Layla POV I was being held in a dark room. Elder David had first shoved me inside and left me behind. I screamed to be released and then got scared I was being left here for good. I paced the room, noticing a small cot off to one side. There were a chair and a desk to the other side. I had no idea what this was at one time, but it was clear it had been long since abandoned. I returned to the door, pounding for help. After a period of time, my hand was sore from hitting it on the door for so long. My body was aching, not being able to heal myself. Tears filled my eyes as I wondered what was going on. He was supposed to take me somewhere safe. I did not feel safe. I was terrified. I slid down the door, rolling over and letting my face rest against the cold floor. The tears continued to drip down my cheeks, as I closed my eyes. What seemed like instantaneously, I heard a ba
Jason POV “I have advised them to keep her hidden until we find out what the Wolf Council wants,” I shared with everyone. “What?” Julia questioned. “We cannot trust the Wolf Council and what Rafe has r with t hem,” Eric agreed. “I want to see my daughter!” Julia exclaimed. “As do I, but we need to wait a little bit longer,” Eric commented. Before we could say anything else, an SUV rounded the corner, and game to a squealing stop in front of the pack house. “Was that really necessary?” Samuel inquired dryly. “You know damn well it was,” the man stepping from the vehicle stated. “And what rock did you crawl out from under, Lucas?” I questioned. I had known Lucas for many years. He had been from a neighbouring pack before being recruited to the Wolf Council. He and I had never seen eye to eye on things. It concerned me that he was one of the Wolf Council representatives. “I c
Samuel POV I turned away from everyone, responding to Elder David, “What do you mean?” I demanded through our mind-link. “She tricked me – she is gone!” Elder David responded. “How was that possible? You do not let people escape from you! You had warriors with you!” Jason exclaimed through the mind-link. “I am sorry, Alphas. I have failed you,” the elder responded, sounding defeated. “Search for her and find her!” Jason roared. I turned back to Layla’s parents, “We do not know where she is,” I restated. “She is safe now, you can bring her back to us,” Julia stated. “She escaped from our elder and warriors,” Jason admitted. Eric looked at him, doubt on his features. “I am struggling to understand how an abused, young woman without her wolf could escape from the elder and the warriors,” Eric stated suspiciously. “They are searching for her now,” I shared. “Get a tracker. Jason POVIt nearly broke me to watch Layla plead with Samuel to let her stay. It was not safe for her here, and we had to think about that reality. I knew there would be repercussions to follow for hiding her. However, it was all worth it, if it meant we could protect her from the life being forced upon her.I cursed the Moon Goddess for putting us in this position. To have been so close to having our fated mate, to now being forced to watch her be taken from us. “Let’s go, Samuel,” I stated, as we both looked to one another before walking back to the pack house.I knew the cavalry was close and that it would include Rafe. We had arrived at the pack house the exact time the others had arrived. Prince Eric was out of his car before it had stopped moving. He raced towards us and we braced for what was to come.He punched Samuel in the face, before turning on me. “Where is she?” Eric demanded. I looked at him, and then towards where Rafe was standing. He was smirking, knowing
Layla POV I sat back, trying to contain my fear and disappointment. Jason and Samuel had made promises to their Elder Council. Promises that could not simply be ignored. I understood pack politics. The Elder Council was very influential in the operation of the pack. This pack would be no different. If we were not able to find a witch to remove the spell, I would very likely be sent back to Rafe. Given the threat of being a bargaining chip for the twins to adhere to the desires of the Elder Council, I had to consider my options. I needed to get access to a phone and soon. I knew once I spoke with my mother, I would be able to convince her to help me. A nurse walked into the room, as Samuel stepped away from the bed. I instantly missed his touch. Even if I did not feel sparks, there was a certain level of comfort when he held my hand. “I need to call J
Samuel POV I looked from Elder David and then to Layla. I could see she was uncomfortable with the elder entering her room. I moved to usher him out of the room, but he quickly he stepped around me and moved towards Layla. I immediately stepped between him and Layla. “What do you need, Elder David?” I questioned. “I heard we had a special guest, and I wanted to personally welcome her, on behalf of the Elders,” David continued. Layla remained tense, her body poised to protect herself. I did not want her feeling threatened and suggested the elder take this conversation out of the room. “What is your name dear?” the elder inquired, ignoring my request. Layla looked helplessly at me. I stepped closer to her, hoping my presence offered some type of comfort. “This is Layla,” I muttered as the elder eyed Layla. He moved to reach his hand out to shake her hand when I took hold of his wri
