I block Liana’s call again. “Leave me alone,” I mutter, stuffing my jersey back into my sports bag. It’s the third time she’s calling me today, maybe the 10th time this week, and I’ve had it up to here with all these people trying to check up on me like I’m some broken little wolf who needs their pity. “See you Friday, Parker?” One of the people I was practicing with comes over and shakes me. He must have told me his name like eight times, but I haven’t exactly been present enough to remember it. “Friday, sure,” I mutter. “A shame St. Claire didn’t show up. He’s a beast on that field.” Ryker doesn’t need to practice. He could walk onto that pitch Friday and score every touchdown our team needs to win before halftime. He’s a god on that field. “Friday, yeah,” The boy scowls, then leans closer until I smell the sweat tinged with his coconut pheromones. “Hey man, I know we’re not exactly friends, but I just wanted to know if you’re good. You’ve been off all day.” My

Talon broke his mirror and everything broke apart. After Hunter came up from between my legs, and Ryker had brushed the side of my lip, asking if I was okay, I think we were going to have some discussion about whatever had happened between the three of us, but then the crash upstairs came. Hunter and Ryker shared a terrified look, one that told me they’d been in a situation like this before. Sure enough, when we rushed to see what it was, we found Talon on the floor, his mirror shattered around him, and his hand bleeding so badly I covered my mouth at the sheer amount of red gushing from his knuckles. “Needle,” Hunter said, painfully calm. The sort of calmness that could only come from dealing with something like this often. He knelt by Talon and began stitching, whispering something comforting to him. But I don’t even think Talon could hear; his hazel eyes were far-away, looking right through me. After that, the subject of sex flew far out the window. “Go home, Olivia. We’ll t

Something is wrong. I haven't seen any of my pack brothers anywhere since I arrived. I plucked through our bond, and everyone feels on edge, turbulent, the storm before an even worse storm. I try to convince myself that there is no problem, that I haven’t seen them because I came early. But even if the rest of them showed up late, Hunter would never, and Ryker is supposed to play. At the very least, they would have called. I remember guiltily that I haven’t been picking their calls. Maybe they’re shunning me cause I’ve been ignoring them, trying to sort out this whole Olivia matter. I feel like I’ve failed them. I feel insane over all this goddess nonsense. I feel mad cause of Olivia and her evil magic, her enchanting ways, her soft-curled hair, her long-lashes eyes…Holy fuck, I feel more than I have ever felt in my whole life.I seat up at the bleachers, looking around and hoping to catch a glimpse of one of my boys. Like the goddess notices my searching and wants to help, I s

I lunge. One of Everest’s Betas tries to sink his teeth into my shoulder, but I push him off and beeline for the field. Another Beta gives chase, but I’m faster, and soon we’re in the middle of the pitch; me versus the entire Blood Fang pack. The crowd is in an uproar. Somewhere, a whistle blows incessantly, telling us to stop. To behave, or, at the very least, to get off the fucking field. None of us listen. Another Beta lunges over his packbrother, so that I don’t anticipate his attack. The bastard crashes into me, and the grass beneath us is the only thing that breaks my fall. “Fucker,” I growl, chomping down on his arm. He howls, slinking back and leaving a trail of red as he goes. I spit out the metallic taste of his blood and jump back to my feet, growling. The rest of the pack rounds me, 3 to 1. Everest, of course, hangs back long enough to watch. I know his tactic; leave the dirty work for his Betas so that when they weaken me he can come in and deliver the death blow,

I leap out of bed and catch Olivia. She crumples in my arms with a small “oof” and then she stops moving. For a split, horrifying second, I think she’s dead. But then I feel her pulse beat beneath my fingertips, in-sync with mine, and I breathe a little easier. The ache in my shoulder is gone. The poison spreading around my body is no longer killing me. I don’t know what she’s done, or how she keeps doing it, but this time, I owe her my life. She’s weightless in my arms as I carry her, then drop her on one of the nurse’s beds. The ointment Marjorie and the other woman went looking for plops out from her shirt. “A distraction? Really?” I mutter, trying hard not to be amused by her. What sort of pride convinced Olivia Blackwood that she could save me better than the nurse could? And why did that pride work? The nurses will soon be back, and they’ll need an explanation for our sudden healing. I pick up the ointment, slathering the peppery oil on my shoulder. My eyes water from the
