Maddy’s POV Seeing Max, I pushed Aston away. Max’s eyes narrowed as they transfixed on us. Furiously. They darted from Aston to me and back again. Like he was trying to make sense of the scene in front of him. I saw his jaws flex, his fists ball a little.Aston adjusted himself, flexing his shoulders as if to shrug away all the sadness he had been feeling. I felt terrible. He was being vulnerable with me. The way he fell into my arms like they were the only thing he needed in the world to bring him comfort, he had not been like that with me before. “What’s going on?” Max asked suspiciously. “It’s nothing. Sorry, I have to go,” Aston said. He ran off before we could exchange another set of words. Max and I stood there, watching him run off back to the party. Then, Max’s eyes landed on me suspiciously. “Is he okay?” Max asked. I shrugged. “I don’t know. He was being weird. I don’t know what happened.” Max’s eyes searched my face. I kept my face blank. Unreadable. I

Aston’s POV Blood spurted from my nostrils where Max’s fists connected with my nose. The punch had been unexpected. It threw me back a little. I only had a second to recover before Max charged at me again. “You fucking asshole!!!” he screamed. I caught him by the arms before he could hit me. We tussled, falling into the rose bushes outside. We tumbled, throwing punches. He caught me on the nose; I hit him in the eye. I could hear screams from the spectators nearby. My father’s party guests were screaming at us to stop fighting. I had no idea why he would charge at me but he found me in the wrong mood. I had been looking for something to punch. Him especially. The sounds tore through the air. My blows on him; his blows on me. I didn’t want to let go. He didn’t want to let go. We were two stubborn beasts tearing through the compound, destroying everything in our paths. It didn’t take long before the fight spread to our club members: the outlaws against the Ryders. My father’s par

~Maddy’s POV~Max is done with you, those words rang loudly in my head. He sounded irritated when he said, but also mildly relieved and almost happy. That proud arrogance of his had returned. Like he knew this was always going to be the end game for me and Max. I would be relieved if I was actually happy about it. This was the worst possible time for Max to decide to end things for us. What about Mr. Chadwick’s threats? What about my father? His career too? “Excuse me?” I asked in disbelief. Aston observed me, his head slightly tilted to the side like he’s trying to read my reaction to his words. “I’m sorry, Maddy, I didn’t want to be the one to tell you but I was in that cell with him and he doesn’t even want to see you.” I backed away from him. From all of them, shielding myself from the confusion and pain that was hitting me all over.“I don’t believe you. I want to see him,” I said declaratively. Aston shook his head. He threw his hands in the air, glancing around.

Aston’s POV Her words hit me like a fucking bomb! “What? You didn’t break up with her, Max!” I raged. It wasn’t enough that we had fought. I wanted to slam his face into the fucking ground again. Max merely shrugged. The arrogant bastard. I think he derived so much pleasure in being a fucking stumbling block in my path. “You said…back in the cell, you said all those things,” I accused him. Turning to Maddy, I tried to convince her. “Maddy, he was saying all sorts of things to me in the cell. I swear I’m not making this up. He doesn’t love you. He’s never loved you ever!” Maddy’s expression was difficult to read which made it harder for me to decipher what she wanted. Why was she suddenly so cold toward me? After everything we’d been through? “What can I say, Aston? Maddy’s the love of my life. I just can’t let her go!” Max said so casually with a brush of his shoulders. I could see right through him. Why couldn’t Maddy? Why the fuck was she clinging so hard to this fuck

Maddy’s POV The racing tracks felt like familiar, almost holy grounds. It was the middle of the night illuminated by streetlights and bright lights from the bikes on the tracks. The crowd tonight was insane. The entire town had descended here to watch the race. The biggest race of the year. Tonight was the night of the state championship race. The only race Max, Aston and everyone wannabe biker in town had been preparing for. The winner gets to leave town for the wonderful opportunities waiting for them at the nationals. Max had been nervous about it all week long. As I moved through the crowd, I was confronted by the loud buzz of engines roaring, the thick smoke that curled into the air as bikes zoomed past me. The smell of engine oil was dense, disrupting my nostrils. Danger was in the air. I could smell it, too. Everywhere I walked, I saw an affiliated biker: Ryders, Outlaws, Vandals, Slashers and Devils. In their jackets, they all looked like different degrees of int
