Veronica recalled her own words five years ago in Monica's. It was the same ultimatum she gave the latter then. Instantly, she had the unsettling feeling that Monica was up for revenge. However, she had nothing more to fight for. All those years she spent trying to get close to her son only proved futile. She was bound to leave the Villa anyway, even though she didn't have a place with Mr. Herbert Norman. It was her decision and she had to pay the price. At the hospital, Monica sat beside Sly with her computer on her lap. She worked and talked through her day with Sly as if he could hear her. She sobbed a few times and continued to work.  Sometimes, she would bury her head in his stomach and soak it with her tears of regret. Mr Herbert Norman called from time to time, hoping for some good news, but rather recoiling with disappointment. James visited every day and Kyle sometimes. Veronica never showed up at the hospital again but Dickson did so a few times. Monica had become thin and frail, as a result of not eating regularly. She would drink coffee and snack on an apple or banana. When Elsie brought her food prepared by the new chef, she found herself not having the appetite.
