Chapter 11: Birthday Bash
"Will you calm down. You're practically peeling my skin off my hand." Hunter hissed and I looked down to our joined hands and saw my nails digging into his skin."Sorry." I apologized as I quickly removed my hand. I had decided to put today's episode behind me at least so I could enjoy the party. Cynthia and her family knew when something bothered me. Before we came here, we made a pitstop to my place and I changed from the adorable pink panda outfit Hunter bought for me to my outfit for the evening."You don't have to stop holding my hand. Just don't remove all the skin on it away or it would look ugly and you won't kiss it now would you." He teased.I slapped his arm gently as a smile worked its way to my face."The smile suits you better dear. You're going to kick ass." He assured me, taking my hand and entwining our fingers again as he held the big cake in his other hand.Feeling the n

Chapter 12: Mended bridges
"I already told you it was not going to end up well, what were you think Tom?" Cynthia yelled as she pressed the swab filled with spirit on his lip."He wasn't thinking, that was what." Aunt Delilah said, "That hottie should have bashed your head in.""Aunt!" Florence said in warning. She had been so disappointed in her son. She couldn't imagine how he would do such a thing."You all don't understand me. It's tough being the only male in a household of women. She played me. Told me she didn't like it when she was touched and there she was allowing that creep to touch her all over. She fooled all of us!" He continued to struggle which made Cynthia pressed the wool down on his lips."Ouch! Are you here to help me or hurt me?" He asked, pushing the swab away."If I could just smash your head in I would. All this time I have been thinking that you were a good candidate for my friend. That she

Chapter 13: Time travel
"You seem really happy." Hunter said, as we sat down for therapy that evening. Even though we were an item in the outside world. In this room Hunter was always the professional, so we compartmentalized our feelings so we could do focus on therapy. It was always Miss Mills and Hunter. The contrast between this world and the outside world was exciting. Hunter was determined to solve my problem; hence the need for boundaries... "Yes I am." I was smiling from ear to ear. "Care to tell me what is responsible for this unexplainable happiness." He looked curious, but it was the subdued form of curiosity. Not the boyfriend 'wanting to know' kind. "Well my friend Cynthia came today, and apologized to me for everything that happened between us, and we settled our issue. She's going to start sleeping at home from tomorrow." I said, feeling slightly sad that I won't be able to stay with Hunter any

Chapter 14: Slutty red dress
As I got inside, I heard grandma singing along to Glenn Miller's 'always In my heart.'Her beautiful voice blending perfectly with Glenn's. I normally would have gone to the Kitchen, hopping on the counter as I munched on an apple, telling her about my day.But for the first time, I didn't seek her presence, neither did I want to talk to her. I had forgotten our screen door was an alarm on its own."Hey! Vero! Is that you?" She called out, and despite my mood, I knew I couldn't avoid her and go to my room, so I moved into the kitchen."Good afternoon Grandma." I greeted and walked to the fridge to get myself water to drink. My throat was parched from all the crying I did In school after I walked out of the cafeteria. I wondered if my eyes were red too."I didn't hear your car. Didn't you bring it home?" She asked as she sliced onions. Luckily, I was far away from her, so my eyes didn't sting even thou

Chapter 15: Friend or foe
I said I won't regret the choices I made, but I was blinded by anger, and we never make the right choices when angry... Veronica I rushed to the bar, needing something to calm my short up nerves down. Different boys were trying to get my attention as I walked by, but I couldn't care less.  I needed something to wash off the bitter taste of the words I said to Lily. Having never drank beer before I wasn't aware it tasted bad so I spat the beer out directly on the guy beside me, drawing a little attention from the little crowd around. I probably would have been mortified, had I not been wearing a mask that covered most of my upper face. I began to apologize profusely to him, but stopped short when he burst out laughing. "This was just what I needed." He commented, still laughing. His weird behavior at being the recipient of warm bear coming from another person's mouth, was di

