"I went to Sicily on business, and I thought I'd stop in to see her so you wouldn't worry. I found her in a terrible situation, so I brought her back. Who is she to sell it without asking me?!"The manager shrugged to show he knew nothing about it, then went around him.Charles pulled out his phone in a rage and called Selina again. The call didn't go through.His knuckles were white. He threw the phone down and it cracked apart on the ground in pieces.He drove back to the estate, and the first thing he did at home was tear through the house looking for anything Selina had left behind that might tell him something.There was no way left for him to find her.Selina had blocked him, sold off the shops, and disposed of the country house that held all their memories without any difficulty at all.The unease in him kept getting worse.

The circle opened, and Susie looked up. Her eyes met Charles's.He opened his mouth to speak, but Susie looked away and smiled at the partners. "If everyone's agreed, come into the office and we'll sign."The partners laughed and crowded toward his office one after another, satisfaction all over their faces.Charles stood frozen. Susie having solved the problem gave him no pleasure at all. If anything, he had hoped to see Selina when the crowd parted.Susie said, smiling, "I got it handled, so relax. And they're locked in with us for the next five years.""How did you do it?" Charles asked absently."You'll find out." Susie winked at him.Charles did not press her and changed the subject. "It isn't safe for you at the estate now. I'm busy, and I can't get free to protect you, so I'll have someone find you a house out in the country. Charles stood there, stunned.Every word of Susie's accusation was correct.
