Jason POV I waited for Samuel before going to main lobby to see our guests. From what I had been told, Rafe was here with his Beta and Layla’s parents. I hated that we were trying to protect our possible mate from her family. Rafe did not bother me, and his sleezy Beta deserved whatever he got. Samuel came through the back doors, entering my office. “Who is with him?” he asked. “Her parents,” I muttered. “Fuck!” Samuel growled. “We need to go; we cannot keep them waiting any longer,” I stated as I moved towards the door. “Let’s play it by ear and see what they believe they know,” Samuel commented as we exited my office. The group was waiting inside our lobby, with our Beta standing guard. “Is she here?” Rafe was asking him, trying to command our Beta to speak. Our Beta was strong and often surprised people with his ability to defy a command. We had worked with him for a couple of

Layla POV My heart sank, as I heard the creepy voice of the Beta from the East Forest Pack. “I know you are in here. I can smell your fear,” he murmurs like he is hunting his prey. He is hunting, I remind myself. I gave myself a shake, and leapt forward onto the Beta’s back, using the scalpel I had pick up to slice into his neck. He roared from the pain and shock, reaching up and grabbing my wrist. He tugged, pulling me over his head and slamming me into the wall. He worked to stem the flow of blood dripping down his neck, as I rolled around on the floor trying to get back on my feet. I knew I needed to get up, if I wanted to fight him off. “You surprised me, bitch,” he muttered, as his wolf worked to heal his wounds. I had a weapon when I had sliced into him, but he took me off him before I could hit the right spot to end him. “It seems you are a bit stronger than we gave you cred

Jason POV I slowly turned back to face Layla. “I do not hate you,” I stated before continuing, “I simply do not know what is going to happen. I need to protect myself from whatever may come,” I shared honestly. I saw the hurt in her eyes, but I also saw the anger. “You are the ones who told me you thought we may be mates. I did not make that statement,” Layla reminded me angrily. “I know, and I regret that,” I admitted. Her cheeks flushed with anger. “Well, isn’t that just special – leave me!” she yelled in true royal fashion. I wanted to argue with her, but I knew it was best to leave now. Samuel stayed behind and I envied his ability to be trusting and hopeful. I simply could not be as hopeful given who we were dealing with – primarily Rafe. As I left the pack hospital, I went directly to the pack house. Turning towards my office, I cringed inside when I saw Elder David walkin

Layla POV I sat back, trying to contain my fear and disappointment. Jason and Samuel had made promises to their Elder Council. Promises that could not simply be ignored. I understood pack politics. The Elder Council was very influential in the operation of the pack. This pack would be no different. If we were not able to find a witch to remove the spell, I would very likely be sent back to Rafe. Given the threat of being a bargaining chip for the twins to adhere to the desires of the Elder Council, I had to consider my options. I needed to get access to a phone and soon. I knew once I spoke with my mother, I would be able to convince her to help me. A nurse walked into the room, as Samuel stepped away from the bed. I instantly missed his touch. Even if I did not feel sparks, there was a certain level of comfort when he held my hand. “I need to call J

Samuel POV I turned away from everyone, responding to Elder David, “What do you mean?” I demanded through our mind-link. “She tricked me – she is gone!” Elder David responded. “How was that possible? You do not let people escape from you! You had warriors with you!” Jason exclaimed through the mind-link. “I am sorry, Alphas. I have failed you,” the elder responded, sounding defeated. “Search for her and find her!” Jason roared. I turned back to Layla’s parents, “We do not know where she is,” I restated. “She is safe now, you can bring her back to us,” Julia stated. “She escaped from our elder and warriors,” Jason admitted. Eric looked at him, doubt on his features. “I am struggling to understand how an abused, young woman without her wolf could escape from the elder and the warriors,” Eric stated suspiciously. “They are searching for her now,” I shared. “Get a tracker.
