Chapter 51
Alexander Being hauled up with Rosalie had its perks, that was for sure. But ultimately, I knew that it had to come to an end. I had a Kingdom to run, and a battle to prepare for. And whilst I was laying claim to my mate, my beta had been dealing with the impending arrival of my uncle. It had cast a dark shadow over Castle Black. Everywhere I walk, people fell silent. Their solemn expressions watching me, waiting for me to give the order that the battle had arrived. We knew it wasn’t going to be for months yet, yet still none of us could shake the feeling that it could happen at any minute. As soon as Rosalie was able to function long enough without feeling the burning desire to strip where she stood and insist of me taking her on the spot, no matter who was watching, I returned to join the war council. And so far, I hadn’t missed much. It would seem that even my top war generals were unable to come up with a battleplan that would de

Chapter 52
Alexander Estelle flounces into the war council chambers with her head held high and a bounce in her step. A complete change from the last time I saw her where she was barely able to stand from having done a locator spell. From what Arthur had told me, she had kept to her own quarters, not really coming out unless explicitly asked for. What had got her in such a good mood was beyond me.  I had expected to find a frail woman who could barely stand. “Your Majesty.” She bows with an arrogant grace. “How may I serve you.” “You are aware that my uncle had declared war on the castle?” I ask her. “I am, your majesty.” “Then you will also know that currently we are at the disadvantage. William has troops in numbers that are far greater than ours. If we do not get reinforcements in, then we are all as good as dead.” “And how does that affect me sire?” “I need you to find a way to contact our packs.”

Rosalie   Alex had been gone since well before sun rise. It would seem that he had returned to his previous work schedule with relative ease. I couldn’t really complain, he had good reason to be up at the crack of dawn. I knew that. But I couldn’t help but feel a little bit sad that I would no longer be waking up tucked away in his arms. I missed his warmth and his scent enveloping me as the sun poured in through the window. The way he kissed my temple and bid me good morning. How he would make love to me slowly and passionately before we started the day. Instead, all I was left with was the lingering notes of woodsmoke that permeated our rooms, an empty bed and a fire to keep at bay the chill at best. It was depressing to say the least, but I was determined to not wallow.    Maddison and Alice were back to their usual morning wake up calls, helping me to get dressed for the day and ban

Chapter 54
v My solitude was short lived. With Alexander now being back amongst his council, my ladies soon got word that we had unbarricaded ourselves from our rooms, and before I knew it, our living area was once again a hive of women all eager to gossip. An outsider looking in would have had no idea that there was an army sitting on the borders of our lands. If the talk of battle had affected them at all they did a good job of hiding it. The talk of the castle was mostly, well, me. How I was finally mated and that a coronation would soon follow. As much as I tried to deny the rumour, it would seem that I would not be listened too. Two faces that I did find noticeably absent were those of Lucille and Estelle, neither of which had yet to grace us with their presence. On Estelle’s part it came as no great pity. But Lucille, I missed my friend dearly, and I itched to be able to reach out and talk to her. To apologise to her.  But despite how many times I knocked on

Chapter 55
Alexander   Every day for the last three weeks I had been hauled up in the council rooms, trying to come up with a war plan. It had been a long and arduous process. One that at some points I thought was fruitless. But for all the blows we had received thus far, there was a shining light of hope. The scouting mission to the south had been a success, and our men had found a way through to the south coast. With the southern routes open, it meant that there was no place for an ambush. But at the same time, it left us completely open to William knowing what we were up too. Using the cover of darkness, Arthur had managed to lead an expedition away to Somerset, some miles west. He would not return for some while seeing as he would have to go by sea around the leg of Cornwall and land in Bristol to ensure he avoided alerting my uncle. A mission that was pointless from the council’s point of view, but from mine w

Chapter 56
Rosalie   There is something quite sad about sitting alone of Christmas Eve, drinking wine and staring out into the night sky waiting to welcome in the start of Christmas. Yet here I was. Alone. Sitting in front of the fire, waiting, or rather hoping that Alexander will eventually make an appearance. All the preparations had been made for the first day of festivities. Tomorrow would be the feast day. Hampers full of food and gifts would be passed around to the villagers around the castle and the travellers who had arrived seeking refuge. And then in the evening there would be a great party in the main hall. All of the nobles and their families were invited. The hall would be filled with the sound of laughter and joy by nightfall. Spurred on by the dejected faces of so many around the castle who were missing loved ones and friends who were unable to be with us, I was determined to make this the best Christmas yet.

Chapter 57
The first day of the festivities had gone down without any issues. We had woken up to a world that had been transformed in a winter wonderland. Snow laid piled high in thick swathes of white in the fields around the castle. Giant icicles having formed over the arched windows around the castle. It was beautiful and freezing. Even layered up in thick winter coats and furs, the sub-zero conditions still managed to penetrate to the bone. Alexander had opted to come with me this morning and help deliver the parcels to the people of Castle Black. I had watched with eyes brimmed with tears as Alexander came with me to drop off hampers to the villages and watched as he spent time talking and playing with the little children. I found myself watching him wherever he went, or whoever he spoke to. Whenever he wasn’t speaking to one of his people, or playing in the snow with the children, he hovered over me like he didn’t want to part with me. His fingers would ca

Chapter 58
I look at the reflection of us both in the mirror, a sense of ease settling over me. I no longer felt the outsider in a world that was not my own. For the first time, I felt wanted. I looked towards the man stood beside me, my heart quickening in my chest at the sight of him. His long hair had been pulled back into a neat ponytail at the base of his skull, his blue eyes looked back at me with heavy lids. “If you continue looking at me like that Rosa, I fear we will not be making it to the party tonight.” He whispered into the shell of my ears. My cheeks heating under the weight of his words. A naughty part of me wanted to say “Would that be so bad?” The idea of him taking me to bed now and staying there until the whole of Christmas was over, well it was tempting to say the least. But we couldn’t. He was the King, and he would be expected to be there. And I as his mate, I would be expected by his side. With a sigh, I break my eye conta

# “Well, isn’t that lovely.” A voice spoke from beside us. My head shot round to find a very smug looking Estelle. None of my ladies had seen the blonde-haired temptress for days now. There were rumours that she had been helping Alexander’s war chiefs in making contact with the outer lying packs. It came as no surprise; she was the only one amongst us that could bypass William’s men without so much as having to stand from her chair. The fact of the matter was no one had particularly missed her company. Alex growled from beside me, the vibrations radiating through his chest. “What do you want Estelle.” His voice was low and menacing, a sound that I had not heard for some time now. I knew that his wolf was close just by how he spoke. Nina wasn’t far off either. She had just ruined what should have been a magical moment in our lives. “Oh, nothing in particular… sire.” She spoke with a sarcastic note to her words. Her eyes glimmeri

Chapter 60
Arthur handed over the young girl to her mother and left with a swiftness of a predator. Leaving me stood with his shivering family. “You must me the Lady Louisa?” I ask the woman after a beat. “Yes… my lady.” She seemed uncomfortable for a moment, unsure as to the best way to address me. “Please, just call me Rosalie. Or Rosie. Whichever you prefer.” I bend down to look at the little boy, he was the spitting image of his father. His unruly curls sticking out all over his head. “Shall we find you something dry to wear, and maybe even something yummy to eat?” I ask him, to which I got a small smile and a nod. I lead them away from the great hall in the direction of mine and Alexander’s personal rooms. As we rounded a corner, a shiver runs up my spine as I come face to face with a smashed window. Snow beginning to bellow in from the opening. Knowing that it must have been Alexander who cause the damage did little to comfort me. Blood could be se
