“I'm going to miss this place, I'm going to miss you." He pushed himself up from the leaner of the couch and approached her, So I thought, why not make one last memory, one last good memory." He took her hands in his and wrapped her arms around his neck as he pushed play on the remote. A Moment Like This by Leona Lewis sounded through the speaker and his gaze locked with hers. Slowly he swayed them from side to side, softly singing the song to her as he did, every word laced with love and promise. That moment would be one she cherished forever because in that one moment his eyes said to her everything his lips never did, and strangely enough, she felt content. They would always have the memories they made together. “You are the world and more Sierra Brightly." He whispered when the song softened to a close. “Thank you for every laugh, for every memory, for every moment you gave me, Roman. Meeting you will always be my life's greatest adventure." She reached up and placed a lingering on his cheek, feeling tears burn the back of her eyes as she did. “Ready to go?" He asked when she stepped back. “Yeah, yeah I am." She in a deep breath and turned to the door. *** Sierra and Roman are two kindred spirits both hurt by love, sent halfway across the world for work. Chapter One
AN OFFER OF A LIFETIME Sierra walked through the corridors of the research center with a knot in her stomach. It was just after midday on a Friday in the midst of summer; she was preparing to go home early after a successful week when a member of her junior staff informed her that the Chief of Staff requested her presence in his office.  You’d think she was nervous about what he had to say, but instead, the nerves that knotted in her stomach weren’t at all work-related. Many over the years called her a workaholic which was why leaving early was a big deal for her, but the dinner with her boyfriend that evening was a big deal.  Brent and Sierra were introduced by a mutual friend shortly after she finished college and they’d been going strong for five years.&nbs

Chapter Two
HEARTBREAK AND BETRAYAL The yellow maxi dress complimented her olive skin tone perfectly and the little extra height that came with the white heels she wore made her appear thinner than she was. The clock beside her bed read five-thirty, giving her enough to scrutinize her appearance in the mirror before she had to leave for the restaurant. She fingered the perfect ringlets of her black hair, wishing it were shorter, but Brent loved her long hair, so she never cut it much. Her left hand froze in her hair, in the mirror all she could see was the french ombre she had done the day before, but when she closed her eyes she could picture a simple princess cut ring around her finger.   The thought made a pleasurable shiver run down her spine, God knows she’d been waiting for thi

PAIN   She always considered him to be the more romantic one between them, she always felt lucky to have a man who would go out of his way to make her happy and feel loved. She sifted through her brain, hoping to find some indication of the direction his thoughts were headed in but found none. Apart from the strange behavior in the past few weeks, he never gave her reason to believe he was doubting their relationship and that reality hurt more than anything.    Seated in her car with silent tears flowing down her face, she watched the door of the restaurant, waiting with hope that he would emerge and rush over to her to tell her what a big mistake he’d made, but no one ever appeared.    She felt numb as she made the twenty-minute drive home, concentrating only on following the

Chapter Four
MAKING A DECISION   News of their breakup spread amongst their mutual friends quicker than Sierra would have liked, when the first call came all she wanted to do was crawl in a hole and hide away, everyone had heard what happened, though it was Brent’s skewed version of how they came to a mutual agreement, she figured it best to let them believe she hadn’t been dumped, it soothed her heart a little.    Sierra wasn’t by any means a loner, she made friends quite easily and had a few close friends, those being the only ones she felt comfortable telling the truth to so when Macy finally heard the news and decided to round up the girls for a weekend of cliche ice cream and movies, Sierra gave in, she needed to get out of her head and having the four crazy women over would do just that.

A FAMILY OF FRIENDS   “That escalated quickly.” Macy cringed, looking at Lou’s shocked eyes.    “What just happened?” Lou asked, staring in the direction Elena disappeared.    “She’s got a point, Lou. If something happens between you, you might not say it out loud but somehow she’s going to be forced to pick sides and that’s not fair to her. He’s her brother and you’re her best friend, she shouldn’t have to bear the consequences of your actions.” Susie pointed out, munching on a carrot stick.    “I would never ask her to choose, I would never expect her to pick me over her brother.” Lou frowned, her shoulders sagging.    “Maybe you wouldn’t, but what

BOSS LADY The evening with her friends turned out to be just what Sierra needed, with Lou and Elena’s little drama becoming the main topic of discussion, she was glad she wasn’t the topic of discussion, because while Brent had broken her heart, she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to sit through a typical “bash-the-ex” session which they usually had when one of them went through a breakup in college.  In her eyes Brent wasn’t a bad person, she still loved him as much as she had before he broke her heart and because of that, she was still learning to think of him as the villain in the story.  Her friends had all left early, needing to get back to their lives, which left Sierra with only one thing to do to put off calling her parents and that

ADDING SALT TO THE WOUND Every evening when Sierra returned home from work her apartment smelled of a new dish her mom conjured up, the past three weeks she spent with her mother around and her father visiting on weekends made her feel a lot less lonely, in many ways it helped keep her mind off Brent who she had yet to hear from.  She wasn’t sure why she held her breath, perhaps she was hoping he would come to his senses and realize that he was wrong, but that hadn’t happened and she felt herself becoming more depressed every night that she went to bed without a call from him.  She knew she could swallow her pride and call him, but she didn’t want to force herself on him, the last thing she could handle was hearing that she wasn’t good enough for him aga

AUNT ECCENTRIC “That son of a-” My mom threw her hand over Aunt Mitsy’s mouth just in time to muffle the curse word that was escaping.  “Mitsy, there are kids here!” Little Ethan watched them with deep interest from his father’s lap, soaking in all the information he could. Macy’s son was just learning to talk and kids are notorious for picking up swear words the fastest.  “I’m sorry, I’m just so furious, I could kill him!” Aunt Mitsy fumed, throwing her tiny fists down on the picnic table.  “Aunt Mits, it’s really okay. I- nothing can change what happened, to be honest, even if I could turn back the clock, I don’t think I want to.

GREENER PASTURES The night before her departure, Sierra could hardly sleep, she wasn’t sure whether it was out of excitement or nervousness, but her heart was pounding in her chest and hadn’t stopped since.  She was currently standing in the airport, having already checked in online, she didn’t need to wait in the queue since all her luggage had been shipped a week before. Her carry-on laid at her feet with her handbag perched on top she started at the departure gate seeing people hugging their loved ones goodbye, wishing them a safe trip, her parents had minutes ago ventured to buy her snacks for the plane even though she protested that she could purchase anything she wanted on the plane itself, she suspected they disappeared so she wouldn’t see them get emotional.

THE DEAL Singapore was quickly growing on Sierra, she enjoyed the contemporary modern culture that the city had to offer, in her brief tour with Ken she’d seen much of what it had to offer and made a mental list of things to do while she was in the city.  In the three days she’d been there, she never felt out of place, people were welcoming beyond measure and spoke quite good English. She had yet to cook in the beautiful kitchen she was provided, but in the meanwhile was enjoying the different cuisines, thus far, she enjoyed the Malaysian food the most.  Paging through the folder in hand, Sierra’s eyes fell on the directions to the ice-cream parlor that Ken swore was the best ice cream in the world. In a split second she decided she wanted to try it out that n
