บททั้งหมดของ After Betrayal: A False Heir for the Lycan King : บทที่ 1 - บทที่ 10

ELODIE Tonight, my father was stepping down from his position as the Nightstalker pack’s Alpha and handing it over to my elder brother. As the only daughter of the family, this could be a spouse finding event for me and I was supposed to be moving around, putting my face out there but I haven’t moved from my seat since we’ve been here. I just sat there, my hand clenched around the white-wine glass until my knuckles turned white. Although music was banging all around me, everywhere still seemed deadly quiet to me. So suffocating that I could feel nausea rising up in my throat. I knew this part existed but I never wanted it to come true. I never wanted to be discarded off to some influential rich man for a business alliance, but it seemed there was no escaping it after all. To the world, my father, Dante Dawson, might only seem interested in my brother’s coronation but it was all just for tonight. Within the family, we all knew I wasn’t going to be spared if my net, so wide and spr

ELODIE“What test? There’s nothing wrong with me,” I said almost immediately. Although I kept my expression calm and almost serene, a flicker of annoyance crossed my face. “But if you continue to insist,” I added coldly, even as my voice nearly trembled, “You’ll be leaving me with no choice but to report this to the Alpha.” As soon as I said that, she stiffened, her mouth going dry. I took that chance and grabbed a hold of the doorknob, dragging it away from her That was actually an empty threat. Telling my father about the doctor would mean explaining why I was here to begin with. I couldn’t afford it. But she doesn’t know that, does she? So definitely, she was going to succumb now. Or so I thought. “I…I understand but why not wait a few hours?” She whispered almost unaudibly and when my brows furrowed in confusion, she continued. “Actually no patients are moving around currently. Maximus, the Lycan King of the Silver moon pack has an appointment scheduled for this exact time. H

ELODIEThe Lycan king glared at me, not saying a word in return and fear prickled my skin. Oh no, don’t tell me I’d gotten on his nerves? I should have thought of a better way to present the proposal. Heck, maybe I shouldn’t even have considered it. Now, he knew of my identity. If this got to my father, I don’t want to imagine what would happen… “How are you so sure I need an heir?” I was on the verge of laughing it off as a joke and disappearing from the face of the earth if I could when his chilling voice cut through my thoughts. “Or let me ask you this, what makes you certain I’d want to have anything to do with you, a complete stranger who no less could be a decoy?” He added, folding his arms and I might have thought he had a cold demeanor before but right now, he was terrifyingly intimidating. For a split second, my brain short-circulated. Lucky for me, almost immediately, I regained my composure. “With the rumor everywhere, I don’t think it is exactly a secret,” I told him

ELODIEBy the time I started making my way home, night had already fallen. I should have picked up my pace, but my mind was too busy replaying everything that had happened. The Lycan king despised me. Yet I appeared before him and made such a proposal. To my wildest disbelief, once I mentioned I was pregnant, he agreed to the marriage. It was as if the moon goddess had my back, because I had gone to see him in uncertainty. How could I have thought things would go my way? I arrived at the gate and sucked in a relieved breath as I walked in. If my plan hadn't fallen in place, who knows, maybe I wouldn’t have returned home at all. I would have taken for the hills. Anything to save me from the embarrassment of being disowned. “Is my father home?” I asked the first guard I met on my way in. He nodded. “He’s up in his chamber.” I flashed him a thankful smile before walking further up the staircase. I reached his chamber in no time, but standing in front of the door, I found myself hesit

ZANE“I accept your rejection.” Elodie let out and it resounded in the air like a whip, sharp and shocking. Disbelief ran through me at the coldness in her eyes. That is, before she shut the window in my face like I wasn't even worth a second glance. I tried to convince myself I wasn’t affected but on my way back, shame burned at the back of my throat. Somehow, I was disappointed. I couldn’t have expected her to accept my decision. Just like that. Severing our bond was supposed to make me feel relieved. After all, it was what I wanted. However, rather than that, it made me feel somewhat… pathetic. Did she ever even love me? Or was I just not worth the fight? “I’m back, sweetheart.” I called out as I entered my house, my voice breaking through the quiet. Avery sat up on the couch. “How was it?” She asked, glancing back at me as I crossed the room. When I reached her, I couldn’t help the smile that came on my face as I drank her in. I thought my attraction to her would die the mo
