Cassian came home earlier than usual, just when I was about to go walk around the pack a bit, and maybe check on Barry at the hospital. Now that I was out of heat, I had nothing but time on my hands. I had to figure out a way to completely heal Barry's hand, and break the curse on Althea. I also had to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with my life, especially concerning Julietta and Red Moon Pack. But since thinking about those things in particular made me irrationally angry, I decided to put it off for as long as I could. That day, after breakfast, I took the satchel containing the broken urn, and made Cassian take me to the library inside the pack house. It was a huge, quiet room with rows and rows of books. At the very back, there were some old scrolls, and more books that looked like they might be restricted. Another day wasted in the library. If I was human, my back would have ached from being bent over a pile of books for hours. As it was, I only felt hungry, having once again skipped lunch. At least today, it wasn't yet completely dark. If I was lucky, I would beat Cassian home. Maybe I could even have another go at trying to make us dinner. Remembering how my last attempt had gone, I shuddered a bit. I didn't really want Cassian to be subjected to another round of my bad cooking, or have to eat sandwiches to bed, but what else could I make. I could do eggs, but who wanted to eat eggs for dinner? Unlike yesterday, I was taking the long way home, so I was walking on what I'd come to see as Main Street. I was like a child who had gotten an unexpected present. Throughout the night, I kept leaving my bed to go peek inside the box of art supplies, as if I was scared they would disappear by morning. But morning came, and the box still sat in the corner of my room. I smiled. I hadn't been sure that I wanted to return to painting, but somehow, this was the push I needed. Knowing Cassian had gone out of his way to get me those supplies when he didn't have to... If I dragged my feet any longer, I'd be an even bigger coward. Not to mention ungrateful. We must have run for hours. Time seemed to slow down. There was no way I could describe the feeling of being so in tune with Wrath and Cassian that our steps seemed to be in tune with each other. I was almost as big as him, and definitely as fast. We raced each other. Sometimes, he was a few steps ahead of me, and sometimes I was a few steps ahead of him. We might have done a full circuit around the pack, or even more, at full speed, before we began to slow down. I don't know when I noticed it, but suddenly, the forest felt a bit too quiet for me. I glanced around, having a sense of being watched. Wrath didn't seem to think anything was wrong. We'd slowed into a brisk trot by now, so the chances of racing by whoever was making me feel this way, was smaller.
