Lexie’s vibrant red hair is normally a welcome echo of my mate, but tonight it's just making my stomach uneasy while she chokes herself on my cock. She’s so eager to please that she hasn’t noticed that I’m not throat-fucking her like normal or gripping her hair so I can control her actions. I’m sitting on the edge of the bed I used to share with my mate, with Lexie between my legs and my eyes closed so I can picture the filthy blonde-haired, blue-eyed temptress in the basement. Elle is human and an assassin sent to kill me. I have no right to imagine doing filthy things to her, but each time she glares at me, all I can think about is pushing her against a wall and slamming myself deep inside. I think it's her confidence that gets to me; she walks around thinking she’s some big badass dominant but I’ve seen into the depths of her dark blue eyes. There’s an ocean of information in those depths and right in the centre is the flicker of a submissive personality Elle has never been able to

It's got four posters that used to hold soft silk curtains but after Nicole passed, I got rid of them; they reminded me too much of the nights I used to tie her up and ravage her body under the glow of the full moon. “I’m not fucking you.” Elle snaps as she continues to try and pull herself out of my grip. I chuckle because I can smell her need; I smelt it the second she laid eyes on me. Elle wants me as much as I want her; it might be a passing attraction or it might be something deeper but neither of us is willing to look deeper into it. “I have no need for a breakable human in my bed.” I growl at her as I grab two silk scarves out of the bedside drawer; it will be enough to hold her tonight and I’ll find something strong for tomorrow. “Oh hell no.” Elle growls as I turn to face her; the red scarves dangle from my fingers as I smirk down at her. The fear in her eyes is very real and for the first time I finally see a crack in the little blonde badass. She’s willing to step into m

Gideon literally drops me on my ass once we’re in the most luxurious bathroom I’ve ever seen. The lights were off last night so I didn’t get a good look at the space. This bathroom is a little less bachelor than the bedroom; there are little plastic flowers on the window just above the toilet, the bathtub is massive with four gold feet and matching taps, and the assortment of bubbles, lotions and bathsalts tells me a woman definitely uses this room on the regular. The shower is huge; it easily takes up a third of the far wall, the shower head is almost three times bigger than any showerhead I’ve ever seen. The glass separating the shower from the rest of the bathroom is completely clear; I can imagine Gideon’s wife sitting in the tub with all her bubbles while he watches her from the steam-covered glass shower. I’ve never thought of a bathroom as sexy but this entire room seems like it's been designed to keep the flame alive while taking care of some very basic needs. Even the sink sp

“She’s here to kill you and you let her out of the damn cage?” James is on me as soon as I step out of the bathroom. I snap the door closed quickly so Elle can’t overhear us. I knew this was coming but I thought my Beta might bite his tongue just a little longer. He’s wearing a clean pair of joggers and nothing else; his tattoos are on full display and his eyes are dancing between blue and hazel. I always thought it strange how his eyes change like that after shifting. “I made a deal with her.” I grunt as I walk across the room to open the bag James has left on the bed. I asked him to grab it from Elle’s van as soon as she told me she needed her computer to contact her boss or whoever it is that gives the orders. “And? You just gonna leave me hangin’?” I understand James’ annoyance but I won’t stand for him being impatient and disrespectful; it's one thing for him to question if I’m doing the right thing but right now he’s dancing over the line and entering the part where he makes m

I force Elle to walk in front of me so I can watch her take in the house; her eyes are darting all over as she tries to process the many family pictures on the wall. Some go back generations, but the vast majority are from when my father was Alpha; soon, my own Alpha pictures will be in pride of place. She keeps running her fingers along the painted walls like she’s amazed it's not crumbling under her fingers. The house was built long before I was even a thought. The Pack chose this place to make our home because of the farmable land around us and the forest at our back; the Pack house was just a bonus. Everyone else lives in a small house recently built by the enforcers or converted shipping containers; no one complains because we all know we have the best of what the world has to offer. “If I see you go for a weapon, I’ll slam you back in the cage faster than you can move.” I growl at Elle’s back; I’m doing my best to stamp down my desire. I have to remember she’s here to kill me an
