Evelyn's POV

My head was pounding.

It felt like someone had been hammering against my skull all night.

I slowly opened my eyes.

Everything was blurry at first.

White ceiling.

White walls.

A beeping sound somewhere beside me.

I blinked several times until everything finally came into focus.

A hospital.

I turned my head.

Mom was sitting beside my bed, tears streaming down her face.

The moment she noticed my eyes were open, she gasped.

"Evelyn!"

She grabbed my hand.

"You're awake!"

"Mom..."

Evelyn's POVWhen we got home the next day, I stayed in my room.I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, trying not to think about anything. But somehow, my mind kept returning to the same person.Luca.He hadn't visited me once since we'd returned from the hospital. Not even once. And, stupidly, it bothered me.Maybe he was giving me space.Maybe he was avoiding me.Or maybe...My thoughts took a darker turn. What if Luca set everything up?What if he somehow knew what was going to happen and deliberately played the hero so I wouldn't be angry with him?I immediately shook my head."That's ridiculous."But the thought wouldn't leave.I sighed loudly and pulled the blanket over my head.I was exhausted.Maybe if I slept, my brain would finally shut up.Just as I was drifting off—Knock. Knock.I opened my eyes."Come in."The door opened.Luca.My heart immediately betrayed me.He stepped inside and quietly closed the door behind him.I stared at him.I had a million questions.Where

Thank God."She immediately reached for the call button. The doctor came in a few minutes later and examined me.He asked me a few questions, checked my eyes and made sure I could move properly."You've been through a stressful night," he said. "You need plenty of rest. You can probably go home tomorrow, but I don't want you going to school for the rest of the week."I frowned."But—""No school.""But I have—""No sc

Evelyn's POVI waited. And waited. But Luca never came back.I couldn't sleep that night. My mind kept replaying everything that had happened in the library. The way he'd looked at me.The things he'd almost said.I buried my face in my pillow."Oh my God."I couldn't stop smiling.Maybe he'd finally seen me differently.Maybe—No.I forced myself to stop. But the smile came back anyway.---The next morning, I woke up earlier than usual.I dressed carefully, fixed my hair, and checked my phone.Nothing.I waited.Still nothing.By the time I went downstairs, I was pretending I wasn't waiting anymore.Noah was already at the table, being his usual annoying self while Mom prepared breakfast."Look who finally decided to join civilization," he teased."Good morning to you too."Mom laughed.I was about to sit down when a familiar horn sounded outside. My heart jumped. He's here.Luca walked through the front door a moment later. My face immediately lit up.He greeted Mom.He greeted Dad

Evelyn's POV"So, are we actually studying today?"I looked up from my textbook.Luca was already sitting across from me, waiting."Not exactly."His eyebrow lifted.I reached into my bag and pulled out my sketchbook."I need your help with something more important.""What project?""Two, actually. One for my department and another for a borrowed course."He leaned back."And what exactly do you need me to do?"I hesitated."I need a reference for an anatomy sketch."He stared at me."You want me to be your model?""Basically."A small smile tugged at his lips."You're serious?""Very."I opened the sketchbook and showed him the rough outline I'd already started."It's supposed to show the structure of the upper body. I thought you could help me with the proportions."He looked at the drawing. Then at me."Fine."I blinked."Really?""Yes. But you owe me.""For what?""For wasting my evening."I rolled my eyes."You love tutoring me.""I tolerate tutoring you.""Same thing."He laughe

Evelyn's POVThe moment we got home, I slammed the car door and marched into the living room.Luckily, Mom and Dad were sitting on the sofa watching TV."Mom! Dad!"Dad looked away from the television."Good afternoon to you too, my dear."I stopped."Good afternoon, Dad."Mom paused the show."What happened?"I pointed toward the door."Why did you decide I needed a tutor? And why does it have to be Luca?"Dad exchanged an amused look with Mom."You told us you were struggling with anatomy," Mom explained. "So I asked Luca to help you.""But you said Luca was a good tutor!""That was four years ago."I stared at her."Exactly!"From behind me came a quiet laugh.Luca.He was clearly enjoying this.I glared at him."What's funny?""Nothing.""Then stop smiling."He raised his hands innocently.I groaned and stomped upstairs. As I reached the top, I heard his voice behind me."Library. Four o'clock."I turned around."Excuse me?""Your first lesson."I rolled my eyes."Whatever."---I

Evelyn's POV woke up late. Very late. The kind of late that made you question every decision you'd ever made. I shot upright and grabbed my phone. "Oh my God!" I had completely forgotten about school. I barely remembered falling asleep. I'd cried for what felt like forever before exhaustion finally took over. But surprisingly, the first thing on my mind wasn't Luca. It was the decision I'd made sometime between my tears and sleep. I was done. Done chasing him. Done trying to make him notice me. Done analyzing every look, every word, every little thing he did. Luca had made it clear. I was Noah's little sister to him. Maybe I needed to accept that. Was it going to be easy? Absolutely not. I'd liked him since I was fourteen. Five years wasn't something I could erase overnight. But I had to try. For my own sanity. "Okay, Evelyn," I whispered, jumping out of bed. "New day. New beginning. No Luca." I rushed into the bathroom. I rushed through
