CHAPTER ELEVEN - THE AFTERMATH
JaylaI shut my locker with a slam and duck my head. I hug my books closer to my chest as I make my way out of the corridors, trying not to pay attention to the murmuring that is following me.From the corner of my eye, I notice students shamelessly pointing at me and whispering to themselves. Some give me pitiful looks, while others give me cold looks and snicker at me.I clench my books closer to me and lower my head to hide my face with my hair. More than half of our school population is werewolf, and more than ninety percent of them know all about what happened yesterday. The scene that Tyler created on my birthday, paired with what happened yesterday has stirred up gossip and has led to me becoming the center of attention of Braham High. That's just great.I am two seconds away from being a part of the Mean Girls movies . I won't be surprised if a director comes to me to take my life story as an inspiration.Everyone believes that me and Tyler did it last night, and now I am bei

CHAPTER TWELVE - MEMORIES
Jayla "I...uh..." Shane scratches his neck sheepishly as he tries to form a sentence. "You know.""No, I don't know," I say curtly, narrowing my eyes at him.He always scratches his neck when he has done something wrong. I know him.He bites his lip and looks at me with his big blue eyes. "Please don't be mad at me, Jay, but I kinda broke my promise. I just got so engrossed in training."I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose, as I remember the last day before he left."What? Today?" I paced around in his room worriedly as he threw clothes from his closet into his suitcase. "What do you mean by you are leaving today?"Shane ignored me and continued packing hurriedly."What about school? You haven't completed senior year yet. It's just a matter of eight months! Complete it, get your diploma and then go. What's the hurry?" I queried. The fact that Shane was talking about leaving right then, scared me and all I could think about was how he would manage. He needed to complete high school

CHAPTER THIRTEEN - A DIFFERENT TYPE OF PASSION
JaylaTyler's blunt question catches me off guard. Should I tell him the truth? I decide to take another approach.I take a deep breath and nod my head confidently. "Obviously, I regret it. Infact, I'm glad you stopped. I'm glad that we didn't end up mating because I would have regretted it a lot this morning."Tyler growls at my bluntness and he pins me against the table by placing both of his arms on either of my sides. His eyes turn black, telling me his wolf is trying to take control. He is filled with nothing but rage and his jaw ticks in fury."Oh, really?" he grits out. "You regret it, huh?"I nod, my eyes challenging him. I am doing this deliberately. I want to get a reaction out of him. It gives me some sort of sadistic joy in knowing I can affect him like this."So you're telling me that if I do this," he says, leaning in to brush his lips against mine, "that you will stop me?"I gasp and my heart starts thudding fast when l feel his lips against mine. Even though he barely

CHAPTER FOURTEEN - HIS BETRAYAL
JaylaMy eyes look at Tyler questioningly as I watch his entire expression fall. I give him an expectant look but he looks away. "Which rumor are you talking about?" he asks.I purse my lips and give him a blank stare. "You know which rumor I am talking about." He shakes his head and I sigh. "The rumor that says that you and I slept together last night," I tell him in a slow voice- the type of voice you use to explain something to a kindergartener. His jaw clenches and he narrows his eyes at me. "What is wrong with that rumor anyway?"My eyes widen and I gasp, so shocked that he could say that. "What do you mean by 'what is wrong with that rumor'? Everything is wrong with that rumor!" I say, my temper beginning to flare. He crosses his arms across his chest and replies coolly. "Oh, yeah. I don't see anything wrong in people thinking that I'm in an intimate relationship with my mate."Okay, what the actual hell? Why the hell is he defending that goddamn rumor, and the person who sprea

CHAPTER FIFTEEN - AN APOLOGY
Jayla"What are you doing here?" I ask him in a shocked voice."I had the keys!" he says with a goofy grin on his face and I sigh."Seriously, Shane, you need to return the spare keys to me. You've had them for years!"He jiggles the keys between his hands for a while before grinning at me, and then he hops on his feet and runs out of the room."How 'bout no?" his voice calls from the hall and I know what it means. It means war! With an animalistic cry, I follow behind him and sprint, trying to catch up with his Gamma speed, which, by the way, is almost impossible."Wait till I catch you!" I tell him, trying to climb over the couch and grab him.He laughs and waves the keys in front of my eyes. "I'll have to wait forever!"I lunge at him from across the couch, but he dodges at the last moment, making me land on the carpet with a thud."Ouch!" I groan out as my butt comes in contact with the floor. There is an awkward moment of silence for a while and Shane stares unblinkingly at me fr

