Don't overlook middle-grade or YA for cozy feels! 'The Secret Garden' has a subtle, budding romance between Mary Lennox and Dickon that’s more about a shared love for nature and renewal. The book’s core is about healing and the magic of a garden coming back to life. It’s a profoundly comforting read that makes you believe in second chances. The love story is gentle and understated, woven into a larger tapestry of friendship and personal growth. It’s my ultimate comfort re-read.
For a dash of Gothic atmosphere without the terror, try 'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier. The central love story with Maxim de Winter is complex and dark, but the coziness (for me) comes from the immersive, moody descriptions of Manderley estate and the tension of the second Mrs. de Winter navigating her new life. It’s a gripping, atmospheric read that you can get lost in for a whole weekend, though it’s not traditionally 'sweet'.
Cozy for me is synonymous with 'hopepunk' or solarpunk—stories that believe in a better future. 'A Psalm for the Wild-Built' by Becky Chambers is a novella about a tea monk and a robot meeting in a post-industrial world. It’s a conversation about purpose and existence. The 'love' is a deep, platonic connection and care. It’s philosophical, gentle, and feels like a balm for anxiety. The ultimate 'feel-good' read without being simplistic.
Honestly, sometimes fanfiction is the coziest because you already know the characters and world. Finding a well-written, domestic fluff fic in your favorite fandom, where the characters just cook dinner and talk, is the ultimate comfort read. It requires zero new world-building investment. I’ve spent many a weekend happily buried in AO3 tags like 'Domestic Fluff' and 'Happy Ending'. It’s a whole ecosystem of cozy.
Don't sleep on novellas! 'A Christmas Promise' by Mary Balogh is a historical romance novella that’s sweet and short. A marriage of convenience between two quiet, lonely people over the holidays. It’s like a satisfying short film—you get all the emotional payoff of a full novel in a sitting or two. The limited page count often forces a focus on emotion and connection over complex plotting, which can be perfect for a lazy afternoon.

"Fall in love with THE THORNTONS, a family filled with sexy alpha males, passionate women, and lots of heart, all set in a delightful small town in the Pacific Northwest.
It’s Christmas time, and the entire Thornton clan is spending the holidays in a cabin deep in the Washington woods.
What could go wrong with twelve adults, four kids, and a dog all staying together in one big cabin?
Only the most chaotic—and memorable—Christmas ever!
Expect kisses under the mistletoe, lots of (spiked) eggnog, and even a surprise wedding as the Thornton clan celebrates the most romantic holiday of all.
Author’s Note: I’ll Be Home for Christmas is set six months after the last book, Till There Was You, ends. It’s recommended that you read the other books first, as this book is an epilogue to the entire series. Merry Christmas and happy reading!

I’m a big mood reader, so my cozy pick depends on the season. For autumn, nothing beats 'The Simple Wild' by K.A. Tucker.
It’s a city-girl-goes-to-Alaska story, complete with a grumpy pilot love interest. The romance is a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers scenario, but the real star is the breathtaking, rugged setting and the complicated family dynamics. The descriptions of the wilderness are immersive. It’s a love story about a place and a person. It has emotional depth but is ultimately very uplifting. It makes you want to put on a flannel and breathe cold, clean air.
I prefer my weekend romance with a side of mystery. 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' by Taylor Jenkins Reid, while not pure romance, is driven by a legendary actress's epic, tumultuous love life. It's a page-turner that unfolds like a juicy documentary, revealing secrets and sacrifices. The central romance is heartbreaking and beautiful. You'll get so caught up in Evelyn's story that hours will disappear. It has the binge-quality of a limited series, making a weekend the ideal timeframe to experience its full emotional arc without interruptions.
Graphic novels are the ultimate relaxation tool for me. The combination of art and text is so absorbing and requires a different kind of focus. Something like 'Blankets' by Craig Thompson or 'This One Summer' by Mariko and Jillian Tamaki is emotionally rich but delivered in a format that feels almost meditative to move through. You can spend ages on a single beautifully rendered page. It's a complete narrative experience that somehow feels lighter than traditional reading.
Long before we saw the movies, my grandmother's worn copy of 'Pride and Prejudice' taught me that a story can make your heart ache in the best possible way, waiting for Elizabeth and Darcy to finally understand each other. For me, the most heartwarming romances are those where the characters earn their happiness through vulnerability. There’s something quietly profound about Austen’s world, where love grows through sharp conversations and honest self-reflection. The warmth comes from watching genuine respect slowly bloom between two intelligent people who challenge each other to be better.
That’s the kind of emotional satisfaction I crave in a romance—a slow, believable build rather than a series of melodramatic declarations. The story feels warm because it’s grounded in character growth. Those final chapters feel like a deep, comforting exhale after a long journey.
I find cozy romance in unexpected places. 'Attachments' by Rainbow Rowell is told through emails in 1999. A IT guy is paid to monitor company email and falls for a woman based on her funny, heartfelt messages to her friend. It's a unique premise, incredibly sweet, and captures a specific pre-social-media nostalgia. It's a quiet, lovely book.
