Chapter 10 | Deep
I laughed as I ran under a curved, fallen tree, built as a jungle playground for young pups, without ducking it. While Nix had to take a detour around to catch me. If he tried, I wasn't sure he'd be able to wiggle his way into the middle of this tree in his wolf form. He was simply too big for something intended for children. I may have been running quickly, but he was only trotting to keep up, adjusting his speed with mine.We left the jungle playground and head out to the forest. As we got closer to the deepest part of the forest, I slowed down and Nix took the lead.As I studied the smell of the trees and plants around us, I followed him up and down various trails. He was walking quickly, and I was trotting alongside him. We entered a small meadow, and I perked my ears at a bush on the other side, but I wasn't concerned because I could smell and sense the approaching sentry. A grey dappled wolf emerged with a rustle. Nix was not surprised to see him and approached t

Chapter 11 | Electrified
We took a break by a stream to get a drink. A large log had fallen across the creek and was partially off the ground because it was propped up against the far bank. I quickly scrambled up on top of the log after glancing at Nix, who was still drinking. He raised his head and tilted it as he looked at me with curiosity.I was now sitting on the log, level with his brow. I grinned at him, despite the fact that my face was not yet in any way level with his. He hadn't moved from where he was standing next to the log while drinking. I knew I'd never win a wrestling match with any wolf, let alone an enforcer, but that didn't stop me from leaping onto his back.As I landed on his shoulders, I wasn't sure if he felt the impact of my fifteen-pound body. I knew my toes wouldn't be able to reach through the thick fur on his back, let alone scratch him. They did assist me in holding on as I grabbed a mouthful of fur and wiggled side to side amusingly. As he flopped down to his sto

Chapter 12 | Embrace
As we passed other members in the streets, I received a lot of strange looks. But I can sense no threat from their stares. Most were simply excited while whispering with those around them when they noticed that Aeonix is holding my hand. I opened my Omega senses and tried to reach their surface emotions. I found that some of them were surprised, intensifying the murmurs around the place. I can sense their happiness and anticipation. A couple of them were envious, and I caught one or two disapproving glances. But positive emotions prevailed. I gave out a shy smile, relieved that most pack members accepted my presence in their territory.Nix encouraged me to walk around the territory, pointing out each shop and stall and explaining what they typically sold. But my gaze was drawn to the library. I didn't read very well in my younger days and wasn’t quick at picking up the contents of a book, but I enjoyed trying until I fall asleep. And when I became a rogue, I didn't have

Chapter 13 | Entrée
We eventually arrived at another store with baked goods on display in the windows. The smell of the bread and cookie was drool-worthy. I licked my lips in an attempt to savor the delicious smell. I heard Nix chuckle on my side and I gently jabbed him and rolled my eyes. I didn’t know that an enforcer can tease and make jokes. As we walked inside the bakeshop, a woman in her thirties raised her head, wiping the flour off her brown apron. "Ah, Nix, it's good to see you again.” She turned to look at me and asked, her motherly voice reminding me of my late mother, “Who's your friend?" Nix grinned as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me in closer to his side. "This is Etheral," Nix said glancing at me and then back to the lady. The smile on the lady’s face was replaced with confusion. She gaped at Nix and said, “Wait, I can’t believe this. Are you two—?” The lady shifted her gaze between me and Nix. She clapped her mouth when Nix kissed my

Chapter 14 | Entertain
The dining hall was filled with delightful food wafting by my nose. The hall was pleasant and gorgeously decorated. I remembered my original pack’s dining hall where my parents would serve me my favorites every time. My original pack was as beautiful as this pack, it smells like home.We were seated at a long rectangular wooden table and after we ate our first meal, Henry opened a topic and the conversation just went on and on casually, diving into different memories – their worst and best ones.I laughed as Greg told me about what his whole class did during their graduation ceremony. Greg said that they didn’t attend the ceremony and just ran away to the forest in their wolf form. It was as if they are claiming their freedom. Greg even called it 'Free Doom of the Dumbs.' Before taking a drink, I shook my head at his stories. Henry and Soren were part of Greg’s mischievous moments. Henry took the spotlight and exaggerated his own version of thei

