I looked into this pretty extensively a few months back because my eyes get tired from reading screens, and audiobooks are just easier for me. I checked the Korean publisher sites through translation tools and couldn't find any sign of an English audio version there either. Sometimes these things get licensed regionally in unexpected ways, but 'The Abandoned Empress' doesn't seem to have made that leap.

It's a bummer, because the novel's internal monologue and political scheming would work really well in audio format. Maybe the controversial ending has made publishers a bit hesitant to invest? Who knows. For now, I've resigned myself to reading it the old-fashioned way.

No official English audiobook exists, as far as I can tell after years in the OI community. Your best bet for experiencing the story audibly is through Text-to-Speech on fan translation sites, though the quality varies wildly. Some fans have done dramatic readings on YouTube, but those get taken down frequently for copyright.

Man, I wish it was easier to find. Honestly, I don't believe there is an official English audiobook for 'The Abandoned Empress'. I've combed through all the usual spots—Audible, Google Play Books, Apple Books, the publisher's site—and come up with nothing but fan content. It's one of those manhwa-novels that seems perpetually stuck in licensing limbo, where the webtoon got tons of attention but the source novel's official English translation never fully materialized.

You'll see people asking this question all the time on novel forums, and the consensus is always the same: no official audiobook exists. I'm holding out a tiny bit of hope that with the manhwa's popularity, maybe a publisher like Yen Press or Tappytoon will pick it up someday, but I'm not holding my breath. For now, if you want the story, the fan-translated web novel text or the manhwa adaptation are your main options.

Where can I find an audiobook version of Empress Orchid book?

I was desperate to listen to 'Empress Orchid' on my commute and hit a few dead ends before figuring it out. Audible has it, of course—Anchee Min's actually the narrator herself, which adds a layer I didn't expect. Her accent gives the reading a particular texture that some listeners might find a bit thick, but I got used to it after a chapter. My local library had it through the Libby app, but there was a waitlist. I ended up buying it on Google Play Audiobooks during a sale. It's also on Apple Books and Kobo. The production is straightforward, no fancy sound effects or full cast, but for a historical novel like this, the single narrator focusing on Orchid's internal voice works perfectly.
