Where Can I Download Agatha Christie Novels On Amazon Kindle For Free?

That would be amazing! YouTube is really great for loads of things, but unfortunately it’s not a reliable resource for an audiobook library. Some individual stories might be found on dedicated book channels, but novels are usually far too commercial for YouTube, and are therefore rigorously monitored for rights. What you can find on YouTube are full-cast radio dramatisations of the stories by the BBC. A search for ‘BBC Agatha Christie radio drama’ will throw up some wonderful programmes, such as the ‘Miss Marple’ series featuring June Whitfield, and Poirot stories featuring John Moffat. These are full and rich sounding, and are very abridged, but as a ‘free to view’ option on YouTube, they’re a great way to experience the stories in a different way. As an alternative medium to audiobooks, they’re really rather wonderful.

Most people have no idea how to load other types of books, but your Paperwhite can read Kindle formats (AZW, AZW3, KFX) as well as MOBI and PDF files. MOBI files, for example, are often old public domain books, and lack many of the new features of Kindle books. AZW3 and EPUB books are much better choices if you plan to sideload many books, and Amazon will even convert an EPUB for you via Send to Kindle. The real backbone of this type of loading, however, is Calibre. For those users with huge collections of free books, from various sources, added complexity for such users is provided by Calibre to manage all those books on their Paperwhite. A huge learning curve needs to be traversed though in order to achieve that. For those users that grab loads of free e-books and require a lot of features on their e-reader, Calibre is the answer, making the user’s locked-down Amazon e-reader a universal e-reader. For simple, ‘out-of-the-box’ usage though, stick to Amazon’s way of delivering content to your Kindle and use Libby for your loaned e-books.

It’s much easier than you think to read light novels free. The Devil Is a Part-Timer! and other novels are included in Amazon’s Prime Reading selection, meaning you can read them for free if you’re a Prime member. Alternatively, many permanent free Kindle books such as The Alchemist Who Survived are listed in the Free Kindle Books section. I’ve even stumbled upon novels I wouldn’t have otherwise thought to check out, like Ascendance of a Bookworm, here. Even novels typically sold for premium prices such as the Sword Art Online Progressive omnibus can be had for free during certain campaigns. Just make sure to check the “Sold by” label to ensure that it is the publisher or an official source offering it for free.

Does this work for audiobooks too? Is that a whole different ball of wax when it comes to Audible subscriptions, or could we make this work for that too? Sorry for the detour, I am curious though.

The most practical way to access Free Kindle Books is through your existing Amazon account. Go to the Kindle Store on your computer browser (not through the Kindle app on your devices – the restrictions around platforms don’t currently allow this). In the search box at the top of the screen of the Kindle Store, type ‘free kindle books’ and press Enter. Then on the left of the screen, click on the word Filter by; in the drop-down menu that appears, click on Departments and select the relevant genre. Next, click on one of the Featured Categories on the left, such as Kindle eBooks, and finally click on the word Price in the panel on the left and select $0.00 to $0.00. This will display a long list of ALL currently free Kindle books in that genre. Note that there are thousands of Free Kindle Books in the most popular genres, so you will have to scroll through page after page. However, the books are listed in order of newest publications, and by average customer review. So, while not as easy to access as some of the other methods to find Free Kindle Books, it’s the most direct way to access ALL the currently available Free Kindle Books of any genre.

The core transaction is a sale. You pay for a permanent license to a digital book. The act of downloading a book is simply how you get the book onto your reading device, e.g. your eReader, your computer, your Kindle app on your tablet etc. Note that we are not talking about a stream – a stream requires you to have an active internet connection and for you to subscribe to a service. But once downloaded, you can read the book offline, so for example, you could purchase and download a bunch of books before a flight, turn off your phone in airplane mode and then read the books offline on your phone or tablet.

You can still get loads of free Kindle books even if you don't have a Prime membership. Many of these will be listed in the ‘Top 100 Free’ section of the Kindle Store, but there are also many free books promoted by individual authors. You can also find many free books on certain platforms, where you can download them in exchange for leaving a honest review. Recently I downloaded ‘SINFUL PLEASURES: Short Filthy Stories’ to my Kindle for example – it’s a collection of very short, but very filthy, stories that can be read in a few minutes and are perfect for popping on your Kindle to read on your daily commute or while you’re taking a break from work.

The base of the story is a creepy rhyme, a counting song in which things disappear one by one. Whatever the original rhyme was to count down to, the specifics of it are not important to the plot as it was developed in the modern version. The change from ‘ten little ns’ to ‘ten little soldiers’ in the updated version and the use of the last line of the rhyme as the title of the book actually serves to make the story more connected to the island that is the setting for the story, Soldier Island. In fact the editorial changes served to make the murder even more elegant and intentionally conducted than they were in the original. Instead of being the result of some racist folklore viciously culled from the annals of unpleasant history, the method of the killer’s murder of his victims was actually part of the overall plan and therefore more intentional.

Free e-books are so much easier to get hold of than you think. My Paperwhite is full of free novels, I get all my free eBooks straight to my Kindle and they are just there. Amazon do offer Kindle Unlimited which is not free but you can get access to a large library of eBooks for a monthly fee. Prime Members also get access to free eBooks every month as part of ‘Prime Reading’ where they can choose from a selection of free eBooks including bestsellers like ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. I actually get my bulk of indie eBooks from Smashwords (which always have a permanently free option) and I just downloaded a rather quirky sci-fi series here last month. The Kindle Paperwhite integrates rather nicely with Goodreads as well and on that site you can find community lists that indicate when a book is temporarily free as well. If you have a specific interest in niche topics such as sci-fi and fantasy, Baen Books has a decent-sized free library that’s worth checking out as well as Google Play Books’ free section of books. Of course, free books are always great to read on your Kindle, and with Sideloading your Paperwhite via USB, you can actually have your free eBook within seconds of downloading it. Your Paperwhite reads EPUBs converted to AZW perfectly, making for a lightweight and highly portable reading solution – ideal for long reading sessions where you may be reading a classic or a contemporary free read.

I wanted to be able to read on my phone, but I didn’t want to be tied to my Kindle hardware. The Kindle app for your iOS or Android phone or tablet works really well. You need to have an Amazon account to log in to the app and download books that you have previously purchased. For new books, you can download them to read on your phone as well. I have even added borrowed books (from friends and from the library) to my phone. I use Calibre to convert the book to a MOBI file and then I email it to my Kindle address. One minor obstacle I faced was with books that had DRM. To get around this I occasionally use the ‘Unlock Ebook’ functionality within Epubor Ultimate (I’m very aware this is usually classed as copyright infringement, and thus use it sparingly). Otherwise it’s very easy to organize your books with tags. The ‘Send to Kindle’ functionality from desktop applications works very well for me with my academic PDFs, just check the supported file types on Amazon first.
