**Kyra POV**"Let's talk," he says when we return to the house, and he leads me to the couch after he takes the dog's leash off. I follow him with nervous anticipation and sit next to him, turning my body to face him. He rests his hand on my leg and stares at the floor for a moment before looking back at me."Today was nice," he says. "Like, beyond nice.""I think so, too."I can see him biting the inside of his cheek, something he does when he's nervous or mad, to stop himself from speaking before he's ready to."I don't know what to say," he finally admits quietly."Oh." I meant to just think of the word, but it seeped out of my mouth with its tonal mix of part disappointment, part surprise, and part sadness."I'm usually good with words, Kyra. But you make me a fuckin' mess.""I'm sorry.""Don't be sorry."He recedes back into his quiet mode, staring at the floor."Maybe I should go," I say softly. He grabs onto my hand. "No, don't go.""We don't have to talk, Tor. You don't owe me

**Kyra POV**I let my feelings and desires come to the surface, pushing past any insecurities, and allow my lips and hands to explore his body while his hands slowly move over mine, caressing me in all the right places. When I reach to unzip his jeans, he grabs my hands and pulls me up."Let's wait for that."He kisses my lips."I have a better idea for tonight.""What's that?" I ask."Me licking you until you're delirious, followed by some of that apple pie you baked. Then I'm going to force myself to let you go home."Before I can say anything, he picks me up and carries me to the bedroom, putting me down to stand at the foot of his bed. He slowly begins to undress me, starting with my shirt and bra, his eyes burning as he kneels down in front of me and pulls off my shoes and socks, then goes for the button of my jeans. With his teeth.I gasp, and my hands fly to his shoulders to keep myself steady as he somehow unbuttons my pants with only his teeth and then tugs down the zipper. TOR POVAiden thinks nothing of it, and that makes me feel like shit just as much as it gives me hope. I should probably let go of her hand, but I can't. Not when she's near tears and squeezing mine so tightly. And this—this—is what Aiden is feeling. The love of his life squeezing his hand."I know... but if she woke up and could talk and move again... I could bring her home. We could hire a live-in nurse while she recovers."His hope is starting to climb to unrealistic levels, and that's not fair to him or Kyra. Or Elara. So I try to gently step in. There was a time a few years ago when we did this dance several times a week, and none of us can live like that again."Ash, she may not come back like that," I say quietly. I hate to kill his buzz in any way, but Elara suffered a severe brain injury. The chances of her ever being able to talk and make full sense are slim. "I think you need to really think about this long and hard and grill the shit out of the doctors about the experiment

Kyra POV"Perfect timing. I just got here," he says when I let myself into his house, which is something he insists on. He hates when I knock. We kiss hello—a sweet, soft kiss on the lips—and we're both smiling as we do so. I still get butterflies when I see him, even though it’s been a few weeks since we officially started seeing each other as a couple."I have to take the great white furry one for his walk. You want to come?""Of course."Diogee starts to prance as soon as he sees Tor get his leash, and then he waits by the French doors that lead to the backyard for Tor to snap his leash onto his collar. We walk through the backyard and out the gate leading to the woods. In just the past few weeks, we've started to develop even more rituals, like walking the dog together."How was the ride?" I ask."Good. Humid, though. We rode down Hampton Beach, and it reminded me of your prom night.""Ugh, don't remind me of that.""It seems like so long ago, doesn't it?"I nod as we pause for Di

TOR POV"Did you tell him yet?" I ask her softly. Her breathing is slow and even in the dim room next to me, but I know she's awake."Not yet."I turn on my side and prop my head up on my arm."You have to tell him, Em.""I know...I just don't want to hurt him. I don't think he'll understand."I reach across the bed and touch her hand."He loves you. He'll understand. Trust me, he just wants you to be happy.""I know...but I'm afraid he'll think it's like I'm leaving him in a way," she lets out a shaky sigh. "And I'm not. I just want to do my own thing. I'm always going to be Aiden's wife in Ashes & Elaras, you know? They think of me as a backup singer. People don't see me as anything else. In my own band, I'll be me."She turns her head toward me."Does that make sense?""It does. You have to do what's good for you, Elara. You can't just be Aiden's wife and Kyra's mom—you have to be you, too. You're an amazing singer, and I think your own band will do awesome. An all-girl rock band i
