CHAPTER 31: A "YOU" PROBLEM
Kate raised her hand as if she was in a class and everyone’s eyes darted towards her.“What is it?” Alice quickly responded, knowing that it was a decent question coming from the ones that rarely talks.“Do we happen to have the list of the guests too?” Last time was lucky for them as they went on a masquerade ball but their faces will be out this time. She saw enough people that could have recognized them if they weren’t wearing masks and went enough parties at the last mission. Alice simply nodded and shifted scrolled the screen for what Kate asked. Meanwhile, Art was wondering why the list of guests are important for the mission.“Uhm, excuse me but why do we need to know the guests? Is there a vampire among them?” He had to ask as it seems like he’s the only one with no idea.“Just in case someone would recognize either Kate or Klaver.” Carl was the one who responded but he still doesn’t get what was happening at all. Karina clicked her tongue, knowing that Art didn’t have the s

CHAPTER 32: FUTURE WIFE
"Newspaper! Newspaper everyone." A voice resonated around the busy place in a newly founded city, around ten years from what he could remember. It was long enough for humans, but it was a fleeting moment for creatures like him. He’s been staying in the city for almost five years. It hasn’t been long since he had stayed in one place for this long. He was often stayed for two to three years, but Elijah must admit that he enjoyed the peace the city had to offer. He was a witness when the city was just starting. That time, he was still trying to find a place to settle for a moment. The peacefulness of the place drew Elijah in... until pureblood families began bugging him. He had several visits, but all of what they offered or threatened to do was rejected or ignored.Elijah approached the teenager quietly and purchased a newspaper to see how humans were dealing with vampires in the area."Thank you, good gentleman. Have a nice day!" The newspaper boy smiled gleefully and went on to offer

CHAPTER 33: LIKES OF YOU
Elijah couldn’t believe what he just heard. He looked at the woman as if she had already lost her mind, but Ethel’s expression didn’t change. She smiled, sweetly as most people would see but Elijah knew better. Her words felt like poison being rammed down his throat. He knew that Ethel only meant trouble. The other purebloods had come to him with various gifts, but never a marriage proposal. He is now convinced that they have already lost their minds for doing this."And who told you that I would marry you, or even have the slightest idea of doing so? I don’t even know you." He spoke with a cold voice. Elijah doesn’t have any bits of affection of her and will never have."You don’t, but you surely know who my clan is. The other clans wanted you dead, but mine wanted to protect you and be by your side. Isn’t it good to have a formidable alliance with you?" All of this scheme was obviously a negotiation. What he doesn’t truly understand is the urge to mix his blood with theirs. They wer

CHAPTER 34: WITHOUT LOOKING BACK
He was woken up by the thick scent of human blood. Falling asleep was merely an act of pleasure and wasn’t really needed by his body. However, it was a very human thing to do. And so he gave his body a rest. He closes his eyes and surrenders to the darkness. It was never like sleeping, which humans do, at least from what his body barely remembers from when he was still a human, but he does it anyway.Elijah’s senses started sharpening. He hasn’t fed for days, and the blood just wafting dangerously in the air is making his mouth water. He hissed, and even though he didn’t want to, his whole body did the opposite. Elijah's hands trembled, not from fear but from the thrill that his body naturally feels whenever it wants to hunt for blood. He went out and saw dead bodies right outside his house. There was no screaming or people asking for help. There were just vampires running around the place and killing everyone in plain sight."Lady Ethel ordered us to kill each one of the humans here

CHAPTER 35: I DON'T WANT TO DIE
Alice rarely feels exhausted. At least, it was rare that she admitted to herself that she was exhausted. She dropped her things on the bedside table and collapsed on the bed."Will I really die?" She asked the dumbest question she could ask while staring at the ceiling of her room. When she was younger, her mother placed glowing stars and a crescent moon in the ceilings of her room, hoping that it would help her not have any nightmares again, but it wasn’t really as simple as that. It’s not like she wanted to die. Alice refuses to believe that anyone truly wanted to. Life just simply sucks most of the time, but that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have any regrets about dying in vain. She was starting to lose hope. Alice thought she was prepared to face the vampire, that she was ready to fight, and that whether she lived or died was up to fate. But it was way different when death was already knocking at her door. Alice wanted to be courageous, but she doesn’t know how or if it was ev

