Chapter 21
“Is Pam still mad at you?” Ashley asks. We are currently in the office locker area. “She’s still upset with me,” I say, feeling heavy again. “What did you do anyway? Have you done something really bad for her to act like that?” Ashley applies a bold red lipstick. She smacks her lips together as she stares at herself on the compact mirror she’s holding. I let out a deep sigh and don’t utter another word. It has been three days since Devyn left. It’s been four days and Pam is still not talking to me. I haven’t heard from either of the two of them. “It’s normal to get upset about something. But with the two of you, don’t you think that she’s going overboard with her reaction?” She turns away from the mirror just to face me. “I mean, look at you! You look so forlorn and heartbroken!” Yes, maybe I am. It’s not just because Pam has been deliberately ignoring me these past few days. It is also because Devyn is still not returni

Chapter 22
“Why haven’t you touched your food, Betsy?” Dad asks worriedly. We are having our dinner. I just arrived in town earlier because it’s my day off. My mood is off since I haven’t heard from Devyn yet. I reluctantly glance at my dad who is looking at me. “I’m not that hungry, Dad.” “Is there a problem? It seems like something is bothering you,” he persists. His voice sounds very concerned. “I’m fine.” I force smile to reassure him that everything is okay. He lets out a heavy sigh. “I know you are missing Grandpa. I do too. We should always think that he is now in a better place.” He sips on his coffee and then puts it down. He looks at me with curiosity. “That guy who came here before, is he your boyfriend?” he asks straightforwardly. “I’m not even sure anymore.” I reply in a small voice and rub my eyes. I am stating a fact because this is what I currently feel. Dad shakes his head disappointingly. For a mom

The man’s hold on my arm tightens. I try so hard to jerk my hand away from him. In panic and desperation, I step on the man’s foot. He quickly and finally let go of my arm. I slip from his grip and without any hesitation, run away from him. Fearing that Devyn might have followed me behind, I turn my head and my heart skips a beat to see him and the old man striding toward me. I am standing near the fruit stands when I struggle with the heels of my shoes. Son of a- It’s broken! It breaks when I am so close to the exit. It would have been just a few steps and I would definitely be out. I take one of it and check. It is really broken! “Betsy!” Oh boy! Devyn’s voice is getting closer and closer. I stand straight as if hit by a sudden lightning. Relentless fear and nervousness envelope my entire body. I try to resume walking even with great difficulty just to get away from the two of them. I carry one shoe on my left hand. I

Chapter 24
“Where did you go, Betsy? You just suddenly disappeared from the market earlier,” Dad asks, confused. We are currently in the kitchen and he is cleaning the fish in the sink. I am sitting on the chair and massaging my aching foot. I wonder if Devyn is still in there. Maybe he’s home back in Seattle or New York. Wherever he maybe. I look at Dad. “I just talked to someone I know,” I lie. “Gloria thought you already went home ahead of us.” My gaze lands on the pitiful fish he has been cleaning for some time now. “I think you’re going overboard in cleaning the fish, Dad,” I say. He turns to look at me with a frown on his face. “I don’t want it to smell fishy.” “That’s a fish, Dad,” I state the obvious. He shakes his head and resumes with what he’s doing. Before I can give a comment any further, we hear the doorbell rings. “I’ll go get it,” I inform and walk out of the kitchen. When I reach the

“Are you really okay?”  This is probably the tenth time Pam has asked me. She isn’t satisfied with my answer earlier that she actually brings her swivel chair closer to mine. “I’m fine,” I insist. She raises her eyebrows. She looks at me unconvincingly. “Are you sure? You shouldn’t have gone to work today.” I grimace and give her a serious look. “For what reason? Because I am brokenhearted?” “Yes! Emotional baggage is a valid excuse,” she says. Her eyes turn menacing. “Do you want me to kick Wills’ ass?” I feel warm inside with her concern. I weakly smile at her. “Stop it already before you convince me. Besides, I’m already here in the office. It’ll be a waste of time and energy to go back to my apartment.” She stares at me for a long time. She let out a deep and tired sigh. “What if he comes here and talk to you? How are you going to avoid him?” “That will not happen,” I say with certainty. “He won’t approa

