Thunder shook the walls of the pack house and it startled me awake. Looking around, my entire room was dark. Reaching and grabbing my phone from the nightstand, it showed 2 a.m. My brow furrowed and slowly pushed myself up in bed.First, I tried turning on my light, but after a couple of flicks, I realized the power was out. Placing my foot on the floor, I pushed up. It wasn’t steady, but I could stand without holding onto anything for a little while. Reaching out, I used the wall to help take the three steps to the window. Grabbing the curtain and swinging it open, it was like a damn hurricane had blown in while I was asleep.Looking down at the driveway, Sam’s car and Silas’ truck were gone. Charles’ car sat in the driveway, though. I turned just as my door opened. Charles stepped in, surprised registering on his face.“You’re awake.”“What the hell is going on outside? I feel like this is way worse than t

I would have been boiling, maybe even to the point of screaming at him if I wasn’t so damn tired of this. It was like we got to a good point. Something manageable. We might have become friends again. Even something more tender than that. Despite him looking like he was struggling to find fault in everything I did. Now, it was like all that flew out the window. His ability to hold back the anger went out the window the moment Shep said that this could be the final straw. Whatever hopes or thoughts for me being normal by his side seemingly died, and so did his patience for me.“You did this!”“Of course I did! What was I supposed to do, Silas? Leave him under the tree? He is mated to a leadership werewolf. He can heal. If he lost too much blood, we would have lost him.”Silas was fuming in my doorway. He didn’t even bother coming in at this point. His whole body filled up the space, making sure that no o

My eyes narrowed as I glared down at the ground. Aelia would tear me to pieces for even being like this. I could see her now, standing in front of us with her hands on her hips as she looked at the mess. Looking back at me, not even saying anything. Her face would say it all. Ask me what I was going to do about it.Noah held out a cane to me. Taking it, I ran my hands along the twisted wood in the center. It was an oak cane with a darker oak handle. In the handle was the embedded emblem of the First Alpha Prince, the same that flew on the banners and flags of Aelia’s army.My hands tightened around it. She used this one when she was struggling to walk some days. Her real leg would give out on her and she would need something to help, since her other leg was fully magic.Holding it in my right hand, I set it down and pulled myself up out of the wheelchair. It felt weird, but I took a deep breath before taking a step. I still felt like a newborn deer, but I

Putting a bite of rice in my mouth, I chewed as I looked over the plans for the pack house. It had been my most recent project. While I had the old plans for the pack house, I thought it could use a bit of upgrading. Then I just threw that out the window and was starting from scratch. It was more fun that way and I could tailor our pack house to our needs. My front door slammed opened, and I leaned back in my chair, looking down at the hall. The door slammed shut again, and I rolled my eyes as Silas stormed in. It was the first time I had seen him since the hospital. That had been roughly about six weeks ago. Not once did I run into him, hear him through the mind link, or see him when I spent time out on the balcony.“What the hell did you do?”I set my spoon down in the bowl. “You’re going to have to be more specific than that, Silas. I do a lot of things during the day.”He snorted. “You nearly ruined the guest I had

Pushing myself up using the wall, I shook my head. “Liar! You knew. What did you think that magic would do? Did you think it would make you stronger?”“It has made me stronger!” Silas got up with the help of the table as he wiped the corner of mouth where blood was trickling down from.“No! It’s made you alone! You are all alone on this self-proclaimed Alpha island! No one is backing you up now, Silas. No one is going to be there to help you. You can’t defeat enemies alone.”He stomped up to me and grabbed my shirt. “Watch me. I am stronger than I ever was before.”“And you will die the moment I die. The moment that fucking magic destroys our bond, you get to die right alone with me. It’s that fun. You stupid fuck.”“I did what I had to. You believe in all that Aelia, Finn and Noah spew, that’s on you.”I let out a hollow chuckle. “So even i
