ELODIEIf there had been anyone else in the room, maybe I would have had to guess whose laps I had fallen onto but it was just him and me in here. That only meant one thing. I choked on air at the thought, my eyes shutting in embarrassment. How? How could this be? I would have been satisfied with falling face flat on the ground. Why did I have to land in his laps of all places? “I wish to allow you to remain in this position but then you would have to adjust yourself well, munchkin.” Lycan Maximus demanded, whispering in a single breath and my eyes snapped open at once. ELODIEShame curled with the overwhelming jealousy in my chest, and I realized I had seen enough. What good would it do to continue watching them? I walked away from the dining hall, my heart sinking low into my stomach. Maybe what I had just witnessed was a cue for me to stop being so attracted to Lycan Maximus. I hadn’t been able to admit it to myself all this while, and now I could see it was because I already knew in my heart that nurturing feelings for someone like him was a bad call. He might be my mate now, but our union has been nothing but a contract. He could reject me anytime. So if what I had just seen told me something, it was that I should tame my attraction to him before it grew into something bigger and uncontrollable. I spent the rest of the day locked in my room. ELODIEBefore I could sell myself out any further, I snapped. “Why would I be jealous?” I scoffed ridiculously, moving past him and weaving through the lake before he could get to me. As much as I would have loved if I didn’t come across anyone, since I couldn’t exactly undo it, I didn’t stop walking. “What’s going on here?” I questioned as I stopped in front of them. They all gave respectful bows before one of them took the lead and spoke, “The Lycan King asked that we take care of you.” My expression distorted into confusion at that instant. Lycan Maximus brought me to the house himself. I might have came in before him but one could basically say that we arrived at the same time. He now had a noticeable chin stubble but aside that, he hadn’t changed that much. Except that I noticed he’d gotten a bit lean. The kind that shows he must have been going through a lot of stress lately. Still, that didn’t stop me from maintaining my stance, my hand holding even more tightly onto the doorknob. Damian sighed as if he expected my reaction. “Yes, I know you have the right to be angry. But can you please hear me out first?” I stared at him with a flat expression. The second I was inside, I shut the front door hard and looked at the two guards positioned there, standing facing each other. “No one should be allowed to exit. One of you should also monitor the back door.
