Cassian did end up letting me go out and train after Max, Lily, and Barry left.Right now, he was at the pack house with Max, doing Alpha things, and since the training session was over, I was stuck at home, my bodyguard staring at me like she was scared I was going to disappear. That's right. You heard it right. Cassian assigned me a bodyguard. Ridiculous, right? Her name was Vanya, and she was one of the pack warriors. Apparently one of the best too. I wondered how she felt about being called away from her duties and told to watch me. She wasn't very talkative, and had a bit of a resting bitch face, so I felt a bit out of my depth trying to talk with her. She sparred with me for a few hours and actually taught me some new things, but now that our sparring session was over, we were both just sitting and staring at each other across the kitchen table. "Um... So, do you want something to drink?" I asked her."No," she replied. "Thank you." Er... "What about food? Do you want f

I'd never run so fast in my life. I sprinted across the bushes, leaping over obstacles in my path as I made for Red Moon, my heart pounding. I was still in my wolf form, and my emotions were even more heightened. Iris was hurt. I knew I shouldn't have let her leave. I shouldn't have let her put herself in danger. It was careless, careless of me. I increased my pace, pushing the soldiers with me to run harder. I reached out to Lily through the mindlink. "Alpha!" "Where's Iris?" I growled out. "Here," Lily replied. "Unconscious. But safe." My growl deepened. Safe! How safe could she be if she was unconscious? "What happened?" I questioned. "If any of those Red Moon fuckers hurt her, I'll—" "It's not one of them," Lily cut in. "Then who? And where's the bastard now?" "Maybe it's better if you come see for yourself, Alpha," she replied softly. I shut off the mindlink angrily and forced another burst of speed out of myself. Red Moon was quiet and looked deserted when

Victory was heady, and I almost forgot about my sister still kneeling on the ground before me, the same as her — my — pack members. "Rise," I ordered more calmly than I felt. As they did, Lily stepped forward with a grin, and hugged me. "Congratulations, Alpha," she said. The title had my smile widening, and when she stepped back, Vanya stepped forward too. For a second I thought she was going to hug me too, but just as I realized how weird that would be, she handed me a folded piece of clothing. As I pulled the robe on, she and Kelvin extended their congratulations too, and slowly, the rest of our small group arrived at the pack square. I glanced at Julietta who was still clutching at her arm and whimpering pitifully, her head bowed. "Take her away," I said to Vanya who nodded, and hauled her up not so gently. I turned to the remaining pack members who still stood in place, like they were unsure of what to do. I was unsure of what to do too. I wanted to open the mi

Julietta cackled. "What's yours? What exactly is that? Did your little Alpha toss you aside after he finished using you? Did he send you away? Is that why you came crawling back?" She was standing on the podium, making no effort to.walk towards me, so I remained where I stood, gazing at her evenly. Once upon a time, I wanted us to be close. I yearned for that sisterly bond between us, somehow deluding myself that if that happened, Hugo and my mother would treat me better. I was a fool. By now, the pack members left in the pack had gathered in the square, watching us with whispers. "Are you really that stupid, Julietta?" I asked softly. "Because of your misplaced desire for revenge, did you really send your pack members off to die?" She laughed. "Die! Whatever gave you that idea? I sent them to drag a murderous traitor back, but you've saved us the trouble, I see. That's just as well. I wouldn't mind seeing the Bloody Prince fall after everything he's done." I laughed too. "You

I woke up with a pounding headache and a temperature that felt like it was just a few degrees from a high fever. I felt for Althea and was relieved when I could feel her presence faintly. She was awake, but weak. The next thing I noticed was the scent of my mate, and the electric feeling of his skin against mine. Cassian was laying underneath me. I stirred and opened my eyes quickly, wanting to see him. His arm across my waist tightened slightly, and he stirred too. "Iris?" I smiled as I looked up at him, my vision still slightly hazy. He looked worried and tired, his hair sticking up in all directions and dark bags beginning to form beneath his eyes. "Hey," I greeted softly. Without a word, Cassian crushed me to his chest once more, hugging me tightly. His heartbeat was a little fast, as if he hadn't yet let go of whatever panic he felt. "Don't ever do that again," he told me after a while through our mindlink. The fighting for my pack part or the getting poisoned part, I wa
