To survive, she must go through the prestigious Lycroft college. If she passes, she will become the first hybrid, but if she fails, she will be killed as the last human. When she runs into the Crestridge pack, Lycroftâs sexiest, most desired shifters, her need for them only makes her life more complicated. The clock is ticking. The wolves are hating. And her heart is doing what she never wanted it to: falling. Will her desire for the Crestridge boys be her salvation, or will they add to her demise?

I stand in front of Lycroft College, my heart pounding so loud Iâm worried all the werewolves inside can hear. âDonât just stare.â Alpha Rick commands, yanking my box after me. âYou didnât tell me there would be so many wolves,â I say back, and he heaves the heaviest sigh Iâve ever heard. âThis is a werewolf town, Olivia. Of course, there are going to be wolvesâ He mutters. Great. Like everything else in my life, I'm the only living, breathing human to exist. Like he can smell my panic, he adds, âJust wait for Hunter, heâll take you to Principal Watson and protect you for the rest of the year. Everything will be fine .â I spy a poster of a large wolf stepping on a humanâs skull. The bleak headline reads, âWe Always Conquer.â I gulp. Does that look fine to him? A boy by the poster spots me, and I freeze right as his eyes widen. âGET LOST!â Alpha Rick barks, and the boy scurries down the corridor, but itâs too late. Heâs already aware that Iâm around, and now the news is going to spread like wildfire. The human has arrived. I turn to Ricklan desperately, all my fear crashing down on me. His grey eyes crinkle and he pulls me closer till I melt in his familiar forest scent. âItâs going to be fine. You have trained for this your whole life. All you have to do is graduate and the council will allow me to turn you into a hybrid.â âBut what if I-â âNo what ifs.â He snaps, âI didnât raise you to think you canât do this. You can. You will. Don't let any asshole make you think you don't belong.â I nod. Only because I have to believe him. The alternative is panicking for the rest of my life. And if I donât pass, the rest of my life will not be very long. My mouth is dry, but I manage to croak, âOkay.â He looks like he has something else to say, but then his gaze shifts over my shoulder, and he straightens. âUNCLE RICK!â A voice merrily yells behind me. His lip quirks up slightly, âHunter.â Hunter? I whirl around to face Rickâs Godson, and the second I spot him, my brain short-circuits. His tall, muscled frame fills his uniform perfectly. I've never seen someone look so delicious in school wear. The wind blows his dark, curly hair as he pulls Rick in for a hug. âDid you get taller?â Rick asks, looking up at his godson. âDonât be a dramatic uncle. Many boys my age are 6 foot 3.â He says brightly. My mouth nearly falls open. Does he even know many boys his age? âTell your dad I said hi,â Rick adds, before gesturing at me, âand this is Olivia.â Finally, Hunterâs blue eyes slide over to me. He seems to do a double-take, his smile slipping, and it only makes me more anxious. âThis is Olivia?â He asks incredulously. I canât help but get defensive, âIs that a problem?â His cheeks redden, âWhat? No! You're justâŠsmall.â Thereâs a look in his eye that tells me he was going to say something else, but I donât press. The last thing I want is to challenge a wolf who could crush me with one hand. Luckily, the school bell dings, and it gives me the chance to tear my gaze away. It's time to go. Rick sucks in a sharp breath. Even though I'm not his daughter, I guess this must have some impact on him. He raised me. Rick pulled me from the shambles of war and fought like hell to make sure I survived. The issue is, he didn't consider what it would be like for me living in a world dominated by predators. Even though heâs not affectionate, I consider reaching for a hug. But Rick takes a mechanical step back, and when he stretches out his hand for a handshake of all things, I have to swallow my disappointment. I clasp our hands, hating him and already missing him. âBe safe, Olivia,â he says in his commanding Alpha voice. âI will, Alpha Rick,â I promise. He looks at me head-to-toe one more time, then he nods and turns away âIâll call.â he declares, not giving me time to respond before he dashes to his car. I watch as he gets in, not looking back, and zooms off, leaving me alone for the first time in my whole life with nothing but an aching heart. And his Godson. I turn back to Hunter, who already has my box in hand and a kind smile on his face. I can't help the desire that clenches my stomach. I expected the first wolf I met after Rick to freak me out, but so far Hunter has treated me like I belong. I force myself to look away and march into the empty halls. Why are the halls empty? âI told everyone to go away.â Hunter says suddenly, like he read my mind, âI didnât want to add stress to your arrival.â Iâm too shocked to speak. He just⊠sent them away? And they just listened? Who the hell is this guy? We head for the Principalâs office door, and when the silence stretches too long, Hunter pipes up again. âEvery time Uncle Rick visits Dad and me, he talks about you. I've been so eager to meet you, and I know Rick is going to miss you like hell.â Miss me? A stubborn spark of anger flares in me, and before I can control it, I blurt, âAlpha Rick doesnât miss anyone.â âNot even his daughter?â âIâm not his daughter.â I deadpan. He must tell he struck a nerve cause he says, âSorry, I just⊠You get what I mean. He loves you.â My cheeks heat as we reach the principal's door. Loves me? Iâm his responsibility, sure, but no one who loves me would agree to what he did. Everything in my brain tells me to keep my mouth shut, but something about Hunter has me asking, âDo you even know what Alpha Rick did to get me into this school?â âEveryone knows.â Hunter says carefully, â He adopted you as a baby. He saved you from the war between wolves and humans and is giving you the best education there is.