CHAPTER FIVE: Glass Shattered!
SERRAI turned around but I couldn’t see a thing. I strode forward without any idea where my feet would take me. A rattling sound echoed every time I stepped. Darkness was everywhere but I could see my way as if I lived in the dark.as if I belong here.“H-Help...” a raspy voice whispered in my ear.I averted my attention at the side but no one’s there. I walked forward endlessly. My mind was blank but my feet knew where to go.“H-Help...” I heard the same voice however it wasn’t just in my ear.I don’t know where to settle my head. The sound bounced from one place to another. The owner of the voice sounded like he was everywhere. I tried to follow the voice but it lead me to nowhere. My heart beat fast out of excitement. I should be scared yet I felt thrilled.A light from afar suddenly surfaced. I leaped towards the light and revealed myself. I froze seeing a feeble and naked man tied to the chair.“H-Help...” he uttered once more.Bruce!I called but he didn’t seem to hear me. I yell

CHAPTER FIVE: Hee-er
This time, it didn’t take long when the investigation team arrived which was contrary to the day Bruce fell from the clock tower. It took them almost an hour before reaching the crime scene given the fact that the station was only a few blocks away from the university. They were slouching for some reason or maybe their service depended on the background of the person who called them. It was Amanda Silverio after all, perks of being the governor’s daughter. “Take Amara somewhere comfortable. I’ll be the one to give a statement,” Amanda suggested. I just nodded and helped Amara out guiding her by the hand. I was struggling thinking of a place where I could take her. Scratch the idea of taking her to our room since it was just next to Bruce’s room. I nibbled the bottom of my lip. “Let’s just head to my room,” she said in between her sobs. I just nodded and lead the way towards the dorm’s elevator. I glanced at her when the elevator’s door closed. “Fifth floor.” She tightened her gri

CHAPTER FIVE: It Wasn’t Me
Her words made my heart throbbed. “About what?” “I am carrying a being in my womb for two months now. I hid it from Bruce and everyone else even the school nurse by faking my period that almost lead to miscarriage.” She gently brushed her tummy with love. “I told him once and the truth almost killed me. I reasoned out that it was a prank and it brought him back to his senses but he couldn’t remember what he did to me. Sometimes I would wake up with a pain in my belly and found Bruce squeezing it while blurting foreign languages. He was possessed but I don’t know which devil not until I heard its voice at the library. It was the only time I was certain that it was Mark, my ex-boyfriend.” Her voice cracked. I sighed in relief. Thank goodness my initial thought was wrong. Her choice of words especially the confess one made me nervous. “Why are you telling me all of these?” I questioned. “I need your help to find Bruce’s soul and I confessed to gain your trust.” Her sincere eyes met mi

CHAPTER FIVE: Patient
“Why did you do that?” I didn’t look at him and just focused on bandaging his wrist. I lifted my gaze when he didn’t respond. I stared at his sleeping face for a moment before finishing the bandage. He was leaning his head on the top of his extended arm over the table. I stretched my arm above the table and leaned my head on the top of it mirroring his position. I gave his face a good glimpse. He looked vulnerable, soft, and warm which was the opposite of his strong, intimidating, and cold usual self. We were in the university’s garden at the moment. We went to the clinic to borrow the first aid kit before heading here. The nurse let me borrow the kit since we were quite close. I was her frequent customer because of some bruises and scratches I got from some of my bullies. I still have a few despite being feared. My phone rang so I swiftly answered it because it might wake Grip. “Have you found her?” I asked in the softest voice I have. “No, but one of the guards said that they s

CHAPTER SIX: Grudge and Desire
“How could we find Bruce?” I racked my head the entire time but I haven’t thought of a place where he possibly gone to. The sun already set and a cold breeze embraced my skin. We are at the end of August, few days left and it would be ber months. As time passed by the wind was getting colder and colder an indication that December was fast approaching. I hugged myself to lessen the chills I was feeling. “We could track him down by identifying his grudge or his desire. Humans whose lives were forcefully taken away from them were most likely to have grudges while people who were not ready to die or have regrets develop desires. Grudges and desires are the reasons why souls refuse to leave the world of the living. Resolving of grudges or desires was the only way for them to cross the light.” He sipped on his coffee that appeared earlier from nowhere. “Bruce was murdered, for sure he has an intense grudge,” Gugu stated. I snapped my fingers. “Maybe he’s in the clock tower!” Grip shook