CHAPTER 36: MESS IN THE BEDROOM
He was an aspiring writer, a man who was slowly making a name for himself when everyone chose not to believe in him. His work doesn’t seem to fit the norm. When everyone was seeking love through poems and novels, he was writing about fantastical worlds of the unknown. Most people around him that had read his work believes that it fits as tales told to children.Van doesn’t really mind, but he begged to disagree that it was only for children. A world different from theirs doesn’t mean that it was for children. As so he still believes that there is much more to the world.. A whole new world that humans don’t know about, creatures that may or may not look like normal humans but surely interact with humans. After all, such tales should have come from somewhere? Right?"Greetings." Van beamed as the person opened the door. He took out two of the books he was selling, one of his work and the other one he had been commissioned to sell."I was hoping I could interest you with the books I’m s

CHAPTER 37: A CUP OF COFFEE
"Why are you carrying a luggage... Do you agree to go with going with Johan?" Clarisse's question made Alice frown even more. She was here earlier than intended, and she wasn't expecting that Black Lotus would be here this early too. She was on her way to the quarters when she happened to pass by Clarisse, who was holding a cup of coffee and looked stressed as hell."Do you live here?" Alice exclaimed instead of answering her question.Clarisse heaved an exhausted sigh, "I've been busy. Shall I call Johan? He'll need to go back in a week too."She rolled her eyes. Clarisse would never give up, isn’t she?"I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to stay in the quarters for the meantime." The organization has ready quarters for trainees and hunters who wish to stay or who are far from home or do not have one. Whatever the reason, as long as they were part of the organization, they were allowed to stay. Most of the people occupying the quarters were trainees, while most hunters stay in their o

CHAPTER 38: SAME ENDING
"He bit me, and I really thought that it was my end. But then I awoke with no wounds on my neck, and he even took the time to clean up, Oh, and I believe he stole a book from me. The one I used to hit his head while he tried to bite me. And that's the reason why I’m staying here." Clarisse couldn’t answer or properly react. The pureblood’s actions kept on surprising her.He is so unpredictable!Alice’s sarcastic expression turned into a defeated look."I was really thinking of running away, just like what you planned. Maybe it would give me more time to stay alive and to find a way to stop this unending cycle of rebirth and death." She paused and smiled, "But I know his pattern. Once he found me, he could already know where I am, no matter where I go. He easily caught up to me in the past, and it he is now a flight away from me. If I ran, I’d have to run forever. I can’t, I just can’t do that again." She was starting to remember more lives that she had had in the past, but it was all

CHAPTER 39: IMAGINATION
"Now, do you still want to help me?" Alice asked the question, knowing that his answer would change. She smiled. She doesn’t feel bad or anything. Leaving wasn’t really her first option anyway. Using anyone to protect herself wasn’t part of her plan either. By the time she finishes her last mission, she will also leave the quarters, and whatever happens next will be her problem.Johan couldn’t answer. With Alice’s situation, there was nothing much they could do to help her. He doesn’t even know if anyone else would be willing to help her after the incident with their group. Clarisse became famous for being the only survivor in that massacre, but she wasn’t really proud of it, while Johan still regrets that he wasn’t there for his comrades."Don’t worry. I didn’t tell you my deepest secret to drag you into my mess. I simply told you so you wouldn’t bother me anymore, although it was on goodwill and I appreciate that still." She went out after thanking both of them and went back to the

CHAPTER 40: YOU
"Fine. I will gather some men to search the forest. But still think it was a wolf that tried attacking you. You’re lucky you managed to survive."Van’s eyes widened. He remembered that man saying that he was lucky because it wasn’t his time yet.True to the hunter’s word, he gathered men, and they quickly searched in the whole forest while Van stayed in one of the hunter’s houses."Here, eat some soup to warm your body up. You’re pale as a ghost." It was the wife of the hunter who found him. She put down a tray containing a bowl of soup and a slice of bread and two eggs. He gladly accepted the food as he could already hear his stomach rumbling since earlier.Van gave her a warm smile, "Thank you so much." he said before devouring his food. The woman’s eyes widened, "Slow down, it’s hot."Van felt the heat in his mouth but still smiled and swallowed the food, "It’s very delicious. Thank you for the food." He forced to speak and maintain his smile. He was really grateful for the hospita
