ELENA'S POVI looked at the time as I woke up, groggy. It was 5:30 am. Still early, but then I remembered my plan as I tried to get up. Suddenly, I heard the thumping of shoes on the hardwood floor of the staircase. It was Damien getting down to his indoor gym. I quickly hid well on the couch, careful not to get caught. He didn't seem to notice, and soon the door to the gym door closed behind him.Sure that he was inside and wasn't coming out any time soon, I quietly tiptoed to the kitchen, opening the fridge and getting out the frozen spice jars. I returned them to the drawers from which I got them. For extra effects, I turned on the sink tap, knowing by morning the whole kitchen would be flooded, and stealthily returned back to the couch. Lying back down, no sooner had I placed my head on the headrest than I dozed off.Waking up again, to the bright rays coming into the living room. It was almost 8 am and I yawned, getting up to stretch when I spotted Damien head towards the kitchen

DAMIEN’S POV They discussed some more, talking about other things. But I’ve heard everything I needed to. It was funny, their plan to ruin me was cute. They just don’t know what they’re up against. I got to my feet, leaving the restaurant. I called up Hilda as I returned to the office. “Clear out the rest of my schedule for today. I have something important I have to deal with.” “Wife trouble?” I rolled my eyes. “No, Hilda. Just clear it.” “Okay, sure thing.” Now, on to the next step in my plan. I scrolled through my contact list as I drove out of the office, stopping on one of my fixer’s numbers. He was the best in the city, and just the guy for the job at hand. I dialed him and he picked up at the third ring. “To what do I owe this pleasure of speaking with the unstoppable Damien Vance?” He said, and I could hear the smile in his tone. Dexter ‘Dex’ Harper was a good friend of mine and my partner back when I was into underground street fights. He fought for the money a

DAMIEN'S POVI walked back to the car with Dex in tow. "This wasn't in the plan," he was ranting. "Why the fuck did you kill him?"I stopped. "I didn't like his face?" I said, throwing it out like a question. He scoffed, genuinely shocked. "What the hell is wrong with you, man? You killed him because you don't like his face. You've got to give me something better than that.""He knew the killers, and he didn't do anything to stop them. He even went ahead to help them for many years. He even killed Lucia Garner, who was innocent in all of this. All because she saw the murder happen. Had been tailing her all those times to make sure she didn't speak. And when she did... And you're telling me I shouldn't have shot him?"He backed away this time, accepting defeat. "I'm just worried about you, man," he said.I got into the car, and he joined me. "The boys will take care of him, right?" I asked him and he nodded. "Yeah, I left my car to bring them back after finishing the job.""Thank you,

ELENA'S POVMy face blanched, devoid of all color at his statement. Even if the words weren't as menacing as they sounded, the look that came with it was even scarier. Bland and placid, yet deadly. And ice cold, it made hell freeze over. Don't think you wanna know. You may not live to tell the story. He definitely killed someone. How often did he do that? Does he pull out a Glock every time things don't go his way? I gulped, getting up as well, suddenly feeling claustrophobic being in the same room with this man. I have to get far away from here. I began walking away when a hand grabbed my arm, causing me to jump, yelping in fear. I turned to see Damien already behind me, his hand holding on to my arm. He suddenly looked menacing, not someone I should ever think of messing with."We're still talking," he said, his voice still placid and bland, but the longer I was in his immediate line of sight, the faster my heart beat from petrification.I forced myself to blink and my lips to form

ELENA'S POVI sat in the car in uncomfortable silence as we drove to work. My mind was itching with questions to ask, about what my job was and what exactly I'd be doing. I didn't have much experience, as I had just taken over the company before I was wrongfully accused and jailed. But despite all the questions in my head, I couldn't bring myself to ask. He'd already pissed me off this morning by asking me to change. I knew for sure he just wanted to control me, even to the littlest detail, but I won't let him get the best of me. The new outfit, a blue office couture I had changed into, was more fitted, more cinched than the last, but he didn't seem to notice, or mind at all.As we reached the towering building that was Vance Industries, a valet came for the car and waited for us to get off. A group of men sighted us and bowed, although some of them had their gaze on me lingering longer than usual. I heard a soft growl beside me, and I turned to see Damien staring menacingly at the me
