CHARLOTTE~•~I understood why people loved galas.I also understood why people hated them. The flashing cameras were blinding. Reporters screamed questions over one another, security guards guided celebrities through the carpet while designers, actors, producers, athletes, influencers, and billionaires idled around, waiting for their turns. It was glamorous, but it was also very exhausting.Don’t get me wrong. I loved my job. I loved acting. I loved having the opportunity to act, but the public appearance part of it was honestly draining. Unfortunately, I had to attend these things so no one would forget me. If they forgot me, I wouldn’t have more roles.“Smile,” Jade muttered under her breath beside me just as another round of cameras flashed in my direction.I smiled automatically.I was dressed in a silver gown that hugged every curve of my body while diamonds rested around my neck. My hair was styled down in soft waves and my makeup artist had spent almost two hours making me loo

CHARLOTTE~•~My head automatically drew back at the revelation. “He left the party with you?”She pursed her lips and as if she wanted to emphasize it even more or rub it in, she said. “So if you don’t know that we fucked that night, why are you catching an attitude with me?”“An attitude, you— oh my god, this conversation is ridiculous.” I wanted to tell her that I’d prefer not to see her face at all. I wanted to tell her that I hadn’t forgotten about all the vile things she paid people to write about me. I wanted to tell her about the upcoming lawsuit, but my lawyer thought it was best to catch her off guard. Alexander’s lawyer too.But I was also still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she’d slept with Dave on the night of her party. And he still asked me out a week after that.I mean, I did sleep with Alexander that night as well, but I didn’t try to make Dave my boyfriend merely a week later. Did he even like me? Did he only ask me out of guilt? Was that why it was so

CHARLOTTE~•~“So are we going to talk about what happened in there or are we going to wait until we get home?”We’d just arrived at the after-party that was being thrown by a musician I really respected. I didn’t want to go. My mood had already been ruined, but not attending would make me seem like a snob and I was still smoothing over my reputation so I had no choice.I couldn’t wait to go back to New York and continue living like a hermit for the rest of the year.“How about we greet a few people first?” I offered. “We can stay for thirty minutes then leave or talk. Your choice.”Alexander stared down at me. “I know you didn’t do anything with him,” he clarified. “I saw Vanessa leave so all three of you were there together. I’m just curious and well, concerned.”I didn’t for a second think he suspected of… fooling around with Dave. I just didn’t know how to bring up the topic. Alexander had basically implied that Dave abandoned me back then because of what I’d been going through. I

CHARLOTTE~•~“You have such a dirty mouth during sex.”Alexander chuckled, the sound vibrating through my body. “Did you wake up this morning thinking about sex with me?” He questioned, placing a kiss on my shoulder.“Considering I can feel you poking my leg, that isn’t so absurd, is it?”He adjusted, shifting his crotch away from my body, still keeping his arms wrapped around me. “Sorry. Morning wood.” He said. “It also doesn’t help that you’re incredibly sexy every second of the day.”That brought heat to my cheeks. I couldn’t fall for his seduction, not when Nyla’s favorite part of the day was waking me up. “You can go back to your room now.”Alexander groaned. “I thought this was our room now.”“You thought wrong, babe.”“Couples usually sleep together.” He pointed.“Good thing we aren’t a couple. We’re coparenting.”“Yeah?” I could hear the smugness in his voice before he even asked the question. “How come you didn’t say anything when I called you my wife last night?”Heat crawl

CHARLOTTE~•~“If you had gone one more time without answering my calls, I would have taken the next flight to LA.” Lucy hissed as I answered her call and brought my phone to my ear.I winced. “Sorry. Everyone is trying to reach me at the same time.” I explained.“So? It only means you prioritize me.”“I did. I put my phone on DND and put you on favorites.”“Is that supposed to make me feel special?”“Not at all,” I said but couldn’t stop my laugh. “But I’ll make it up to you later.”She sighed audibly. “Whatever. I was calling to check up on you. I didn’t know Vanessa was behind all that.” Her tone was accusatory.Right. I hadn’t told her about that. I didn’t blame her if she was mad at me for keeping things from her. “I’m sorry.”“You’ve replaced me with Alexander, haven’t you?”I instinctively looked at the door of my room. I’d waited for him to leave before I answered her call because I also wanted to talk about him and even if the call wasn’t on speaker, I didn’t want him to over
