaned loudly.

"I swear, they always bring gifts for her and never for me."

I looked at him like he'd completely lost his mind.

"You have your own car."

He rolled his eyes.

"You have your own office."

He sighed.

"You literally buy whatever you want with your own money. What exactly are you complaining about?"

Dad laughed while Mom simply shook her head.

"Same argument every year."

Only then did I notice Luca sitting quietly at the table.

No one seemed surprised he was there.

Then again...

This house had practically become his second home years ago.

From the way my parents casually spoke to him, it was obvious they already knew why he was staying with us.

I was halfway to the stairs when Mom stopped me.

"Eat first."

"I'll eat later!"

"No, young lady—"

"I really want to see the clothes!"

Dad smiled knowingly.

"Let her go."

Mom gave in with a sigh.

"Fine."

Just as I reached the stairs, Dad spoke again.

"Oh, by the way, your mom and I have to head out after dinner."

I stopped.

"What?"

"We have a board meeting tonight."

My excitement instantly faded.

"But... you just got home."

Mom's face softened.

"We know, sweetheart. We're sorry."

I pouted.

"I wanted to spend time with you. Now I'm going to be stuck with Noah and Luca."

Dad exchanged a glance with Mom before saying, "Actually... Noah is coming with us."

I blinked.

"Wait... why does he get to go?"

"It's a business meeting, sweetheart."

I sighed dramatically before hugging both of them again.

"Fine. But you owe me."

"We know."

Still pouting, I headed upstairs.

---

Mom hadn't been exaggerating.

The clothes were gorgeous.

Elegant dresses.

Cute tops.

Perfectly tailored jeans.

I was completely obsessed.

I tried on one outfit after another, admiring each one in the mirror.

Then, without thinking, I glanced at my phone.

8:34 p.m.

"Oh my God!"

I had been upstairs for over an hour.

I rushed out of my room and practically flew down the stairs.

The house was quiet.

Too quiet.

"They already left?"

I looked around.

No Mom.

No Dad.

No Noah.

And...

No Luca.

I frowned.

Maybe he'd gone with them after all.

Disappointed, I wandered back into the living room.

I was still wearing my favorite dress from the collection—a ruby-red, knee-length dress with delicate embroidery around the neckline. It was elegant, classy... the kind of dress that made me feel older somehow.

I couldn't help smiling at my reflection in the hallway mirror.

Maybe Ariana was right.

Maybe I didn't look like a little girl anymore.

Just then...

A car horn echoed outside.

Curious, I pulled the curtain aside and peeked through the window.

Luca's car.

He was alone.

So he'd probably dropped Noah off somewhere.

Which meant...

He was coming inside.

An idea popped into my head before I could think it through.

I quickly threw myself onto the couch, tucked my legs beneath me, and closed my eyes.

Pretend to be asleep.

Brilliant.

Or completely ridiculous.

The front door opened.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Steady.

My heartbeat pounded so loudly against my chest that I was sure he could hear it.

For a moment, it seemed like my plan had worked.

He walked past the couch without noticing me.

I silently thanked every lucky star in the universe.

Then I heard the refrigerator door open.

He was getting water.

Which meant...

The moment he turned around—

He'd see me.

I kept my eyes shut, forcing myself to breathe evenly.

Please don't notice me.

Please don't notice me.

My heart hammered against my ribs.

And somehow...

The silence felt louder than ever.

Luca pov

I turned backed only to see that waist that has always drives me crazy

What the fuck was she doing sleeping here I would've ignored her but fuck she was too irresistible before I know what was going on I moved closer I sat on the couch she was lying on, her back at me

Gosh all I want to run my hand through his hair and lick his chest because fuck they so neat I lost it for a moment, he noticed I was drooling he snapped "Hello, pervs," he said casually.I froze.Perv?Did he seriously just call me that?I looked at him, completely offended."Perv? Did you just call me a perv?" I pointed at him. "You walked downstairs wearing nothing but a towel, and somehow I'm the pervert? Come on, Luca."A small smirk tugged at his lips, clearly enjoying my reaction.I could feel my face heating up, so before I embarrassed myself any further, I turned around and walked upstairs as quickly as possible.Of course, I tried to make it look graceful.Keyword: tried. The moment I closed my bedroom door, I leaned against it and let out a frustrated sigh. Why did he have to look like that?My mind immediately replayed the scene I was desperately trying to forget—the way his hair was still damp from the shower, the drops of water disappearing as they slid down his skin.

The Problem With Having a CrushI didn't sleep. Not even for a minute. The entire night was spent staring at the ceiling, replaying every little interaction I had with Luca Bennett. The way he smiled. The way he teased me.The way he still called me Evie like I was the same fourteen-year-old girl who used to hide behind Noah whenever she got embarrassed.Except I wasn't that girl anymore. And that was the problem.By the time my alarm rang, I was already dressed.Which was honestly ridiculous because my first class wasn't even that early. But who was I kidding?I hadn't slept. My brain had been too busy having a full conversation with itself about a man who didn't even know he was the reason I couldn't sleep.I grabbed my bag and quietly opened my bedroom door. The mission was simple.Get downstairs.Leave the house.Avoid Luca.Easy.Except nothing involving Luca Bennett was ever easy.I slowly walked down the stairs, holding my breath like I was escaping a crime scene. I was fourteen the first time I met Luca Bennett.Five years later, I still couldn't decide whether meeting him had been the best thing that ever happened to me... or the worst."My annoying little sister is in the backyard," my older brother, Noah Carter, called over his shoulder as he walked into the house with his best friend.Curiosity got the better of me, so I peeked around the corner. That was the moment I saw him.Luca Bennett.Dark hair that looked like he'd run his fingers through it one too many times, hazel eyes that seemed to laugh before his lips ever did, and a smile so unfairly perfect it should've come with a warning label. He caught me staring."Who's this?" he asked, tilting his head toward me.Noah sighed dramatically. "My little sister, Evelyn Carter. Don't let the innocent face fool you. She's a menace.""I am not," I protested.Luca chuckled."Nice to meet you, Evelyn."That smile.God, that smile.I was fourteen, awkward, wearing oversized pajamas and braces I
