What Are The Best Manhwa Cheating Romance Series To Read?

I’m here for the art. Some of these panels are literal wallpaper. I mean that in the best possible way. The lighting in “Like Wind on a Dry Branch” is just really beautiful. And the costume details in “The Fantasie of a Stepmother” are incredible. Sometimes I find myself reading a story just to slowly scroll through the pages to take in all of the art. The romance reads intensely when every glance is beautifully framed. Is anyone else here reading for aesthetic reasons?

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents to all of these great suggestions. My bookmarks are a hot mess of randomly added sites that I have no idea how to search for by name.

Of course, the biggest variety within this category are probably the titles that hybridize different genres in interesting ways. So for example an infidelity manhwa with fantasy elements, like the FL possibly getting supernatural assistance or possibly be reincarnated into a new body, would, if done right, be able to provide a very pure form of wish-fulfillment for the kind of story where the FL seeks revenge or recovery from an ex’s betrayals. And here the main interest lies in the various and creative ways in which the special rules that govern such fantasy stories can result in spectacular, unambiguous comeuppance for the lecherous hero, or in a deeply moving and satisfying recovery for the woman. On the other hand, a very realistic take on a manhwa can be so satisfying because it’s so, so, real. A bittersweet ending where the FL is happier but scarred for life is so much more satisfying than a mushy ending where everything is wrapped up all neat and pretty. The FL’s ex may not get his comeuppance but he can be shown to be mediocre for the rest of his life, which is very satisfying to read. Again, it comes back to what the reader is looking for in a story. Are they looking for a way to escape reality or do they want to read about reality and how people can heal from their pasts in realistic ways? The ending should be satisfying in that it feels like it belongs to the story. The ending should feel like it grew from the story’s own soil, not from some other story.

Will there be additional or improved art in the official print volumes or special editions? I have heard of cases where pages have been reworked and even previously black and white scenes given color for the print edition. Given that this ‘definitive’ version will likely not appear in print internationally at the same time as the digital versions are being read by fans as the work in progress / weekly installments, the appearance of the art in print would be in contrast to what fans are currently reading. The digital version is the rough / work in progress, the print version is the finished, edited and selected work. It would be interesting to compare the two for an art-heavy series and see the artist’s changes throughout.

Sometimes the best way to experience a reading series is in their entirety, be it just published or complete. “Bastard” (webtoon) by Carnby Kim is a great thriller series to binge. The story follows the son of a serial killer as he uncovers a secret about his father. It is highly suspenseful, have very real and relatable flawed characters, and is presented in a largely black and white comic that reinforces the oppressive atmosphere of the story. It’s a tight, character-focused horror novel that deals with families, guilt, and survival. And since it’s completed, you can devour the whole, intense story all at once, which I feel is the right way to read a thriller like this. If you want to see the best kind of psychological horror that manhwa has to offer, then this is a good place to start.

I'm a r/manhwa lurker. A new chapter will be posted and then commented with the link to read it in the comments within minutes of the post. Then I click on the link, read it, and close the tab. This is the ultimate low-effort method for keeping up with my favorite manga. I don't even have to bookmark sites anymore since Reddit is my default homepage for reading manga. Also, discussions in the community help me distinguish between a bad translation and a bad site. It turns reading manga into a social experience instead of just searching for sites. The knowledge of the community is even more valuable than a list of "the best sites to read manga". It turns reading Manhwa into a social, communal activity and the crowd-sourced knowledge of a community is far more valuable than any ‘best site’ list.

I have noticed a pattern with romance manhwa that get to be animated or get a drama. They receive a boost in ratings from new fans, and then are subsequently critiqued more in depth by readers once they have been completed. For example, True Beauty received astronomical ratings when it was first up for reading, but after the drama came out, there was a wave of more in-depth reviews, discussing the repetitive cycles found in the webtoon. The initial high rating score for the manhwa reflected how addictive and good it was for a “binge-read”, whereas the later critical reviews found the same and added more depth to the praises. 'What's Wrong with Secretary Kim' also has a high rating and it also attracts millions of new readers through the live-action drama. However, these days, the webtoon itself is rated by many, including webtoon purists and drama fans, in the review section. So, be careful because the high rating of the manhwa may come from the cross-media boom and always check the date of the reviews to see whether they were written before or after the drama was released.

Unorganized as it is, this is how I do things. My bookmark page has over 15 different manhwa sites all neatly organized in folders. When searching for a specific series I normally open 3-4 of the sites in different tabs and compare the following: image quality, ad size (with ad blocker enabled of course), and how user friendly the site is to read. It adds about a minute to finding a series but 9 times out of 10 I’ll find a better version of the manhwa than what I would have found by clicking the first result in a Google search. I do this because it is basically digital window shopping for the best way to read a series. The “best” site to read a series can change from series to series, and even within a series from chapter to chapter, depending on how up to date the best mirror is.

“The Ember Knight” is a niche book that looks really simple at first but is actually very smart. The characters are all unique even with their helmets on, it’s a very strategic and well actioned book, and the use of shadow and silhouette is brilliant for mystery and tension. A book of complex plot to be served by smart art. Rather than big, splashy, energy based pages, you get cleverly composed pages that encourage rereading and thought. Very clever and therefore worthy of commendation.
