Elvira’s POV What was wrong with these people? How could they leave me behind? Didn’t they think I would get lost?! I tried to follow behind them but I couldn’t see them. I was sure they'd taken this path, but there wasn’t even a footprint to follow. I walked around to find a path out of this place, but it felt like I was turning in endless circles. I tried calling Calix as the day was getting dark but there wasn’t any network. I screamed for help even though I knew it was a waste of time. I couldn’t even share my location. Heaven knows I can’t spend the night here. Why am I even exaggerating? Everyone must have noticed I hadn’t come back yet so they must be out looking for me. I sighed as I walked the path but stopped when I heard footsteps behind me, “Karisa are you there!! Mother is that you? Who is there?!” The footsteps stopped and it made me grow increasingly scared, “It’s not funny! You better come out before I get angry, I won’t forgive you for trying to scare me!

Calix’s POV I could clearly see Elvira didn’t want to come here so I wondered why she agreed and I didn’t feel comfortable letting Elvira go with those two vixens. “Are you good?” Mr Halethor questioned as we walked down the hunting trail. I glanced back one more time before I responded, “Yes, I’m just worried about my wife.” “Your wife is with her mother, I can’t speak for Karisa but her Mother would never hurt her,” Mr Halethor reassured, “Thank you for protecting my child…..” The sound of my phone took my attention from Mr Halethor. I checked the message and saw it was something that needed immediate attention, “I will have to excuse myself, please continue without me.” “Sure,” Mr Halethor said and I excused myself from the hunting field. I went to sit in the car and attended to the company work that I didn’t finish earlier. I rounded it and went back to the hunting ground. I picked up my rifle from one of the workers when I heard Elvira’s Grandmother’s voice from be

Calix’s POV I should have listened to my gut and shouldn’t have let Elvira go into the hunting field. I should have insisted and now all I can hear are the sounds of guns. I really hope my wife is safe and sound. “Calix is right, that isn’t the sound of the rifles,” Mr Halethor said, “Elvira is in danger.” “How do you know that?” Casper questioned. “My Grandfather was once a minister in the military so I can tell certain gun types based on the shot,” I didn’t have time to explain so I just threw in something short and at the same time I was trying to figure out where the sound came from. “Oh my baby,” Grandma started crying. I couldn’t wait any longer. Every second was crucial for my wife, just as I took another step I heard another gunshot and this time my blood ran dry. “Bring a search team!” I said and ran into the hunting ground without waiting for anybody. Mr Halethor said there was a path to find my way back, but there was nothing. Did he lie to me or did

Calix’s POV The color drained from Ace’s face. He dropped the medical bag he was carrying as he said, “What nonsense are you spewing?” Ace gently took Elvira from my hands and laid her in a straight position. I hoped in my heart that she would be okay as Ace attentively checked for her pulse. I knew I was wrong, I wasn’t a doctor so there was no way I could get a correct pulse. Oh please let Ace say I was wrong. Ace turned to me with a relieved look, “There is a pulse but it’s very weak,” Ace notified me and immediately began performing CPR. A wave of relief washed over me. For a minute I thought the worst had happened. “Your radio,” Ace said and I immediately held my walkie-talkie to his mouth, “We need to evacuate her immediately. She had lost so much blood.” “We are working on that.” “How… How far is the nearest hospital?” I managed to ask. “Approximately sixteen minutes by air.” “Would that be enough time to save my wife?” I asked Ace in desperation and he nod

Calix’s POV “Calix…. Calix.” I opened my eyes to the sound of Ace’s voice. I lifted myself from the floor and sat up. I didn’t even know how long I had been in here and I didn’t even know how I slept off. “Elvira?” That was the first name that came to mind as I saw him kneeling beside me. Ace nodded his head, “Her surgery was successful.” A wave of relief washed through me as I glanced up. He really did answer people like me, “How…. How is she now?” “She is unconscious for now, though her surgery was successful, we have to wait for her to wake up,” Ace explained, “She is in ICU.” “Does your family have ties to this hospital?” That was the first thing that came to my mind. Ace stared at me as if trying to understand me, “Yes, they know a few doctors, any issue?” “No,” I gave a subtle smile as I stood up from the floor. I couldn’t trust any of them around my Elvira. Someone from this family wanted to kill her and I know that person wouldn’t stop until they succeeded.