Chapter 16: Fragile hearts
Sometimes we break hearts not to break hearts, but then we end up with the same pain. Maybe one pain could be slightly greater than the other....Hunter The air was filled with the slightly creepy and sterile scent, that seemed to never stop plaguing hospitals. It was one of the reasons I disliked coming to hospitals so much. They practically had to drag me for checkups. Being in a hospital always seemed to act like a constant remainder of how fickle life could be. One moment you're alive and well, the next you could be confined to a bed, fighting for the right to live. With nothing to do, I stared blankly at the flat screen tv, placed at the topmost corner on the right of where I sat. The images passed quickly but I wasn't paying any attention to it. Since we got to the hospital, I hadn't gotten any news from anyone. And Grace, unable to stand me, had removed herself to wherever it was she felt would better save her from seeing

Chapter 17: Hunter
With the things he wouldn't reveal, he punctured her heart, leaving it damaged and broken. She trusted him with everything, and this was how he paid her back. She told her heart she didn't need him, it called her a liar. She had to agree with it. She was trying to lie to herself.... Veronica I couldn't do much but watch her leave the room hurriedly. I didn't need a fortune teller to tell me I had messed up big time and I probably would have a lot to fix after I got discharged. I just couldn't explain why I was acting the way I was. It was no secret I didn't like talking about my parents. I probably should have told her the folks I said were my foster parents were actually my adoptive parents, but that wouldn't be happening now, especially not after what I found out today during our session. A soft knock on the door brought me out of my thoughts, and I turned, hopeful that it was Veronica returning to me. The door swung open and

Chapter 18: Scotch
Veronica It had been over an hour since I left the hospital. My confrontation with Hunter made me feel a little off-kilter and I tried my best to prevent the feeling eroding my peace of mind. I could have gone home straight but I didn't as I knew it would be me and Louise for company. I loved that cat, but I didn't need his meows demanding I do what he wanted. If he wasn't careful I wouldn't think twice about giving him up or taking him to the nearest shelter. The fact that I was thinking that way, only proved how angry and frustrated I was. What was there in telling me about his parents? I wondered. Okay, so maybe-just maybe, I hadn't been forthcoming with truths about my family situation, as I avoided mentioning them or making reference to them, at least I didn't make him feel not trusted, or whatever he felt that made him unable to speak to me about his folks. The thought to go back and challenge him almost made me stand up from the

Chapter 19: Night Visit
Louise had been lazily stroking himself, his gaze fixed on the green light emitted by the microwave timer. It had been hours since he last saw his owners, but now it was night and he was hungry. It was this pitiful state that made him stare intently at the door like it would open at any moment and they would rush into the house with lots of treats in hand, and apologies for starving him. So potent remained his stare and focus that he didn't see the shadow lurking from the crack under the door. His eyes darted quickly from the door knob to the crack, when it finally caught his attention. He stood on his four paws quickly, excited that he would finally get to eat something, but he drew back gently when the shadow stilled, not moving. Something about that made him jump down from the cream colored love seat he had been luxuriating on; his owners didn't linger neither were they silent about their entry. He took shelter under the love seat, his yellow eyes

Chapter 20: The talk
Jameson had just taken his first sip of his coffee when his wife, Betty, came in. He watched her and noticed she was avoiding looking in him the eye, something that she only did whenever she had done something he wouldn't like. Knowing what was coming, he fortified his mind to be prepared for whatever shocking thing she would say to him that might offend him. She took the pot of coffee he had made and poured some intoghe dainty tea cup she preferred, putting no sugar but drowning the coffee in milk. He shook his head gently at her longstanding absurdity while a smile played at the corner of his lips. Since he was resting on a side of the counter, she took the opposite side directly in front of him. Jameson banished worry from his mind when he saw she didn't speak, instead she had her eyes glued to the cup of coffee she was holding.        "What did you do now?" He asked finally when she didn't speak. "Come on, tell me. I promise to be benevolent and take
