Is Manhwa The Absolute Threshold Completed Or Ongoing?

Heard great things about this webtoon's story arc but unsure if it's still releasing chapters or fully finished—anyone following its publication schedule on Naver?

I think The Absolute Threshold is still being updated with regular chapters. I have been reading Martial Dragon Emperor S2 in the meantime. It is a completed power progression story. The series follows a lowly guard who masters a secret dragon technique to become a true emperor in the end. It is a complete and satisfying story arc.

From what I read on several official and fan-made sites about The Absolute Threshold, the story is not yet finished. In the latest chapter 78 a mysterious group was introduced and the story probably will continue to unfold the background of the story. The artwork has also changed a lot over time. Right now it looks a lot smoother then in the early chapters and the black and white coloring has improved a lot as well as the panel layout.

I really appreciate how the protagonist’s development is not linear. Sometimes he even takes a step back and can make decisions that I strongly dislike. We’re probably at around 60% of the end of the plot (creator stated in a livestream), but with manhwas, it’s hard to really guess and give a concrete percentage. Either way, I’m just happy to read and find out more about the story and the characters in it.

I've been telling people to read this for ages, and yes it is still updating. The latest raw chapter is up on this Korean site: http://urihaponiru.ms.wordpress.com/ — chapter 79, and it's a rather exciting cliffhanger. English translations for chapters like this usually appear within a month or so. I read all the available chapters a couple of months ago. The story is currently ramping up for what looks to be an epic showdown. There are lots of backstories about side characters, lots of explaining about the power systems at work, and the stakes are being raised all over the place.

Wait a bit longer if you only want to read completed series. In the meantime, you can follow the updates, speculate on the upcoming story and even discuss the background art and its symbolism on the new threads that are created with every update. On our server's Discord there is even a channel where we try to decode the background art.

It’s a manhwa that at first seems to be a mainly action-orientated series, but it is really quite deep psychologically. I believe this is an ongoing series and updates regularly. The person who creates this manhwa seems to have a good long-term plan, as the story is well-planned and each story-arc is developed to reach a high point. The character development is also good and is well-paced, not rushing development and not dragging it out for too long.

The pace at which updates appear can be unpredictable (sometimes multiple chapters in one month and none in the following). Manhwa readers however form active communities that discuss every development in the story. I would definitely recommend reading this currently ongoing series, because it will surely be exciting to follow from now on.

It’s ongoing and so far they’re doing a great job of consistently updating the comic on a weekly basis (every Thursday to be specific). I read it on the official platform where it’s updated on a regular basis. Many webtoons (even from big publishers) are notoriously inconsistent in update frequency which can be frustrating as you wonder if they’re still updating the comic or if they’ve abandoned it. Not this comic though!

That kind of consistent updates show that the webtoon creator(s) and their team are well-organized to manage a production pipeline. That they are working ahead of time to complete each episodes is a good sign that they are experienced and serious about their webtoon. So, not only is this webtoon ongoing, but it is most likely to continue updating on a regular basis in the near future.

It’s Ongoing and there is good evidence for the power scaling being continually increased throughout the story. Whilst the hero is no doubt very powerful, he’s not quite reached the absolute threshold of his title and is for the present time still (e.g.) below the top of the food chain. However, new, even more powerful antagonists and increasingly complex “rules” of his power are continually introduced.

If this were an almost completed series, by now the power escalation of the main character would have culminated and we would be seeing the final bosses of the story instead of introducing new and deeper mysteries as is the case with the new factions. The world’s hierarchy is being built out in the narrative. This is a phase that requires hundreds of chapters and right now we’re climbing the ladder and not yet jumping off.

This is a really interesting question. It makes me think about how people consume serialized material nowadays, and how weird it is that we can now watch whole seasons of things before they are even finished. Webcomics are in a sense the complete opposite to that, though. We read them in pieces, and the material is slowly doled out to us on a regular basis (in this case, weekly). We have to wait for new installments, we can talk to other readers about our impressions of what has come before in real time, and so on. It's sort of like waiting for a new TV show every week.

'The Absolute Threshold' is a work in the classic serial tradition, like a periodical rather than a novel. And so rather than treating it as something that could be read from cover to cover as a single work, and wondering whether or not it has been completed, it is better to treat it as a work which is ongoing, with the value in the ongoing engagement of the work with the reader in pieces over long periods of time. So, yes, it is still ongoing. A feature not a bug.

This manhwa is still ongoing but, as a more critical reader, I’m beginning to worry about the pacing. Many long-running manhwa are just dragged out for too long but “The Absolute Threshold” so far has managed to avoid that. However, the central conceit of the manhwa—the ‘threshold’—is being left almost entirely undefined and so it could become a moving goalpost to extend the story indefinitely.

As of now, it hasn't been completed yet (100+ chapters), but the characters and the action sequences are pretty good, so I'm still reading updates. I hope the writer has some kind of endpoint in mind and is working towards it rather than just extending it due to popularity. Right now, it doesn't feel like it's dragging on.

Just finished reading Chapter 97 last night. The ending was harsh to read as it was so unexpected and definitely not the end of the chapter. Reading it is like reading an ongoing story right now as it’s currently right in the middle of a major storyline and it seems to be just setting up for the next part of the plot rather than resolving anything. It seems like so much was revealed in the chapter I just read including a huge piece of new world changing information and tons of questions have been raised that need to be answered.

It’s a manhwa that does great mini-arcs while expanding on the over-all narrative, which is a very planned progression. So while it could end at any time, I expect it to keep running for some time to come in order to resolve the mystery of the ‘threshold’ that has been set up for us. We’re not there yet, though.

Also nice to follow the art evolution on this one. It really went up a notch from the first chapters to the current ones. From good to pure cinema. The artist must really care about this work as this kind of improvement only happens on long-term projects. A 10-chapter series isn’t long enough to improve this much.
