Grieving (Nole)

Authors Note: This is the fifth book in the Harvest series. If you would like to read Harvested, Abandoned, Protected, and Groomed please do, but each story can be read as a stand alone. Jia's story will include the introduction to the next batch of Harvested Girls from Earth. NOLE POV I grunt as I complete my 93rd chin-up. My biceps are screaming and my chest feels as if it will rip in half if I do another rep, but I refuse to quit. My personal best is 97 chin-ups, and stopping short of that is unacceptable. I grind my teeth together and tighten my grip before pushing my muscles to contract four more times. When I reach 97 I exhale the breath I didn't realize I was holding and drop down. JIA POV I wince as I accidentally catch sight of the port in my chest in the mirror. I have never grown accustomed to seeing the foreign object protruding from my body, even though I have had it for so long now. NOLE POVI keep my face blank as the thick liquor Cok is known for burns my throat. My mind is buzzing with emotions that I haven't been forced to deal with in years. JIA POVThe view out my window is nothing special. In fact, the only thing I can see is the side of another hospital. But I have been looking out my window a lot lately, because while it is boring at least it isn't the same white walls I have been staring at for what feels like an eternity. NOLE POV I straighten the cushion on the couch I chose again and step back. I look over the surfaces of the entire room and sigh before rubbing my hand through my hair. The house is pristine. My staff have done a wonderful job preparing my mate's new home, but I am second-guessing every little thing. When I chose the house I was confident in my choice. The main houses' location is close to a public, but well-protected transport pad. There is a mountain directly behind the main house as well, which eliminates any sort of attack from behind our home. My body jolts a little and my eyes snap open. Bright colors and cold air make them close almost instantly but I saw enough of the room to know I am no longer in the empty office building. I was really transported to somewhere else. That part of the mystery wasn't a lie at least. I reopen my eyes more slowly this time and suck in a scared breath as they land on a tall red woman with small fangs and black hair. I suppose the second part of the mystery was also true... Aliens are real. She holds up her hand in a non-threatening manner before quickly pressing a green button on the wall and I gasp as flashes of light explode over my sickly body. When the flashes stop a holographic-looking screen pops up in front of her. She looks at the strange words on the screen for about five seconds before the screen disappears. Meal Hall (Jia)

Everywhere I turn all I seem to find is bright colors and polite people. The wild scenery outside looks as if it were painted by a toddler. When the door first slid open to reveal their multi-colored planet I was startled and a little overwhelmed, but now it makes sense. Every alien we have passed has been a bright bold color. They are naturally camouflaged with their planet... which also means we stand out like sore thumbs. But our different appearance doesn't seem to bother the aliens at all. We might be outsiders, but positive greetings have been all we have experienced. Not one person has given us the stink eye.
