DANTEI dropped my jacket on the sofa, my head twisting in the direction of our room. It had been a long journey back, but I hadn’t wanted to be away from Amber a second longer than I’d needed to. As I neared the room, I detected Dominic’s scent, and I paused, bracing myself for what I knew lay behind the door. My darling Amber was human, and she was Dominic’s true mate. I swallowed, knowing that once I saw her with him, I’d know if I could tolerate his hands on her. 

AMBER  Dizziness swept over me, and I glanced around, convinced someone was watching me. “Who’s there?” I called, clutching the towel closer. Dante had left me here, ordering me to stay put and answer the door to no one.I could hear Dominic outside, his anger evident as he barked at whoever had turned up uninvited. I dressed quickly, ignoring the fact that I could feel eyes on me as I did. I paced the room, stilling when I heard someone sobbing outside. “He’s dead!” Someone screamed, and my heart leaped into my throat. 

AMBER I can’t leave. How could I? Tears stung my eyes, and my breath caught in my throat as I tried not to stir, desperate not to wake the brothers. For the first time in my life, I felt complete. Dominic had his arm across my stomach, his breath hot on my neck as he slept.
