Jason POV “I have advised them to keep her hidden until we find out what the Wolf Council wants,” I shared with everyone. “What?” Julia questioned. “We cannot trust the Wolf Council and what Rafe has r with t hem,” Eric agreed. “I want to see my daughter!” Julia exclaimed. “As do I, but we need to wait a little bit longer,” Eric commented. Before we could say anything else, an SUV rounded the corner, and game to a squealing stop in front of the pack house. “Was that really necessary?” Samuel inquired dryly. “You know damn well it was,” the man stepping from the vehicle stated. “And what rock did you crawl out from under, Lucas?” I questioned. I had known Lucas for many years. He had been from a neighbouring pack before being recruited to the Wolf Council. He and I had never seen eye to eye on things. It concerned me that he was one of the Wolf Council representatives. “I co

Samuel POV My heart sank as I heard the voice behind me, “So you do know where she is,” Alpha Lucas stated. Jason’s face went red with anger. Why had our guards not warned us Lucas and James were on their way back here. “Before you give them shit, I commanded your guards to keep their mouths shut about where we were,” Lucas smirked. Jason stepped forward, “You do not have the authority to direct our guards,” he reminded Lucas. “Let’s just say I had a hunch you were hiding some information,” Lucas responded. “So, where is she?” Lucas continued. “What did you determine from Rafe?” I countered. Lucas looked at me, “Do you really need to ask? It is apparent that you are helping the woman avoid her mate,” Lucas surmised. “Rafe has been abusing her; if we thought you would treat her fairly, we would bring her forward,” Jason admitted. Lucas looked at Jason, anger filling his face.

Layla POV I watched through the smoke as it started to settle. And then I saw something I had never anticipated. “Daddy?” I whispered. I had not called my father “daddy” since I was a pup, but I could not help myself. The feelings of overwhelm at the thoughts that my father had found me were overwhelming. “Baby girl?” I heard faintly from behind him. “Mom?” I questioned, knowing I was yelling as I was unable to easily hear the visions in front of me. Was this all a dream and I could no longer decipher truth from fantasy? I watched as the visions in front of me moved closer. I had a moment of realization. If these were my parents, I needed to be cautious. They wanted to return me to Rafe. I took a cautious step backwards, “Stay back," I stated, continuing to move away from them. “Layla, it is mom and dad,” I heard my mother repeat over and over. “You want to send me back to hi

Layla POV I had been sitting in my room for a couple of hours now. Cami and my mom were researching how they could break the spell. I could not stop thinking about the twins. I wanted to be there. To be certain they were okay. I did not even have a phone number or a way to reach them. I heard a knock on the door, “Come in,” I replied. My brother entered my room, “How are you doing?” Lucas asked. I looked at him, “Honestly? Relieved to be away from Rafe and his Beta; worried for the Alpha Twins who helped me,” I admitted. “I can see that. I am sorry we did not do more to ensure you were okay with Rafe,” Lucas stated. I looked at him, “It was not your fault. Rafe was very good at hiding his true self. Until we got off our territory. Then everything went bad from there,” I shared. As I told Lucas everything that had happened, I could see the rage rising in him. “I am not telling you to be mad

Layla POV “Just breathe with me,” my mom tried saying as she worked to drag my frantic eyes to look at her. The pain was excruciating. I had been like this for hours. Cami had been working hard. I could see the sweat dripping from her face; I could feel the tension in the room. Both Jackson and my father were continuously checking on me and their mates. My brother had tried to stop them at one point, the screams coming from my body were unbearable to listen to. I lay there, feeling a wave release the pain I had been experiencing. “Is it over? Is the spell gone?” I whispered through parched lips. Cami slouched back in her chair, as Jackson moved forward to lift Cami into his lap. “I am sorry, Layla. I need to bring in more help,” she admitted, sounding exhausted and defeated. I felt disappointment rise within me before I could contain it. “We will figure this out,” my mom stat
