Kian I stood among my family, my posture rigid as I tried to maintain my composure. The engagement ceremony was in full swing. I could not believe that Grandfather’s idea was actually materializing. There was nothing I had not done to change his mind in the last two months. I had weeded out a majority of our opponents and secured more deals for us, all in the bid to make him change his mind. But he remained adamant on the engagement. Nothing was going to make him change his mind. I forced myself to smile as the guests flickered around to offer their congratulations to me. I had been in this game for far too long to know that half of them were not genuine. The was always a threat laced beneath each one of them. But the facade had to be kept on. I gulped down the remnants of my glass which I had lost count of in frustration. “Chill man.”, Darryl said eyeing my empty glass. “The ceremony hasn’t even started.” “I don’t give a damn about the ceremony.” “I know you don’t but at l

Chapter 14KIAN“I can't believe this old man set me up!” “Calm down, Kian. It's just a wedding store, not some minefield.” Daryl facepalmed with a sigh and whispered behind my ears, “You're scaring the poor shopkeepers. You might want to think twice about pulling this off in the public….you never know which camera is on.”The hell I cared about paparazzi or the media now.I'm pretty sure they didn't care about me either, so why should I!I frowned and turned around to see that a woman was hurdled up with two other women in the corner, her lips trembling as she tried to voice out what sounded like a plea.I let out a scoff under my breath and adjusted the touch of my suit as I walked to the counter. “Who’s the one in charge here?”“I-I am, sir.” The blondie that had her lips shaking rose her hands in the air and forced a smile that seemed like she really didn't want to be there.Well, I was glad that the feeling was somewhat mutual. At least someone knew when to keep her down and not

CHAPTER 16ANYA“Why aren't you eating, Anya?” Dad's voice boomed across the table, making me grip the fork in my hands even tighter.Because I can't help but wonder why you had to throw me in the very mess that you created dad!“I'm not hungry…” I mumbled, trying to keep my voice steady but the crack at the end gave it away.“This is the third time today. What tantrum are you trying to throw, Anya?” He asked, his eyes narrowed down into a daring glare as I lifted my eyes to answer him.But mum was quick to beat me to it…like always.“I remember Anya doesn't like having meatballs in her meals.” Mum cuts in with a smile, drawing dad's awareness to the stabbed marks in the ones on my plate. He frowned, clearly not happy with my picky habits. “That will have to change this instant because the Silvas are known for their high tastes in Italian foods, especially ones like these. We wouldn't want to cause a stir for them now, would we?”A stir? Was that all I was to them?A scandal?“But the

KIAN An awkward silence hung over the table we were all seated at. Darryl was at my side, probably praying deep down in his mind for this to quickly come to an end, considering that his eyes had been glued to his phone the entire minutes we'd been here.As for me, my fingers drummed against the smooth surface before me, quietly counting the numbers thirty backwards to calm down my nerves, and when it finally hit zero, I struck the last drumming a little louder than the usual rhythm, drawing all four pairs of eyes towards my direction.“So, no one's going to seriously talk about how the fuck I'm suddenly having a wedding tomorrow?”Grandfather flashed me an immediate glare from his high seat, but I was too angry to care this time. My whole future was being bargained on a fucking table here.“Mr. Moretti.” My grandfather called out, making me refocus my glare to the man who'd been suspiciously quiet for the past twenty minutes now—almost as if he was on the edge for making something g

CHAPTER 20KIAN“Kian!” Darryl exclaimed to warn me but I was too pissed now to care anymore.I lunged for his neck immediately, successfully catching him off guard and slashed his left leg, making him groan in pain, but just when I was about to go for his face, a quick blow neutralised my action, sending me backwards.“You've got some nerves, dear brother.” He spat out, his usual playful demeanor was now gone, and his real colours were now exposed.“Don't you dare fucking call me that, or I'll rip out your fucking tongue.” I warned, my blade still dripping with his blood and I glared at his scoffing figure. “You fucking lost privileges to that title.”“How touchè, I’m only here to pass a message to you and your little wife.” He smirked. “Seems like your wife has already taken a liking to me given that she just got into a deal with me.”Don't listen to him, Kian. You know how fucking psycho he is, he's always getting into people's heads.“Fuck you and your deals.” I snapped and threw