Chapter 15 | Evening
I turned around and cast a glance at the approaching Luna. She kept her gaze fixed on us and planted a subtle smile on her delicate face. The Luna walks with grace, carrying that always bright aura – not the kind of bright aura that will hurt your eyes but that brightness where it calms you down. I smiled and Nix found my face looking somewhere else then he followed my gaze.Nix smiled as Luna approached and patted his shoulder. "Mary, how are you? How are things going?" he asked. The Luna sighed in relief. "Good. I just need to figure out where your mate is going to sleep tonight. After that, my evening tasks will be complete."Nix and I both turned red at the subject while Luna giggled at our reaction. Even if the mate bond was only partially formed and is not yet complete, most mates were unable to sleep if they were separated. And if they both sleep in one bed, it will make both of them touchier and increased the male's protectiveness. That could mean

Chapter 16 | Entourage
I slowly awoke and realized I couldn't move my legs. I opened my eyes and blinked in the dim morning light streaming in through the window. Nix had moved to the middle of the bed and cradled me against his chest as he curled up around me at some point during the night. My back was against his chest, and both of his arms were protectively encircling me. He'd drawn his legs up to form another wall, and his face was lightly pressed into the fur on my neck. Even with my small wolf form, I had no chance of wriggling out of his embrace. But rather than getting out of his arms, I chose to unwind by listening to the soothing sound of his breathing and heartbeat. My senses told me that no one was awake in the rooms inside the pack house yet, except for the sentries and patrols that had been guarding the borders and gates all night. I closed my eyes but after a while, I couldn’t sleep again so I decided to see if I could break free from Nix's grip. I wiggled my way out of Nix's g

Chapter 17 | Easy
I went closer to Nix’s side and held his hand with my two hands. Nix turned to look at me and smiled but he instantly looked at the Alpha."The mate bond seems quite strong already,” the Alpha chuckled, amused by Nix's reactions when the Alpha approached me. “Relax, Nix. I mean no harm."Nix exhaled a deep sigh with a soft chuckle. "I know that in theory, but in practice, rationality simply does not enter the mind when it comes to the mate bond. I am sure you know that; I have seen you react in such a waspish manner."Mary burst out laughing. "You should have seen Kalil when he first met me, and I have to admit that Nix… you are handling it much better than he did. The mate bond is much more intense for high-ranking wolves, and with your Enforcer rank, which is designed to protect others, the mate bond will hit you quite hard because your protective tendencies are already heightened.” Mary rubbed the Alpha’s back and smiled a

Chapter 18 | Enforce
I chuckled as I dashed under a massive rose bush and continued on my way as fast as my four paws could go. Nix had to go around because of his massive wolf size. I thought it was quite amusing to choose the path that required him to take the most detours. At the very least, he was getting more exercise than if he was just running alongside me.Our leisurely run had devolved into a game of catch-me-if-you-can, and despite the fact that I hadn't stopped to hiding underneath the bushes, Nix hadn't been able to get close to me for nearly five minutes. Given that I had never been in this part of the forest before, it was a pretty impressive feat for me.But the situation was starting to irritate Nix; he could see me now but couldn't reach me. The mate bond pushed him to move faster and work harder to get to me.I used my senses to ensure that no other pack member was in our path. I didn't want anyone to come between Nix and me when the distance between us was already

Chapter 19 | Evoke
After Nix and I had our morning run, we went to the dining hall to have our first meal. People who lived in their own homes frequently made and ate breakfast at home, so those who lived in the pack house or had been out patrolling were the only ones looking for breakfast. The dining hall was occupied with large tables and chairs, it was spacious, spacious enough to accommodate almost all of the pack members in this pack house. Breakfast and lunch were more of a self-serve situation. We were too late to help with the cooking, so we grabbed a plate and filled it before heading over to a table. Nix helped me with selecting the food, well, mostly he would just put anything on my plate as long as I get full. Is he planning on making me obese? Or do I look really thin?Nix and I would smile as we passed by other pack members, Nix would wrap one of his arms around my waist if a male is close to us. We took an empty table and began to savor everything on our plate. While I was eating
