LAURA'S POV Liam’s thumb rubs against the side of his phone, the dead screen reflecting a thin, gray streak of light from the window. His leg starts to tap incessantly, a tic I’ve only noticed him do when he’s nervous. “Liam,” I whisper, “what do we do now?”He exhales sharply, “We wait. I'll charge the phone now, maybe she’ll call back.”Before I can respond, Martha’s voice floats from the hallway, startling us both. “Everything all right in here?”Liam straightens instantly, forcing a calm smile. “Yeah, Martha. Just a small power issue. We’re fine.”She studies us for a beat, suspicion flickering across her wrinkled face. Then she nods. “I’ll set up a room upstairs. You both look like you haven’t slept in days.”As her footsteps fade down the corridor, Liam sinks into the couch, elbows on his knees. The moment the air settles again, I crouch beside him and lower my voice.“Baby I have to tell you something.”

LAURA'S POV We hear the shuffle of boots in the gravel, stripping the air of the false calm the evening breeze brought. Liam's hand tightens on mine and for a second I think I might levitate out of fear. What if things don't go as we've planned? Lurking in the shrubs around us are ten of the best, highly trained policemen in Atlanta, standing on guard to apprehend that old hag. NERIAH'S POVThe silver rays of moonlight cast its glow on me while I sit on the floor of Denver’s study, surrounded by files, old receipts, and several other documents. My laptop glows in the dim light, documents scattered in every space on the ground. DENVER'S POV Every time she gets into one of the cars for her antenatal appointment, I remember that I'm going to be a father. At first I wanted to accompany her myself but she said her friend Lucy works at the hospital so she doesn't mind taking the opportunity to hang out with her. That doesn't do anything to ease the tightness in my chest, not from anger or jealousy, but from anxiety. Nothing must happen to her. And this is the reason I can never forgive Liam.
