Semua Bab Bite: Bab 51 - Bab 60

My heart stops. Talon takes in an audible breath, and I feel a small flutter of hope at the idea. She would do that for us? For Tally? “Don’t risk yourself for me, Miss Blackwood,” Talon says quietly after a moment. “And why not?” She moves over to him, staring at him until he looks away. “You’re worth it, Talon.” “It’s not about worth. Everest is dangerous.” “And I’m not?” Talon glances back up, hazel eyes shining like the day she saved his life. “No. Not like him. He’s evil. He’ll use his power to destroy anyone just for the fun of it. Whatever power you have, you’ve used only for good.” “Then let me use my power for good again; let me help you,” she pleads, grasping his hand. Talon startles as he looks at their joined fingers. A lump bobs in his throat. The tips of his silver hair brush over their hands, and I want him to just stay that way. To let himself be loved. He pulls his hand away, and I feel the same dissatisfaction that crosses over Olivia’s face. “How do we ev

“Don't touch anything. Don't be intimidated by them. Don't make direct eye contact with my father. Don't be bothered by my mother, and you'll be fine." "Damn, Talon," I say through a nervous smile. "Am I allowed to breathe?" He scowls at me like I can't understand his fear, but in reality, I'm probably more nervous than him. How will his parents react to him bringing a random girl home to "study" and sleep over? Not just any random girl, but a human? "This is serious, Olivia. I haven't seen my parents since I moved into CrestRidge three years ago." He explains. My eyes widen. "Why not?" "It's... complicated." I set my jaw. "Doesn't bringing a human girl home make it even more complicated?" "Yes? No?" He gives an elegant shrug. "My ancestors made our money alongside humans before the war. My family isn't going to hate you for being who you are. I guess they'll just be pissed that you are the reason I came back." He casts me a sideways glance, and the butterflies in my belly go

“Quinn Willow’s daughter.” Theresa Darlington beams as we clack down her long corridor lined with famous art and statues popping from the bricks. But for all her expensive art, nothing seems to intrigue her as much as me. Talon and I follow after her like lost puppies, trying to keep pace with our owner. “Mother, slow down, please.” Talon gasps. I see him begin to cradle his stomach again and I worry. Theresa stops for a moment to cast her son a chastising look. “You wouldn’t stop if you knew the brilliance you’re in the room with, sweet boy.” My heart leaps as Talon looks at me briefly, saying quietly, “Trust me, mother. I think I have some idea.” I turn away and hide my blush, but Theresa doesn’t act like she heard him. She keeps pushing forward, and I’m amazed her thick hair doesn’t get tangled in her elegant walk. “Ryan!” she bellows, her voice echoing into a massive living room that we enter. The chandelier reflects the three of us overhead, and I become mesmerized by it.

I hate that I never know what to do without my packmates. As Ryker whirs away, speeding off into the sunset, I feel the panicked urge to follow him. What if he gets hurt? What if he has a run-in with Everest? What if, what if, what if… What if, for once, I took a fucking break? Axel’s and I’s feud is doing my head in, Talon will be safe as long as he’s with Livvy, and Ryker will not sleep with Clarissa again, that I’m sure of. He can be impulsive, but he’s not stupid. That leaves me for the first time since I signed up to be Axel Parker’s beta with this wonderful little thing called free time, and I have no fucking clue what I’m supposed to do with it. I weigh my options: I could call Olivia, ask her about Talon, but I have to mentally remind myself that that’s not anyone’s idea of fun. I could go back to Crestridge, order a pizza, and wait for all of us to make up so we can put this fight behind us. It’s also not too late to trail Ryker, see where he went. I shake my hea

We make our way out of the room and up the stairs. Talon puts on a shirt he says he hasn’t worn since he was 17, and even though he’s lost a ton of weight over the years, it clings to every ridge of his lean body. His veined arms are the only things left exposed. I watch his hair sway as he walks in step with me. I have to pull my eyes away. How can he think he’s not my standard? I would give so much for him to touch me. “Lost in thought, Olivia?” His father’s baritone pierces through my head. I stand pin-straight and smile away my thoughts about his son, “Just thinking about my mother.” His face becomes shadowed, a mix of nostalgia and sadness, “Quinn. She was… wonderful.” My heart thrums, and I lean in to hear more about this woman who has taken over my whole life. But then we push into the Darlington library, and all thoughts temporarily pause. “Oh my Goddess,” I whisper as I look up at the towers of books. This place makes the CrestRidge library look like child’s pla
