Chapter 61: What Can I Do?

MILES "Are you okay?" I heard Mandy ask from behind me. I put out the cigarette I was holding and placed it in the ash tray, fully aware that she doesn't like the scent of cigarette smoke. "Yeah," I muttered under my breath, the taste of the cigarette still lingering in my tongue. "You don't have to lie to me, you know?" she suddenly said. "You only ever smoke when you're upset." "I smoke all the time," I defended. "That's because you're upset all the time," she retorted. "But I can see the look in your eyes. You're not okay." I sighed and leaned back against the wall. "What do you want me to say, then? I can handle my feelings well, so I'm still okay." "I don't know," she shrugged her shoulders. "Tell me what you feel, at least? Mom and dad have been banished from the kingdom after what they'd schemed, so maybe you feel upset about that." I chuckled and shook my head. "Trust me—that's the least of my worries right now. I'm happy that they aren't here anymore. They never real

Chapter 62: Never Enough

SKYE I took a step to the side, still with my gaze on the two of them. I knew instantly that they knew they were mates. It was apparent in the way they looked at each other. However, they didn't acknowledge it with words—as if it was no longer needed. They were mates. No questions are needed. Matthew stood up from the couch and walked over to where she was. I was right beside her, but his gaze did not deviate toward me—not even once. "Hi," he breathlessly said, an amazed smile on his face. "Good morning," Summer greeted, still with a professional voice. "Shall we start with our discussion?" Matthew cleared his throat and took a step back. "Right," he said. "You can sit over here." He sat back down on the couch and gestured toward the spot next to him, where I originally sat. "Thank you," Summer said, sitting down next to him. It shouldn't hurt like this. It really shouldn't. Especially since he already made our relationship very clear in the beginning.

Chapter 63: Two-Faced

ENZO I waited for Keilah to come back, practically bouncing on my feet. I was really happy about everything, and the fact that I'll be marrying Keilah in less than two months was enough to keep me happy for a long time. Keilah came back after fetching a glass of water, and I immediately ran to hug her. "Baby, I missed you," I muttered into her neck. She chuckled, although it sounded a bit down. "I just drank some water, Enzo." "I know," I said, placing a kiss on her cheek. "But I still missed you." I fully faced her and stopped when I saw her eyes tinted with red. I frowned and cupped her cheeks with my hands. "What happened?" I asked. "Did you cry?" She smiled and shook her head. "No, silly," she pushed my hands away and lied down on the bed. "I'm just happy. You know how I am when I'm happy. I tend to get emotional." I sighed in relief and sat down on the bed, covering her body with a blanket. "I'm happy too, my princess. We're coming closer to being together fore

Chapter 64: Blind Burden

KEILAH "Keilah!" Skye exclaimed, snapping me out of my thoughts. I lightly shook my head and blinked my eyes open. "Hmm?" I asked. She clicked her tongue and wrapped her arm around me. "Why are you so out of it?" she asked. "I've been calling your name for the past minute." "Sorry," I apologized. "What did you say?" "We're going out to try your wedding dresses! Aren't you excited?" "Oh," I muttered under my breath. "Right. That was today." Ever since I heard the maid's conversations the other day, I have been out of my own headspace. Of course, I'm still excited about the wedding, but there's a part of my mind that's reverted back to my insecure self. "Baby!" I suddenly heard from behind me before I felt a strong pair of arms wrap around my waist. "I'm going to try out suits today," he said. I smiled and faced him. "I'm going to try some wedding dresses too." "I wanted to come with you," he said, cupping my cheeks with his hands. "I'm sure you'd look beautiful in all th

Chapter 65: Always

KEILAHI froze when I heard Enzo’s voice from behind me. I closed my eyes and bit my lips. “What are you doing here?” I asked “We came here after the suit-fitting. We weren’t far from here, and I wanted to see you so…”“You can’t be here right now,” I said in a shaky voice. “Why not, baby? I wanted to see you,” he said. “It’s forbidden for the groom to see the bride in the dress before the wedding,” I tried making up an excuse, but he wasn’t buying it.I sighed in defeat and finally faced him. “How much did you hear?” I asked in a dejected voice. “A lot, baby,” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me about these things?”“It’s just my insecurities—““Even if,” he said. “Those are valid.”“Can you leave us alone for a while, Skye?” “Yes,” Skye said. I wanted to hold onto her arm and have her stay here, but she quickly got out and left the two of us.We stayed in silence for a while, not knowing how to start the conversation. “So, how do I look?” I asked, breaking the silence.“Fucki