CHAPTER SIX: Valley of the Dead
I peeped on his side and the reaped yellow tape attached to the huge metal gate captured my attention. ‘CRIME SCENE DO NOT ENTER’ was boldly indicated on the tape. “Someone’s here,” Grip affirmed that sent an icy feeling throughout my body. “Where are we?” I stood beside him and examined the place. We were at the end of the alley. Houses were far behind making this two-storey house isolated. A black blanket was laid across the sky leaving the moon to shine brightly as if it was the star of the night. Towering trees on the sides generated shadows that resembled beasts. The house was a sight away from where we stood. “Outside Silverio University, far from the main proper and is known as the valley of the dead,” he responded. I’ve never been to a place like this. I’ve never even imagined that such horrifying place exists on this island. Seeing ghosts never scared me but being here does. The dead scattered in every corner of the island living its name Vitam et Mortem which means the l

CHAPTER SIX: Umbras
Every time she strode forward my heart skipped a beat. I gawked behind her. A shadow-like hand appeared and pushed her down the stairs. I caught her with my body but the impact was so strong and sudden that it made me yield backward. I closed my eyes and waited for us to roll down the stairs but someone clutched my shoulders and kept me in place. “Trying to save everyone will only put you in danger.” Grip’s toned chest pressed against my back. The man-like shadow revealed himself smiling from ear to ear, literally. A roar echoed behind him and a loud thud struck his back. He clamored in pain and knelt. His face kissed the floor and his body laid flat on the ground as if his leg was being pulled. He howled not letting go of the railings but not long after he gave up and removed his grasp. His claws dug deep on the floor as he resists being dragged but eventually failed. Grip helped us go down the stairs. Roars, howls, thud, shattering of glasses, and breaking of woods could be heard

CHAPTER SIX: Bridge of Life
Bruce knelt beside Amara and brushed her hair. He held her cheeks with both hands and put their head together. “Baby, I’ll untie you. Don’t do that again okay?” She nodded then Bruce untied her. He kissed her forehead and she started crying. She held his hand and put it on her tummy. Bruce leaned down and kissed her belly with tears gliding down his face. I looked away and swiftly wiped a teardrop on the corner of my eye. I turned on my side when I heard exaggerating blubber. I saw Gugu crying her eyes out while watching Amara and Bruce. “Can I?” Mark approached Bruce. Amara crouched and hid her face on Bruce’s chest. She was so scared of him. Mark retreated upon seeing her reaction. He was hurt and sad knowing that the girl who once became his world was frightened of him. Bruce lend Amara’s hand towards Mark telling her it was alright. Mark gently sat in front of them and brushed the back of her hand using his thumb. “I’m so sorry...” he cried and kissed the back of her hand. “F

CHAPTER SEVEN: Coffe and Art Cafe
“You should eat this.” I shove a slice of apple in Amara’s mouth. “You’re eating unhealthy foods. It’s bad for the baby,” I scolded her. “It’s because I’m craving for it. More and more of it,” she reasoned out and ate a fork-full of spaghetti behind my back but I caught her. “No more spaghetti for you young lady.” I snatched her paper plate and jabbed it on the trash can. “I haven’t finished it yet!” she complained. “What a waste!” She dropped her back on the bench. “Hi! Guys...” Victoria placed her bag on the table. “Hi, Ria. Now that you’re here I’d better go.” I picked up my things and put them in my backpack. “Don’t spoil her okay?” “I won’t,” Victoria assured and winked at Amara. The latter giggled. “I saw that.” I glared at them both. Amara frowned and Victoria chuckled. I bid goodbye and left them in the garden. It has been a week since Mark and Bruce crossed over. Amara looked a bit better now but according to Victoria she still cried at night. The issue about Bruce’s d

CHAPTER SEVEN: Medius
“Serve this to table four.” Xyrus forced a platter on me. “And this to table eight.” And another platter. “And clean the tables over there!” he added. We were in peak season and we were having customers left and right both dine-in or take out and he made me do everything. He made my co-workers gave their roles to me. They were enjoying watching me suffer from the employee’s lounge. Everyone in here hated me since I’m a medius except for grandma Harrison of course. He was treating me as a slave the entire morning and I think it would end when the day ends! I’ve been doing tasks assigned to him by grandma herself while he spent all his time flirting with the cashier and making out in the kitchen! Right now I was like a kettle over a burning stove, any moment I would d*mn whistle. I breathed in deep to get a hold of my temper. I plastered a smile on my lips and flipped my hair on his face. “You–” I gave him deaf ears and continued on my way to serve the orders to the customers. I ser