JaylaI don't realize that I had dozed off until I feel a tingling sensation on my face, waking me up from slumber. It is a soft touch. It's warm too. CHAPTER SEVENTEEN - UNDERSTANDING
JaylaHe apologized, and he gave an explanation. I should be satisfied and I should forgive him because his explanation sounds valid enough, but for some reason, I just can't bring myself to do that. Something in me isn't ready to forgive him yet and somewhere in my heart I know I can forgive him, but I can't forget. I can never forget how belittled and hurt I felt.I take my hand out of his grip and disentangle our fingers. I put my hands on my lap and start fiddling with them."Tyler," I say. "Look, I get your explanation. I get why you did it but I feel like I have given you too many chances." I pause for a while to gather my thoughts.I continue. "I have given you a lot of chances and everytime you screw up, a part of me breaks. What you did, and why you did it- the explanation- might have eased my curiosity, but my pain is yet to be healed. I can't forgive you that easily, Tyler. I'm sorry."I look out of the window and sigh. I know I am being difficult but I don't want to give h

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN - PEACE
Jayla"Chase." I whisper the name of my mate's wolf again and again. He howls in approval and starts moving his head against my hand which is presently stroking his fur. I smile, cup his snout with both of my hands and bring his face near mine.Chase is a beautiful wolf. Probably the most beautiful wolf I have ever met in my life. His fur is rich and soft to the touch. He is a pure black wolf. The only of other color he has on his fur is a small patch of brown behind his right ear, which is really adorable. It is like a wolf birthmark. Chase is tall. A bit taller than me even, and absolutely huge. So much that it makes me feel a bit intimidated. I wonder how my wolf would look like. I am sure she would be much smaller because I am in a lower rank than he is.His greenish-gold eyes sparkle in the moonlight and it's hard not to get lost in them. They are so icy. It's like going on a holiday to Korea and skiing in snow. It's refreshing and at the same time, enthralling. It is dark by now

CHAPTER NINETEEEN - A FRIEND
Jayla"No no," I tell her, shaking my head. "I am not agreeing on becoming Jason's date again. He's a total freak and a pervert too. The last time we went bowling, he 'accidentally' groped my ass!" I say, putting air quotes around the word, accidentally.Mom gives me a weird look. "It was probably dark, you know?""Oh please, mom. Just because he is Jane's son doesn't mean he can't be a complete asshole," I say and roll my eyes.Jane is Mom's best friend and she's a really nice person, but with questionable parenting skills apparently."Whatever," she says, brushing the topic off. "We're not talking about that. I'm not asking you to go out with him."My eyebrows shoot up again. I am getting a lot of surprises today."You remember that your father has gone out of the pack to help another pack heal a few patients, right?" she asks and I nod.She continues. "So he is saying that there are a few patients there who aren't only physically damaged, but are suffering from psychological truama

CHAPTER TWENTY - A NEW PLACE.
Jayla"We're home!" Jessica calls out as we enter the lobby of the pack house. The door is bewitched by witches. The spells make sure that only the pack members can enter this house. That, or if someone outside the pack tries to, they need the Alpha or Luna's permission."Who's with you, Jessica?" a voice calls from inside the kitchen and in a moment, Luna Sarah walks out with a tray of freshly baked cupcakes in her hands. She is wearing an apron and proudly bears a flour stain on it, which I think is mandatory if you have been baking. She looks up to see me standing next to Jessica and her eyes light up. "Jayla!" she says excitedly and comes to give me a brief hug. I smile and hug her back too.Lunas are depicted to be highly social and sweet. They are the mother of the pack and it is their job and nature to show affection toward the entire pack.Luna Sarah is no different. The only thing is that despite being all of that, she has the ability to be formal when necessary. She can be