Chapter 66: Take the Risk

KEILAH "There is a chance for your fiance to see once again, Alpha," the doctor said, causing me to let out a sigh of relief. After a series of tests and going back and forth to the hospital for the entire week, we finally heard some good news from the doctor. We didn't tell anyone about this yet since I didn't want to make such a big fuss if the doctor ever told me that I won't ever have the chance to see again. However, hearing him say that I do have a chance made my heart beat faster in my chest. "I can see again?" I slowly asked, still processing his last statement. "Yes," he said. "It has been seen here that there is a problem with the neurons in your occipital region, probably due to trauma. And your eyes also seem to be covered by a cloudy film, which contributes to your visual impairment. If this was a few years back, we wouldn't have had the solution to your problem. However, now that new technology has been developed, we can cure your blindness through transducer e

Chapter 67: I See The Light

SKYE "Mark?" I asked, looking at him with wide eyes. He chuckled as he placed down his cleaning materials and walked toward me. "It really is you," he smiled. He still had the same innocent smile as when we were kids. It made me feel good. Out of all the atrocious things I went through when I was young, Mark was one of the few people who made it bearable. The two of us worked together when we were children—being exploited at a young age and all. He was a great friend, and we got separated when we moved away because of my father's work. "I can't believe this," he said. "You look good—really good." I smiled and shook my head, flattered at his compliment. "Well, of course," I said. "I looked like a mongrel when we were younger." "You didn't," he assured. "You looked good back then. You look happier now." "I am," I said. A lot of things have changed in my life, and all for the better. "I could say the same to you,” I said. "Yeah," he said. "After you moved away, I r

Chapter 68: Date?

SKYE“I’m finally back, bitches,” I heard someone say as the front door opened.I chuckled when I saw a familiar face.I stood up from the couch and walked toward her. “Naomi,” I said, opening my arms to greet her with a hug. “I’m glad that you’re back.”“Me too, honey,” she said. “I couldn’t enjoy my vacation at all since I was so busy worrying about the wedding.”I looked behind her and frowned. “Where are the others?”“They decided to stay,” she said. “Those bastards liked the trip so much, so they opted to complete their stay there. I’m staying here, though. I still need to meet the girl that replaced me.”“Shh,” I said and held onto her hand since Summer and Matthew were literally just sitting behind us.She frowned and turned to the side so she could see.“Is that her?” she asked with raised eyebrows. “Yeah,” I muttered under my breath. She observed her with narrowed eyes before shaking her head.“I don’t like her already.”I sighed in relief. Summer gives off a really good i

Chapter 69: Past Mate

SKYE "I don't mind," Mark said, pulling me closer to him. I clicked my tongue and gently pushed him away. "Don't listen to her, Mark. She's just spouting nonsense," I said. "But I really don't mind accompanying you to the wedding. I think it'll be fun," he said. "That is—if I'm invited to the wedding." "Of course, you are!" Naomi exclaimed. "Any good friend of Skye's is our friend too." "Don't you think you need to consult this with Keilah and Enzo?" Matthew asked. Naomi clicked her tongue. "Oh, don't be ridiculous. I'm the wedding planner," she said. Summer cleared her throat. "The final guest list has already been decided," she said. "And who decided that?" Naomi raised her eyebrows. Summer smiled. "Me. After all, I am the wedding planner that Queen Noelle had hired. If Skye wants a date, then she could find someone from the guest list." "Fine," Naomi smirked. "How about Matthew, then?" she asked in a cheeky voice. "Would it be alright if you took Skye to the weddi

Chapter 70: Cleared Up and Knocked Down

KEILAH I felt my heart drop. I already had my suspicions—back when I met Miles once again. He didn't deny it nor confirm it, so I was already preparing myself in case he had already met his mate. I tilted my head to the side in confusion. "Had?" I asked. "Yes," he muttered under his breath. "I had a mate. I hope you're not mad that I didn't tell you right away." Of course, I'm disappointed that he didn't tell me about his mate, but I was more curious about what he meant by he "had" a mate."Where is she right now?" I asked. He let out a deep sigh. "She's not here anymore." I frowned. "She died," he added, causing me to let out a small gasp. "Enzo," I softly said his name. "It's okay," he said. "I'm really okay now. I wasn't for a long time, but everything changed when I met you. I thought I couldn't love another person as much as I loved her, but then you came. You changed everything for me." I held onto his hand and gave it a tight squeeze, all the disappointmen
