Maddy’s POV By the time I found Max, my heart was broken and I was too distracted to pay attention. He gave me a brief side-hug. “Hey, you look glum. Jesus, is the race making you nervous too?” he asked. I tried to put on a brave face for him. He needed this win tonight. He had worked too much just to let it all go to waste.