His statement shocks me so much that I stop struggling. I stare at him and read the emotions being displayed on his face. It has a streak of strong determination. “Let me go, Devyn!” I say but it sounds weak in my ears. “Just promise me you won’t run away from me,” he says, wanting reassurance. “Fine. I won’t run!” He stares at me for a long time. His face is skeptical. I stare back at him, giving him a serious look. I have probably convinced him and he finally let go of my arm. “Are you sure that you’re going to tell me everything?” I ask him with a raised eyebrow. I still have doubts about the sincerity in his words. “Yes,” he simply says. I give him a tiny shrug as  if I am not really into it. “What if I’m not interested anymore?” “I’m still going to tell you everything.” His gaze doesn’t falter. I show him a nonchalant shrug. I may look calm on the outside, but on the inside I feel a mixt

Chapter 27
“Close your eyes,” Ashley tells Pam. She is expertly putting make up on Pam. “Don’t be so impatient if you want to look good,” Ashley says. She glances my way. “Kindly hand me the brush, Betsy.” I pick up the thick brush from the table and gives it to her. “Thanks!” she says. “Pass me the sponge as well.” “For how long are you planning to stay here?” I ask as I pass the sponge to her. “We’re having a sleep over in here,” Pam is the one who replies. “What? De- Jack and I have an early flight tomorrow!” I exclaim. I can’t entertain them for tonight since I have an early day tomorrow. “You can go and sleep ahead of us,” Ashley says. She is so focused on using the brush on Pam’s cheeks. “How can I sleep when you’re here in my room, doing this make up session?” I retort indignantly. “This is our going away party for you,” Pam murmurs. She currently looks like a statue because of her thick contours.

Chapter 28
I have finally made the hardest decision in my life. I am not leaving Devyn’s bathtub. I am completely and irrevocably in love with it. It’s so huge that I can run around. The warm bubble bath that covers my body soothes all of my muscle aches. His bathroom is mega huge and luxurious. I inhale his expensive bubble bath soap. I smile and grin. I love this life! As my mild travels in amazement on this wondrous place, I soft knock on the bathroom door startle me. “Betsy? Are you done there?” I hear Devyn’s voice from the outside. “Come out now. Let’s have dinner.” “Yes! Give me five more minutes!” I shout as I pop another bubble. “You already said that about an hour ago,” says Devyn in a playful tone. “Okay. Uh . . . two minutes?” I say and blows another bubble from my legs. I am so comfortable. I can live here. I don’t have a bathtub in the apartment because my bathroom is too small for it to even fit. I hear him c

Using his expert hands, Devyn completely removes the remaining tiny cloth that I have on my body. My lips when I see him gradually removing his boxers as well. I swallow hard when I finally see him. He kneels down between my legs and resumes his hot trails of kisses down my stomach. I moan so loud when his mouth lands on my most intimate part. I can’t stay still on the bed as the sensations take me higher and higher. Every flick of his tongue makes me reach my peak. Our loud moans shake the entire room. My grip on his hair tightens as he becomes more ruthless. “Devyn, p-please,” I beg, wanting to reach my climax. He seems to get what I am asking for, his tongue flicks deeper as his fingers dig deeper, touching my spot. My jaw clenches and I close my eyes so tight as I finally explode. It is so good that I think I can see stars. I catch my breath for a minute and calm myself down. I look down on him and before I can even process the who

Chapter 30
Our hands are clasped as we enter inside their huge house. As soon as we step on the marble floor, we look at each other. My grip on his hand tightens, getting courage from it. We are immediately approached and greeted by a beautiful woman with a huge smile on her face. “You’re late as usual!” her bright opening remark. “Happy birthday, Mom,” greets Devyn. He gives his mother a soft kiss on the cheek. His mother looks even more beautiful in person. She’s wearing a simple red dress with a long slit on the side. I give them a moment as they hug each other for a few seconds. And then her mother finally turns to look at me. She breaks into a friendly smile. “You must be Betsy,” she brightly says. “Devyn has told me so much about you.” I flush, feeling embarrassed and warm at the same time. “Er… Hi! Happy birthday, ma’am.” “Oh thanks, sweetie. But please call me Suze,” she says with a laugh. She anchors our arms together as i
