My Ex-husband Billion Dollar Mistakes のすべてのチャプター: チャプター 11 - チャプター 20

(Mira’s POV)I don't chase people.I never have. Not once in my life.I want to be very clear that I was not running away. I was simply done wasting my time on a conversation that had already told me everything I needed to know.Xavier's silence had been loud enough. I heard every word of it.My apartment was calm when I got home.I dropped my bag, didn't bother with the lights, and sat at my desk for a full ten minutes without moving.I was not falling apart but rather taking something painful and rearranging it into something I could actually use.Because that is what I do.That is what I have always done.I had driven to that hospital this morning because my instincts told me to do so. I had noticed Xavier's character lately. Though I told myself I was being paranoid and above insecurity. But I went this morning and what I found was worse than anything I had imagined and he made it clear to me.He looked at me with those expressions that he knew exactly what he was doing and exact

The door clicked open.Xavier stepped inside, loosening his tie, his mind was still with Nichole. Then, suddenly, he noticed somebody was in his living room. She was sitting straight-backed on his sofa, backing him.He wasn't expecting anyone to be in his apartment this time.“Good evening, Xavier.” she said.“Mother?”Xavier shut the door slowly behind him as he stood shocked.“Mother.”She stood, smoothing her dress, scanning him from head to toe suspiciously.“Where have you been?”Xavier doesn't answer immediately as he keeps staring at her wondering how his mother can't get her claws off his back at any slightest privacy.“I’ve been handling something important.”She stared at him cautiously again“Important?” she replied. “More important than your responsibilities?”Xavier exhaled quietly, already aware of where this was going.“I’m handling my responsibilities, Mother.”She let out a soft, humorless laugh. “No Xavier, you’re avoiding them.”He placed his hands tiredly on his wa

(Xavier’s POV)I watched Nichole leave immediately after we met. She had asked about Mira touching me, not because she wanted to be difficult, but because she was hurting. And I had let it happen.I stood on those steps for a long minute, genuinely pissed off with the whole stuff. I needed to go after her, but I couldn't leave things messy at the hotel. If I didn't end this with Mira now, she would keep showing up like a ghost, ruining every little moment I've tried to build.I turned around and walked back into the hotel. My footsteps were heavy. I wasn't just angry; I was done. When I reached the restaurant, I expected to see Mira sitting alone, perhaps looking smug or waiting to scold me for leaving. Instead, she wasn't alone.A man was sitting in my chair. He was younger, dressed in a neat grey suit, leaning in close to her. Mira was laughing, her hand resting on his forearm the same way it had rested on mine just minutes ago.The sight didn't make me jealous. It just made me si

Chapter 17The Shadow in the Mirror.(Xavier’s POV)I sat in my car outside Nichole’s apartment for a long time. I didn't turn on the engine. The only sound was the tap-tap-tap sound of the rain hitting the roof. I stared at the glowing laptop screen on the passenger seat. The bank records were right there, staring back at me. My father, a man who never gave away a cent for free, had sent thousands of dollars to Nichole’s mother 10 years back.."Why?" I whispered to the empty car.I felt like the ground was falling out from under me. Just ten minutes ago, I had truly believed she was the only honest thing left in my life. Now, I felt like I was sitting in a room full of life and secrets. I finally started the car and drove toward my office. I couldn't face the board members yet. I just needed to cool off and the truth. When I reached my office, on the top floor, the lights were dimmed. I expected the floor to be empty, but someone was sitting in my large leather chair. The chair tu

(Nichole’s POV)I sat across from Julian in the corner booth of L'Avenue, but I couldn't taste the pasta in front of me. Every time the restaurant door opened, I jumped. I felt like a criminal, even though I was the one seeking justice."You look like you've seen a ghost, Nichole," Julian said softly. He reached across the table and covered my hand with his. His skin was warm, compared to the freezing rain I’d stood in with Xavier just hours ago."I feel like one," I whispered. "Julian, are you sure about these files? If this is true... if Xavier’s brother was the one who hit my mother... then my whole life has been a lie orchestrated by them."Julian squeezed my hand gently, as he straightened. "The police report on that flash drive is the original, Nichole. Not the fake one the lawyers filed. Leo Camberg, the brother of Xavier , was high, he was just speeding, and he destroyed your mother's legs. Then, Xavier’s father bought your family’s silence with a cheque while you were too
