Chapter 08.

A MISUNDERSTANDING.

Clary's POV.

“It's not what you think, Mrs Williams.” I said, shaking my head. “You are getting it all wrong.”

“Oh, really?” she said, narrowing her gaze at the words. “What am I getting wrong here? Or have I suddenly gone blind that I don't know what's going on right now? You're leaving, Clary. And that's it. You just shut the door and the young man standing beside the car over there has just put your bag in the trunk of the car. So, what exactly am I getting wrong.”

“There's a situation right now.” I said, without an idea of how to help her understand what was going on. “However, that's all I can say to you right now. You need to understand me, Mrs Williams. I'm not trying to run away.”

“But that's exactly what it seems like you're trying to do right now.” she said, her voice rising to a scream. “Else why would you tell me you would pay up your rent by Saturday. You knew that it wasn't possible. All you wanted was for me to leave so that you can ru

What business do you have with him?” “I am so sorry, Colin.” she said, with an apologetic look in her eyes. “I didn't mean to, but I had no choice.” “Are you kidding me right now?” he asked, blinking his eyes rapidly in confusion. “What do you mean by you had no choice? Did he threaten you to do this? How much did he offer?” “Excuse me,” — the man called, raising a hand as he brought our attention to him. “I have a name and would really appreciate it if you call me by my name. It's Dawson, alright? Dawson.” “I don't care who you are.” Colin said, with an edge to his voice. “I am going to address you the way I want. Besides, I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to her.” “Well, don't say I didn't warn you.” Dawson said, cocking the rifle in his grip as the smile on his lips took a deeper curve. “I don't know who exactly, but one

Carly's POV.“Can you just stop giving me that look already, huh?” Reggie said, a frown creased his forehead as he dropped the wooden box on the table and turned to face me. “You have been looking at me that way for only heaven knows how long.” “Really?” I asked, jerking my head back slightly. “You want me to stop looking at you this way? How am exactly am I looking at you? Besides, do you even realize what you've done?” “Oh, so this is about the men I killed, right?” he asked, raising a brow. “Of course, it is.” I said, speaking through my teeth. “You shouldn't have killed them the way you did.”“It was either them or us.” he said, pointing a finger at himself. “If I hadn't killed them, then they would have killed us instead.” “You have only made matters worse, Reggie.” I said, shaking his head. “This is only going to cause more trouble for us. Do you think the government will just sit back and watch as you have murdered two dozen soldiers?” “I don't e

What would we tell them that we're doing here, huh?”“I get it, alright.” I said, in a soft voice as I looked into his eyes. “However, they are only going to get more suspicious that something is going on if you refuse to open the door for them.” “I think I prefer that option over opening the door for them.” he said, gripping the headrest of the chair which he was sitting on as he dropped his arm. “I won't have anyone of them set their foot in here.” “So are you just going to keep them waiting outside, is that the plan?” I asked, raising a brow. “You heard him right, if you don't open that door in the next few seconds, he's going to ask his men to bring it down. Is that what you want? Or does it sound like a better option to you?” “We should have just take

Chapter 12.ONCE UPON A TIME.Clary's POV.“What are you going to do with that?” I asked, glancing at Reggie as he gripped a crow bar. His back was turned to me. Perhaps, he was contemplating on whether to use it or not. I know he didn't ask, and by the look of things, it was obvious that he won't. Still, if he wanted my penny worth of advice, then I'd tell him to drop it. If anything, he's got every weapon he needs in his head. So, why does he need to take a physical one? “What do you think?” he said, turning to face me as if he'd made a decision.Watching him walk towards the door, I needed no one to tell me what decision to took: he had made up his mind to use the crow bar on whoever was behind the door.“Hey,” I called, gripping his arm as he was just about to walk past me. “Are you sure you want to do this right now?” “Of course, I am.” he said, in a low voice. “We don't know who is behind that door. It could be anyone. It could even be the government military. Right now, this

Or what was it you said? However, from what I saw back there, I think it's quite different.” “Hey look, I know what you must be thinking right now.” he said, moving the pan over the fire from the cooker. “However, it's just like I said; I don't practice anymore. I just know a few spells to keep myself safe.” “That's what you keep saying.” I said, using a measured tone as I slammed a hand on the table. “To me, it feels like you're using that as an excuse. For goodness’ sake, I almost lost my life back there.” I pointed a finger towards the door.“I mean, if you knew that you were going to do something like that, don't you think you should have told me about it beforehand?” I added, dropping my arm. “Y

Chapter 10.FAITH AND FEAR.Clary's POV.“Where are we going?” I asked, the sound of dead leaves crumpling under my boots as I followed behind Reggie. “We have been walking for the past ten minutes, yet it doesn't seem like we've made any progress.” “Just a little more.” he paused, turning back to face me. “We will soon arrive.” “Alright then, just a little more.” I said, exhaling sharply as I swept my eyes all over the place. “I just hope we don't eventually lose our way.” “Have some faith; we won't.” he said, with a shrug of his shoulder. “I know this woods like the back of my palms because I've been here longer than you think.” “Well, it doesn't matter. The sun's down; we need to find some place to rest.” I said, watching my steps. “We don't know what could be out there. The last thing I would want is to leave my home only to end up dead here.” “No one is going to end up dead, Clary.” he paused, and turned to face me again as he shook his head. “Well, at least not today.” “Mo
