ISLA~•~My mind worked on autopilot as I went upstairs, packed the little essentials I brought with me into a duffel bag, and returned downstairs. Lorenzo was sitting on the couch in the living room, sipping a glass of wine and watching me. I pretended I couldn’t see him. I had made up my mind. At first, I wanted to stay until I was done with school before I left, but what was the point of finishing school if I could end up dead before I graduated? Who knew how many more women thought they would end up with Lorenzo? ISLA ~•~ I had a hard time sleeping the previous night but the morning after was a lot better, especially now that I had figured out what to do. I stumbled out of the motel, the sun just starting to rise. The streets were quiet. While I was still doubting Lorenzo last night, I didn’t care about him anymore. I had decided to leave the city first before I thought of what to do next. That way, I wouldn’t be under Lorenzo’s thumb anymore. He wouldn’t be able to threaten me if he couldn’t see me, could he? I finally felt… free. My thoughts wandered to life beyond this city. I could find a small apartment, and search for a job no matter how little it paid. I still had money from my allowance. I could survive on that for a long while. I wouldn’t have to watch my back like I was doing at the motel. I wouldn’t have to worry about being locked up in someone else’s house. ISLA ~•~ “Are you going to hand her over or should I come take her myself?” Lorenzo’s voice slid through the warehouse when no one made a move. He hadn’t yelled but the weight of his voice pressed down on the three men surrounding me. They froze. For a moment, nobody moved. The only sound was a faint drip of water somewhere around the warehouse. The men exchanged glances. Their eyes darted between each other, then to me, most likely wondering if I was worth the trouble. They looked at Lorenzo again, but he was still standing at the entrance, one hand loose by his side, while the other rested in his pocket as though three guns pointed at him were nothing short of an inconvenience. He didn’t have a weapon, at least, none that I could see. No reinforcements. He was one person. There were three yet he didn’t feel threatened.
