THE ADVENTURE BEGINS “You’re late.” Sierra glanced at her watch just as a huge yawn escaped her, causing her eyes to go blurry.  “By two minutes, I’d say that’s a miracle, given the fact that I’m still asleep.” Sierra pointed out, making Roman smile, even straight out of bed she was at the top of her game.  “Your wittiness never ceases to amuse me. Now, would you prefer a scenic run or would you like to just hit the gym?” Sierra glanced outside, seeing that the sun hadn’t risen yet.  “What would you suggest?” Roman contemplated for a moment before pointing to t

BREAKING COMFORT ZONES Ken sat in a booth at the back of the restaurant while Sierra and Roman were at a table in the middle of the restaurant. There was soft music playing through the speakers as diners ordered their food and drinks, Roman mentioned earlier that the actual Karaoke only started at nine after most patrons had enough liquid courage to face the night, but Sierra wasn’t one for heavy drinking, she’d experienced the hype of having liquid courage in college and didn’t care much for it.  “So, what song are you singing?” Roman smirked, his eyes daring her to say she wasn’t going to sing.  “I’m going to sing…” She rubbed her non-existent beard thinking of the

DOCTOR, DOCTOR The Tuesday after their late-night was a tough one for Sierra, she was exhausted from their late-night endeavors, yet Roman still insisted that an early morning workout was mandatory.  His justification that she created a routine of working out was more important in the early days than ever and to add salt to the wound he pointed out that she wasn’t nearly old enough to be tired after a late night.  “How old are you?” Sierra asked as she dabbed sweat off her forehead, she was done for the morning, but Roman still had a set to complete. He glanced at her taking a seat on a bench across from him as he did his la

THE MONSOON   “Where are we going exactly?” Sierra questioned curiously, but leaned back in her seat and enjoyed the beauty of Singapore in darkness.   “You’ll know when we get there.” Roman winked, sharing a smile with Ken in the mirror.    “You know if at any point tonight my life flashes before my eyes, I would only blame myself for trusting you both.” Her vague threat only served to amuse them.    The sun was setting outside, the beautiful hues of orange and purple scattered across the sky caused a sense of excitement to wash over her. When Roman showed up to her door clad in a tuxedo with a beautiful black dress and a pair of charcoal heels in hand, she had no idea what to expect, but her promise to herself oblige

HAPPINESS Sierra groaned when the comforter slipped off her face and the light pierced through her eyelids. She loved the expansive windows every other day of the week, except Saturdays, it was the one day a week she got to sleep in, so being assaulted by the sun wasn’t her idea of a good morning.  Just as she resolved to throw herself under the covers again and attempt to fall asleep again the phone buzzed on the nightstand, the ringtone alerted her that it was an international call. Sighing out loud she sat up in bed and picked up the phone, she couldn’t avoid them forever.  “Hello?” She croaked and cleared her throat, cringing at the sound of her own voice.

REALIZATION “Okay, where to go today?” Sierra asked, slurping on the strawberry and cream milkshake that Roman insisted they try, she wasn’t in the least disappointed in his insistence.  “I was thinking, you haven’t been to the night market since you got here, which is actually kind of weird, but it’s Saturday, which means there will be a lot more street performers around and all the best food vendors are there over the weekend.” Sierra glanced at her watch and raised an eyebrow at him when she saw that it was only 9 am. “I hate to break it to you, Roman, but it’s 9 am.” Chuckling at her obvious statement he continued to lead them back in

INTERMISSION Sierra stared down a microscope willing her eyes to focus on the specimen in the petri dish below the lens. She was studying the cells of the plant to see if it held any similarities to plants she’d studied in the past simply to understand more of the make-up thereof. The field research part of her trip was concluded, along with a team of botanists who studied the area in which the plant was indigenously found, them to learn what is needed to survive elsewhere in the world and her to understand how it could be preserved in a manner that would allow it to retain its properties.  Rare plants like this were sensitive and due to their supposed properties, it was necessary to develop an understanding of it to allow for long-term research. While her trip to Singapore was in hopes of providing a way forward in terms of more advan

A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE The ice rink was similar to the one they had back home and having the place decked out in tinsel stars and colorful Christmas lights warmed Sierra’s heart despite the chill in the air.  “It’s your first Christmas here, I figured you’d be missing home so I thought if you couldn’t be home for Christmas, how about we bring a little home to you?” Roman smiled down at her with kind eyes, “It’s hardly a Christmas in San Francisco surrounded by the people you love, but even with eight-thousand miles between you, I knew there had to be something that would make the holiday time sweeter.” If her heart was warm before, his words melted her.  Californian kids hardl

RAINCHECK   “You realize this was something we were supposed to do a month ago?” The amusement in Sierra’s voice was hard to miss as they walked hand in hand through the night market.    “Neither of us was truly invested that night anyway, snuggled up on the couch was a way better idea.” Roman shrugged, not caring that they hadn’t come out that night, he loved every moment he spent with her that day.    “True, I would probably have frowned at you if you even suggested it.” She giggled, remembering how they fell asleep on the couch till his alarm rang for work the next morning. Regardless of the fact that they both spent the night curled up on the couch, they unwrapped their limbs from one another and made their way down to the

A PERFECT FIT “Catch me if you can.” Sierra laughed and took off down the street, it was the first time in a week that the weather was good enough to take a run outside in the morning so her excitement was through the roof. She knew Roman could easily catch up with his long, muscular legs, but she enjoyed the game of cat and mouse for a few moments.  “Oh goodness, Sierra, please slow down!” Roman chuckled breathlessly, she didn’t notice it, but she set a faster pace than normal and after getting a callout at midnight for an emergency, he was too tired to keep up with her, not that she knew about any of that.  “What’s wrong, doctor, can’t keep up with me?” She teased, slowin