â So thatâs what people believe? That heâs my big, sweet hero? I swallow my scream and grit out, âYou left out the part where he made a deal.â Hunter crinkles his perfect eyes at me, âWhat deal?â Shit. Bad idea. I reach for the principal's door, ready to put this whole thing behind me, but Hunterâs large palm wraps around my forearm, and he forces me to face him. âOlivia, what deal?â he practically begs. âI-â I stop, breathing out my hesitation, âThe werewolf council wanted to kill me as a baby. They told Alpha Rick the only way theyâd allow me live is if I pass Lycroft College. If I do, Rick will get to turn me.â I pause for this next part. I hate this next part. âBut if I fail⊠I'll die.â Hunter reels back like I slapped him. I almost feel bad that this is his first impression of me. âRick would never!â Hunter gasps. âRick has,â I insist, stepping into the office, "and you want to know the worst part?â His distressed eyes tell me he absolutely doesnât want to know, but thereâs no stopping me now. âAlpha Rick has to be the one to kill me.âQuestion: How do you claim something that doesnât want to be claimed?Well, first, you wait. You spend a large chunk of your time, of your life, hoping and praying that one day they turn their gaze your way and pick you out of all the fools there are to pick.Like with Quinn. So much of what I did with her was an elaborate waiting game. And for the most part, it worked: I waited for her to see I was worth loving, and when we had our first kiss just outside her house, I knew I had finally gotten my wish.I waited for her to choose me, and over and over again she did. I was grateful. I was in love. And then, when the war happened, I waited for her to pick me again. This time, it wasnât as easy as the other times. This time, she wanted to get away from me.So I canât understand what itâs like, loving someone as deeply as I loved my Quinn and having that affection thrown in the mud.I was upset, to say the least. But not half as upset as when she died.It was an accident. At least, that's
The drive is long, but the silence is longer. I spend the first half of the way there darting my eyes out of the windows, afraid Nester would be running behind us with gleaming, angry eyes. But an hour in, with no sign of any other life except the five of us, I realize Nester/Principal Watson isnât anywhere on our trail. I donât know if that makes me feel better or worse. What I do know is that once the anxiety of that wears down, a completely different, overtaking stress hits me as I glance at my boys. By taking me away, they are taking away their opportunity to graduate. âWe have to go back,â I state plainly. Axel barks a harsh laugh from the driver seat. âGood to see youâre no longer in pain.â âAxel, Iâm serious.â He slows down for a second so he can stare at me. âSo are we.â I let out an anxious huff, turning to Hunter in the passenger seat, âGet him to turn the car around.â âNot doing that,â Hunter says. Itâs so simple, as if he isnât leaving his parents behind. Ryker
âTalon, whatâs-â âHappening to you?â he finishes for me. âI donât know. Youâre shifting. Youâre grieving. Youâre already powerful without either of those things. So maybe itâs all three. Maybe itâs none of that. All I know is if we donât get out of this school before Principal Watson finds out what just happened, he will mate you here and now.â My heart lurches as Talon cups my cheeks with his warm palms. Ryker appears beside me, his scent more smoke than vanilla. âIâll kill him before I let him bite you.â His promise steadies me; they all do. Itâs enough to give me a second to recalibrate and fucking think. I nod, heaving in a heavy breath. âOkay?â Talon confirms. âOkay, okay.â Iâm breathless, but Talon kisses the top of my head regardless. He pulls me, allowing us to weave through the destroyed cafeteria as eyes either look at me intently or avoid me altogether. Iâve become the monster they all wanted me to be. The second Talon and I are out of the hall, we take
I explode. Magic flows out of my fingers, my eyes, my hair, my mouth as I scream. Everywhere is gold. I am gold. I donât know how to stop or if I even can; all I know is that Iâm magic and magic is me. âOlivia!â A warbled yell tries to break through to me, but as much as I try to reach it, I canât. People around me fall to their knees, not speaking or moving. I canât raise my head to stare at them because of the force of magic thatâs weighing me down. I think Iâm going to be crushed by my own power. âOlivia!â A voice calls again; deeper this time, more commanding. Axel. With all my might, I snap my head up and watch him blaze a path toward me. Heâs lit up like a torch. His usually silver eyes bore into mine with as much gold as there is in the cafeteria. He falls to his knees in front of me, shouting, âOlivia, let go!â I canât. Even if I wanted to, I canât. Is this what I really am? What Nester wants to snatch and take as his own? Suddenly, my hand sears
Shoving. â Pushing. â Snarling. â Breaking through this crowd in any way I can to reach that strawberry and cinnamon scent. â Sheâs here. â Why the hell is she here? â âMove!â I snap, shoving a boy out of my way. Axelâs the impatient one. But right now, Iâm not focused on manners. â I
The door closes behind them, but the threat rings in my ears.â*Trust me, human. I havenât even begun with you.*âAll I wanted was to meet Talon, and the person who was meant to introduce me to him just walked out with the wolf that assaulted me.âMy chest constricts with panic. What if there is
This was a mistake.Someone pushes his girlfriend behind him, growling at me like my disgusting human genes will corrupt her.But his hatred doesnât even match the one from the large, tattooed Lycan standing in front of me. We lock eyes.âHuman.â He snarls, making goosebumps flare over my skin. W
Fuck, she smelt so good. âYouâve outdone yourself, Rye!â Clarissa shouts over the music. We grind in sync with other couples on the dancefloor. I control her hips, bucking against her ass with my hardened dick. But sheâs not the one I want to sink my erection into. Olivia. It doesnât make sen