Calix’s POV Chloe’s words hit harder than expected. I have never been affected by her words but today was different. After everything that has happened with Elvira, Chloe was the last person I wanted to hear my wife's and my mother’s name from. “Chloe Jordan!!!” I yelled her name at the top of my lungs, “Don’t you dare mention those names with your filthy mouth!” “Why?” Chloe questioned with a smug expression on her face, “Does the truth hurt?” I didn’t want to open my wounds but since this madwoman wants to go back in the past then I should remind her too. “Truth? Which truth are we talking about?” I questioned, “Mrs Chloe, I think you are mistaken, you are the cursed one and not me.” I clenched my fist, “My Mother died because of you!! She died the day you decided to snatch everything from her, you couldn’t even spare her, you couldn’t even spare your blood sister!” “Elenor was never my sister!!” Chloe yelled in my face. “You may never claim her as your sister but she

Calix’s POV I clenched my fist tightly, I could feel my fingers digging into my palm. Chloe’s question got to me, it shook a nerve but I have learnt to keep my emotions in check. “Chloe,” I called calmly, “That’s enough.” “Why? Are you scared to show her that you are a monster who only uses people for their selfish gain?” A smug smile made its way to Chloe’s face, “Shouldn’t we tell her the truth?” I nodded my head, “Mrs Chloe, it appears you do not have my wife’s number, do you want her number?” Chloe's smug smile dropped, and I was more than satisfied to see the confused look on her face. “What?” She furrowed her eyebrows, “Why would I need Elvira’s number? I shrugged, “You clearly have a lot to say to her, instead of saying it to me, you can directly say it to her.” “How can I forget who raised you,” Chloe spat furiously. “She is at the hospital, when she regains consciousness then I will let you tell her everything,” I unclenched my fist, “Remember don’t disturb th

Elvira’s POV The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a bright white light above me. I blinked several times but everything was still blurry. I could hear the sound of a machine beeping near me and multiple other noises. I tried to move but my body was heavy. Where was I? The last thing I remembered was lying by the riverside. I slowly turned my head and through my blurred vision, I could see a woman sitting on the chair next to the bed and resting her head on the bed. I managed to use my finger to brush against her skin, “Ciera….” I called, I didn’t even know if she heard me through the oxygen mask. “Elvira….” I guess she did hear me, “You have woken up….. let me get the doctor,” She said with excitement before she rushed out of the ward. In a flash, doctors surrounded me and did some checkups. He took Ciera out of the room for a few minutes then she came back alone. I tried to move but was met with a sharp pain, I bit my lip to endure the pain. “You shouldn’t

Elvira’s POV Calix's silence felt like he didn’t want to reveal anything about his family to me. “I don’t want to argue but don’t you think it’s time for me to meet your family?” I gently placed my hand on his hand, “Don’t you think it’s time for me to meet my husband’s family?” With a straight face Calix said, “When you get better then we can arrange a dinner with my grandparents, they would be happy to meet you.” I nodded my head, I didn’t want to push, “I have just woken up from such a surgery, my result might have come back good but wouldn’t it be nice to be at the hospital and get monitored for a while?” “I understand your concerns,” Calix said, “But I can’t trust anyone at the moment, the killer might come here to finish what he started and the house is safer.” I nodded my head in understanding, “Sure.” I watched Ciera and Calix make all the arrangements for my discharge and took me home in a wheelchair. “Look who is back,” Karisa’s annoying voice echoed in the li

Elvira’s POV That was a weird statement coming out of Akira’s mouth. Who taught her words like that? “Baby, where did you hear that?” “I heard it from….” “Mrs Kyrell,” Becky called before Akira could speak. I glared at her with irritation, “Why didn’t you knock before you entered?” “I’m sorry,” She slightly bowed her head, “It’s time to connect your IV back and it’s time for Akira to see her doctor.” I checked the wall clock, “Did her therapy time change?” “No, her doctor is early today and you need your IV connected too,” Becky explained and I nodded my head. “I will come to you when I’m better,” I planted a kiss on Akira’s cheek, then her nurse helped her walk out of the room. I was so proud seeing my daughter walk again. Just a few months ago, I was happy about her opening her eyes and now she can walk. “Becky,” I called, “What relationship do Chloe and Calix share?” I’m sure Akira heard something but she is a child and won’t be able to interpret it for me.
